Allcurrentengineoilsarecompatiblewitheachother,i.e.whenmakinganoilchangeitisnotnecessarytoflushtheengineifyouwishtouseadifferentbrandorgradeofoil.Since,however,eachbrandofoilhasaspecialcomposition,
youshould,ifpossible,usethesameoilbrandifitbecomesnecessarytotopupbetweenoilchanges.
Porscheengineshavelongintervalsbetweenoilchanges.Youcanmakebestuseoftheselongoilchangeintervalsbyusingmultigradeoilssincethesearelargelyindependentofseasonalfluctuationsintemperature.
Ifyourvehicleisusedfrequentlyinstop-and-gotrafficincoldweather,theenginewillnotalwaysbecompletelywarmedup.Condensationfromproductsofcombustionmayaccumulateintheoil.Inthiscase,itisadvisabletochangetheoilmorefrequentlysothatyourengineonceagainhas100%efficientengineoil.
Engineoilperformanceclass
Engineoilisnotonlyalubricant,butalsoservestokeeptheengineclean,toneutralizethedirtwhichpenetratesintotheenginethroughcombustionandtoprotecttheengineagainstcorrosion.Toperformthesefunctions,theoilisprovidedwithadditiveswhichhavebeenspeciallydevelopedforthesefunctions.Theefficiencyofanoilisexpressed,forexample,bytheAPI,ILSACorACEAclassifications.

Likeallliquids,engineoilisviscouswhencold,andthin-bodiedwhenwarm.TheviscosityofanoilisexpressedbyitsSAEclass.Forcoldviscosity(measuredattemperaturesbelow32°F/0°C)

Haveyourvehicletunedtospecifications.Aircleanershouldbedirtfreetoallowproperengine“breathing”.Batteryshouldbefullycharged.Wheelsshouldbeproperlyaligned.Tiresshouldbeinflatedtothecorrectpres-sure.
Alwaysmonitoryourfuelconsumption.
