Preferablytakelongertrips.
Avoidfrequentcoldstartswithshort-distancedrivingwheneverpossible.
Avoidfullthrottlestartsandabruptstops.
Donotexceedmaximumenginespeedof4200rpm(revolutionsperminute).
DonotrunacoldengineathighrpmeitherinNeutraloringear.
Donotlettheenginelabor,especiallywhendrivinguphill.Shifttothenextlowergearintime(usethemostfavorablerpmrange).
Neverlugtheengineinhighgearatlowspeeds.Thisruleappliesatalltimes,notjustduringthebreak-inperiod.
Donotparticipateinmotorracingevents,sportsdrivingschools,etc.duringthefirst2000miles/3000kilometers.
Theremaybeaslightstiffnessinthesteering,gear-shiftingorothercontrolsduringthebreak-inperiodwhichwillgraduallydisappear.
Breakinbrakepadsandbrakediscs
Newbrakepadsanddiscshavetobe“brokenin”,andthereforeonlyattainoptimalfrictionwhenthecarhascoveredseveralhundredmilesorkm.Theslightlyreducedbrakingabilitymustbecompensatedforbypressingthebrakepedalharder.Thisalsoapplieswheneverthebrakepadsandbrakediscsarereplaced.
Newtires
Newtiresdonothavemaximumtraction.Theytendtobeslippery.
Breakinnewtiresbydrivingatmoderatespeedsduringthefirst60to120miles/100to200km.Longerbrakingdistancesmustbeanticipated.
Engineoilandfuelconsumption
Duringthebreak-inperiodoilandfuelconsumptionmaybehigherthannormal.

Function
Asportiercarset-upisobtainedwhenSportmodeisswitchedon.InterventionsbythePorschecontrolsystemsareintentionallyshiftedtowardsgreateragilityanddrivingperformance.
–PASM(PorscheActiveSuspensionManagement)isautomaticallychangedtoSportmode,resultinginastiffersuspensionsetup.
–TheTiptronicSswitchestoasportygear-changingmapandshortensthegearshiftingperiods.Gearchangestakeplacefaster.
–PSM(PorscheStabilityManagement)controlissporty.PSMinterventionstakeplacelaterthaninNormalmode.Thedrivercanmaneuverthevehiclewithgreateragilityatitsperformancelimits,withouthavingtodispensewiththeassistanceofPSMinemergencysituations.Thishelpstoachieveoptimallaptimes,particularlyonracecircuitswithadryroadsurface.
–Theelectronicacceleratorpedalreactssooner,andtheengineismoreresponsivetothrottleinputs.WhenSportmodeisswitchedon,thisfunctionisactivatedonlyafterthedriverhasbrieflyreleasedtheacceleratorpedal.
–Therpmlimitercharacteristicis“harder”,i.e.theengineisimmediatelythrottledwhenthe
performancelimitsarereached(onlyinmanualselectionmodeforvehicleswithTiptronicS).
PleaseobservetheappropriatechaptersPSM,PASMandTiptronicS.
SwitchingSportmodeonandoff
PressSPORTbuttoninthecenterconsole.WhenSportmodeisswitchedon,thelight-emittingdiodeintheSPORTbuttonislit.
WhenSportmodeisswitchedon,thelogoSPORTappearsnexttothedigitalspeedometer.
SwitchingSportmodeonandoffsimultaneouslyactivatesanddeactivatestheSportmodeofthePASM.IftheSportmodeofthePASMwasactivatedwiththePASMbutton,itwillremainon.
Aftertheignitionisswitchedoff,SportmodeisautomaticallyresettoNormalmode.

Additionalfunctionsforvehicleswith
four-wheeldrive
–Pre-fillingthebrakesystem:Ifyousuddenlyandquicklytakeyourfootofftheacceleratorpedal,thebrakesystemgetspreparedforpossibleemergencybraking.Thebrakesystemispre-filledwhichlightlypressesthebrakepadsonthebrakediscs.
Brakeboost:Ifemergencybrakingdoesnothavesufficientpedalpressure,thebrakeboostproducesthebrakepressurenecessaryformaximumdecelerationonall4wheels.
ThePSMshouldalwaysbeswitchedon
during“normal”driving.
However,itmaybeadvantageoustoswitchoffPSMtemporarilyinexceptionalsituations,forexample:
–Onaloosesurfaceorindeepsnow,
–When“rockingthevehiclefree”and
–Whenusingsnowchains.
SwitchingoffPSM
PressPSMOFFbutton.PSMisswitchedoffafterashortdelay.Thelight-emittingdiodeinthebuttonisilluminated.WhenthePSMisswitchedoff,themultifunctionalPSMlightontheinstrumentpanelislitandamessageisshownbytheon-boardcomputer.Anacousticsignalalsosounds.
Vehicleswithfour-wheeldrive
WhenPSMisswitchedoff,theadditionalbrakingfunctionsaredeactivated.Theautomaticreactiva-tioninemergencysituationsiscoupledtothePSMcontrolinemergencysituations.
Thefollowingfunctionsstabilizethevehicleinemergencysituations,evenwithPSMswitchedoff:
–WhenPSMisoff,thevehicleisstabilizedassoonasoneofthetwofrontwheelsenterstheABScontrolrange.
–WhenPSMisoffandSportmodeison,thevehicleisstabilizedassoonasbothfrontwheelsentertheABScontrolrange.
One-sidedspinningofthewheelsisprevented,evenwithPSMswitchedoff.
SwitchingPSMbackon
PressPSMOFFbutton.PSMisswitchedonafterashortdelay.Thelight-emittingdiodeinthebuttonandthemultifunctionalPSMlightgoout.Theon-boardcomputershowsamessage.
Sportmode
Asportiercarset-upisobtainedwhenSportmodeisswitchedon.PSMinterventionsarelaterthaninNormalmode;thevehiclecanbemaneuveredwithgreateragilityatitsperformancelimits,withouttheneedtodispensewiththeassistanceofPSMinemergencysituations.Thishelpstoachieveoptimallaptimes,particularlyonracecircuitsandadryroadsurface.

PASMmakestworunning-gearsetupsavailabletothedriver:“Normal”and“Sport”.Theselectionismadeviaabuttononthecenterconsole.
InNormalmodetherunninggearisinasportyandcomfortablesetup.Sportmodeoffersamarkedlysportyshockabsorbertuning(e.g.fordrivingontheracecircuit).
Thevariablesuspensionsystemselectstheappro-priatedampinglevelforeachwheelaccordingtothesituationandconditionsofdriving.
Example:IfthevehicleisdriveninamarkedlysportymannerinNormalmode,PASMautomat-icallyadaptstheshock-absorberbehaviortothedrivingsituationinthiscaseaswell.
SwitchingonPASMSportmode
PressPASMbuttoninthecenterconsole.WhenPASMSportmodeisswitchedon,thelight-emittingdiodeinthebuttonisilluminatedandamessageisshownbytheon-boardcomputer.
