Function
SelectpositionDfor“normal”driving.Thegearsareshiftedautomaticallyaccordingtotheacceleratorpositionandspeed.
Dependingonthewaythevehicleisdrivenandontheresistance(e.g.uphill),thegear-changingpointsareshiftedtowardshigherorlowerengine-speedranges.Theacceleratorposition,drivingspeed,enginespeed,longitudinalandlateralaccelerationandtheroadprofileallhaveaninfluenceonthegear-changingcharacteristic.
Unwantedupwardshifts,e.g.beforebends,arepreventedbyswiftlyreleasingtheacceleratorpedal.
Dependingonlateralacceleration,upwardchangesonbendsarenotmadeuntiltheengine-speedlimitisreached.
Underbraking,anddependingontheamountofdeceleration,theTiptronicchangesdownearlier.Forsubsequentcornering,therightgearisengagedwhenpressureisappliedtothebrakesbeforethebend.Thebendistakenintherightgear,andwhenyouaccelerateoutofthebendyoudonothavetoshiftdown.
Drivingoff
In2ndgear,thevehiclemovesoffwiththethrottleonlyslightlyopen.Moveoffin1stgearwiththethrottleopenwiderorwhentheengineiscold.
Sportmodeswitchedon
Pleaseobservethechapter”SPORTMODE”onpage78.
IftheSportmodeprogramisswitchedon,Tiptronicswitchestoasportygear-changingmapandshortenstheshiftingperiods.Decelerationdownshiftsarecommencedearlier.Downshiftsarealreadycarriedoutinthecaseofslightdecelera-tions,evenathigherenginespeeds.
Shiftinggearsonthesteeringwheel
Withtherockerswitchesonthesteeringwheel,youcanchangetemporarilyfromautomaticselectionmodeDtomanualmodeM.
Example:
–Shiftingdownbeforebendsandonenteringbuilt-upareas.
–Shiftingdownondownwardslopes(enginebraking).
–Shiftingdownforbriefspurtsofacceleration.
–Selecting1stgearforstartingoff.
Manualselectionmoderemainsengaged:
–forcornering(dependingonthelateralacceleration)andoverrunning,
–whenthevehicleisstationary(e.g.atajunction).
Thesystemleavesmanualselectionmode:

Temporarychange-down
Conditions:Speedishigherthanapprox.33mph(54km/h).
Rapidacceleration.TheTiptronictemporarilychangestothesportiestgear-changingmap,i.e.tothehighestpossiblegear-changingpoints.Correspondingly,thetransmissionshiftsdownimmediatelybyoneortwogears.
Endingthefunction:
Releasetheacceleratormarkedly(byapprox.25%).
Kickdown
ThekickdownfunctionisactiveinselectorleverpositionD,evenifyoutemporarilychangetomanualmodeMusingtherockerswitchesonthesteeringwheel.
Foroptimumacceleration,e.g.whenovertak-ing,depresstheacceleratorpedalbeyondthefull-throttlepoint(kickdown).
Thetransmissionshiftsdowndependingonthespeedoftravelandenginespeed.Upwardshiftsoccuratthehighestpossibleenginespeeds.Thesegear-changingspeedsremainactiveuntil
theacceleratorisreleasedtoapprox.80%ofthefull-throttleposition.
M-Manualselectionmode
Function
ThecurrentlyselectedgearisretainedwhenyouchangefromDtoM.
IfyouchangefromMtoD,thegear-changingmapsuitableforyourcurrentdrivingstyleisselectedandtheappropriategearischosen.

Depresstheacceleratorpedalbeyondthefull-throttlepoint(kickdown).
Manualmodefailure
Ifmanualmodefails,thecontrolelectronicsswitchtoautomaticmode.Inthisevent,theinstrumentclusterwilldisplayselectorleverpositionD.
HavethefaultremediedatanauthorizedPorschedealer.
Stopping
Forabriefstop(e.g.atatrafficlight),leavetheselectorleverindrivepositionandholdthevehiclewiththebrakepedal.
Foralongerstopwiththeenginerunning,selectpositionN(neutral)andholdvehicleinpositionwiththefootbrake.SelectleverpositionDonlywhenthefootbrakepedalisdepressed.
Donotholdthecaronaslopeusingtheaccelerator.Usethebrakepedalorthehandbrakeinstead.

Haveyourvehicletunedtospecifications.Aircleanershouldbedirtfreetoallowproperengine“breathing”.Batteryshouldbefullycharged.Wheelsshouldbeproperlyaligned.Tiresshouldbeinflatedtothecorrectpres-sure.
Alwaysmonitoryourfuelconsumption.
Drivesmoothly,avoidabruptchangesinspeedasmuchaspossible.
Avoidjackrabbitstartsandsuddenstops.

IfyoudonotuseaPorscherecommendedreplacementtire,makesurethatyoupur-chaseyournewtiresfromareputabletiredealerandthatthedealercomplieswithallmanufacturerswarningsforthosetires.
Onlytireswiththesamemakeandwiththesamespecicationcode(e.g.“N0”,“N1”...)canbemounted.
Beforemountingnewtires,checkwithyourPorschedealeraboutthecurrentreleasestatus.
Usetireswith“ZR”qualitystandards.Therearecurrentlynostandardsconcerningtirestrengthatspeedsabove150mph(240km/h).
Tiresshouldbereplacednolessthanononeaxleatthetime.Onlytiresofthesamemakeandtypemustbeused.Mixedtiresarenotpermissible.
Initially,newtiresdonothavetheirfulltraction.Youshouldthereforedriveatmoderatespeedsduringthefirst60-120miles(100-200km).
Ifnewtiresareinstalledonlyononeaxle,anoticeablechangeinhandlingoccursduetothedifferenttreaddepthoftheothertires.Thishappensespeciallyifonlyreartiresarereplaced.However,thisconditiondisappearsasthenewtiresarebrokenin.
Pleaseadjustyourdrivingstyleaccordingly.
Installationofnewtiresshouldonlybedonebyaqualifiedtiretechnician.
Valves
Rubbervalvestemsmustbereplacedeverytimeatireisreplaced.Formetalvalves,theinstallationandreplacementinstructionsmustbeobserved.
