Do not pull on the umbrella holder when you
are closing the trunk lid. You could other-
wise injure yourself on the trunk lid.i

Remote door unlock
In case you have locked your vehicle unin-
tentionally (e.g. SmartKey inside vehicle),
and the reserve SmartKey is not handy:
Contact the Mercedes-Benz Response
Center at 1-800-756-9018 (in the USA)
or 1-888-923-8367 (in Canada).
You will be asked to provide your pass-
word which you provided when you
completed the subscriber agreement.

Contact the Tele Aid web page via In-
ternet using the ID and password sent
to you shortly after the completion of
your acquaintance call.

Then return to your vehicle and pull the
trunk lid handle for a minimum of
20 seconds until the SOS button be-
gins to flash.
The message: “Call connecting” ap-
pears in the multifunction display and
the SOS button is flashing.
The Response Center will then unlock
your vehicle with the remote door un-
locking feature.

The indicator lamp in the respective button
flashes until the call is concluded. Calls can only
be terminated by a Response Center or Custom-
er Assistance Center representative except
Roadside Assistance and Information calls,
which can also be terminated by pressing
buttont on the multifunction steering wheel
or COMAND (
page 115).

If the indicator lamp continues to flash or
the system does not terminate the call at all,
contact the Response Center at
1-800-756-9018 (in the USA) or
1-888-923-8367 (in Canada), or Mercedes-Benz
Customer Assistance at 1-800-FOR-MERCedes
(1-800-367-6372) in the USA or Customer Ser-
vice at 1-800-387-0100 in Canada.

When a Tele Aid call has been initiated, the
audio system is muted. The optional mobile
phone (if installed) switches off. If you must use
this phone, the vehicle must be parked. Unplug
the telephone, switch it on and place the call.
The COMAND navigation system (if engaged) will
continue to run. The multifunction display in the
instrument cluster is available for use, but spo-
ken commands are not available.

You can exit Roadside Assistance and/ or
the information display during an active connec-
tion and call up the COMAND application last se-
lected. To do so, select “Back”. Meanwhile,
mute remains active (
page 79).

The remote door unlock feature is available
if the relevant mobile phone network is available
and data connection is possible.
The SOS button will flash and the message: “Call
connecting” appears in the multifunction display
to indicate receipt of the door unlock command.
Once the vehicle is unlocked, a Response Center
specialist might attempt to establish voice con-
tact with the vehicle occupants.
If the trunk lid handle was pulled for more than
20 seconds before door unlock authorization
was received by the Response Center, you must
wait 15 minutes before pulling the trunk lid han-
dle again.

Always fasten items being carried as secure-
ly as possible.
In an accident, during hard braking or sud-
den maneuvers, loose items will be thrown
around inside the vehicle, and cause injury
to vehicle occupants unless the items are
securely fastened in the vehicle.
The trunk is the preferred place to carry ob-
jects.

Please do not forget that your primary re-
sponsibility is to drive the vehicle safely.
Only operate the COMAND (Cockpit Man-
agement and Data System), radio, or tele-
phone
1 if road, weather and traffic
conditions permit.
Bear in mind that at a speed of just 30 mph
(approximately 50 km/h), your vehicle is
covering a distance of 44 feet (approximate-
ly 14 m) every second.

The first aid kit is located in the storage
compartment under the front passenger
seat.

The vehicle jack, Minispare wheel, the ve-
hicle tools, and the luggage bowl are
stored in the compartment underneath the
trunk floor.
Lift up trunk floor cover and engage
trunk floor handle in upper edge of
trunk.
You can now remove the tools and ac-
cessories.The vehicle tool kit includes:

der the front passenger seat closed while the ve-
hicle is in motion.

completeness at least once a year and replace

If you are unable to unlock the vehicle with
the SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO*, open the
driver’s door and the trunk using the me-
chanical key. Removing the mechanical key

Insert mechanical key2 into the driv-
er’s door lock until it stops.

Turn mechanical key2 counterclock-
wise to position1.
The driver’s door is unlocked.

Pull door handle quickly.
The locking knob moves up.

Turn back mechanical key2 and re-
move.

Pull door handle again.

Unlocking the driver’s door and/or the trunk
with the mechanical key will trigger the anti-theft
alarm system (
page 75).
To cancel the alarm, insert the SmartKey or
SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO* in the starter
switch.

Unlocking/locking in an emergency
Unlocking the trunk
A minimum height clearance of 5.9 ft.
(1.80 m) is required to open the trunk lid.
1Trunk lid lock
Insert the mechanical key into the
trunk lid lock1 until it stops.

Turn mechanical key all the way to the
left.
The trunk opens.

Turn the mechanical key back and re-
move it from the trunk lid lock.
Locking the vehicle
If you cannot lock the vehicle with the
SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO*, do the follow-
ing:
Close the front passenger door, the
rear right door and the trunk.

Open the driver’s door and the rear left
door.

Press the central locking switch on the
driver’s door (
page 314).
The locking knobs of the front passen-
ger door and the rear doors move
down.
If the vehicle battery is disconnected or
drained:

Press down the locking knobs of
the front passenger door and the
rear doors manually.

Exit the vehicle.

Close the driver’s door.

Enter the vehicle through the rear left
door.

Press down the locking knob of the
driver’s door.

Exit the vehicle.

Close the rear left door.
The vehicle is locked.

The trunk lid swings open upwards automat-
ically. Always make sure that there is sufficient
overhead clearance.
!
To prevent inadvertent lockout, make sure
to have the SmartKey or SmartKey with KEY-
LESS-GO* with you before proceeding with the
next step. The next step will lock the vehicle.
