The air recirculation mode is activated auto-
matically at high outside temperatures.
The indicator lamp on button, is not lit when
the air recirculation mode is automatically
switched on.
A quantity of outside air is added after approxi-
mately 30 minutes.
If you have turned off the air conditioning
(
page 217) or the outside temperature is be-
low 41°F (5°C), the air recirculation mode will
not switch on automatically.

The air recirculation mode is deactivated au-
tomatically:
after 5 minutes if the outside temperature is
below approximately 41°F (5°C)
after 5 minutes if the air conditioning is
turned off
after 30 minutes if the outside temperature
is above approximately 41°F (5°C)

Never operate the windows and tilt/sliding
sunroof or tilt/sliding panel* if there is the
possibility of anyone being harmed by the
opening or closing procedure.
In the event that the procedure causes po-
tential danger, the closing of the windows
can be immediately halted by pressing or
pulling the respective window switch. The
closing of the tilt/sliding sunroof can be im-
mediately halted by moving the switch for
the tilt/sliding sunroof in any direction.

Convenience closing

will close. You can release button,
once the closing procedure has begun.
The windows and tilt/sliding sunroof
continue closing until they are fully
closed. The indicator lamp on the but-
ton comes on. The air recirculation
mode is activated.Convenience opening
Press button, for approximately
2 seconds.
The windows and tilt/sliding sunroof
will return to their previous position.
You can release button , once the
opening procedure has begun. The win-
dows and tilt/sliding sunroof continue
opening until they have reached their
previous position. The indicator lamp
on the button goes out. The air recircu-
lation mode is deactivated.
Vehicles with panorama roof*:
When using the air recirculation mode with
convenience closing feature, should the up-
ward movement of a window be blocked by
some obstruction including but not limited
to arms, hands, fingers, etc., the automatic
reversal feature will not operate.
In the event that the procedure causes po-
tential danger, the closing of the windows
and tilt/sliding panel can be immediately
halted by releasing the, button.
The closing of the windows and the tilt/slid-
ing sunroof can be reversed by again press-
ing and holding the, button.

A window or tilt/sliding sunroof will only re-
turn to its previous position if it has not been
moved to another position using the respective
window switch or tilt/sliding sunroof switch af-
ter it was closed with button,.
A window or tilt/sliding sunroof that has been
moved will remain in its current position if
button, is used to reopen the remaining
windows or tilt/sliding sunroof.

est possible cooling of the vehicle interior

Power windows
Synchronizing power windows
The power windows must be synchronized
after the battery has been disconnect-
ed
if the power windows cannot be fully
opened (Express-open) or closed
(Express-close)
Synchronizing
Close all doors.
Switch on the ignition (
page 37).
Pull switch1 to 4 until the windows
are completely closed.
Hold on to switches1 to 4 for ap-
proximately 1 second.
The power windows are synchronized.
Summer opening feature
If the weather is warm, you can ventilate
the vehicle before driving off by simulta-
neously:
opening the windows
opening the tilt/sliding sunroof or
tilt/sliding panel*
turning on the seat ventilation* for the
driver’s seat
Aim transmitter eye of the SmartKey or
SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO* at the
driver’s outside door handle. The
SmartKey or SmartKey with
KEYLESS-GO* must be in close proxim-
ity to the driver’s outside door handle.
Vehicles without panorama roof*
Press and hold button
Œ
until the
windows and the tilt/sliding sunroof
have reached the desired position.
Release button Œ to interrupt pro-
cedure.

The seat ventilation* for the driver’s seat is
automatically set to the highest level if activated
via summer opening feature.

If roller sunblinds are closed:
Press and hold button

windows and the roller sunblinds begin
to open after approximately 1 second.
With the windows and roller sunblinds
fully opened, press and hold
buttonŒ again. The tilt/sliding pan-
el of the panorama roof tilts and opens.
Release button Œ to interrupt pro-
cedure.
If roller sunblinds are open:
Press and hold button Œ. The win-
dows move down and the tilt/sliding
panel tilts and opens after approxi-
mately 1 second.
Release button Œ to interrupt pro-
cedure.
Convenience closing feature
When you lock the vehicle, you can close
the windows, tilt/sliding sunroof or
tilt/sliding panel* simultaneously.
Aim transmitter eye of the SmartKey or
SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO* at the
driver’s outside door handle
(page 239). The SmartKey or
SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO* must be
in close proximity to the driver’s out-
side door handle.
Press and hold button ‹ until the
windows, the tilt/sliding sunroof or
tilt/sliding panel* are completely
closed.
Vehicles with panorama roof*:
Press and hold button ‹ again. The
roller sunblinds close.
Release button ‹ to interrupt pro-
cedure.Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO*:
Press and hold the lock button on an
outside door handle (
page 65) until
the windows, the tilt/sliding sunroof or
tilt/sliding panel* are completely
closed.
Release the lock button on the outside
door handle to interrupt procedure.

Power windows
Warning!

When closing the windows and the tilt/slid-
ing sunroof or tilt/sliding panel*, make sure
that there is no danger of anyone being
harmed by the closing procedure.
If potential danger exists, proceed as fol-
lows:
Release button ‹ to stop the closing
procedure. To open, press and hold
buttonŒ. To continue the closing
procedure after making sure that there
is no danger of anyone being harmed by
the closing procedure, press and hold
button‹.
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO*:
Release the lock button (
page 65) on
the outside door handle to stop the clos-
ing procedure.
Immediately pull on the same outside
door handle and hold firmly. The win-
dows and the tilt/sliding sunroof or
tilt/sliding panel* will open for as long
as the door handle is held but the door
not opened.

The tilt/sliding sunroof is opened and
closed electrically. The switch for the
tilt/sliding sunroof is on the overhead con-

4Pull down to lower sunroof at rearWith the sunroof closed or tilted open, a
screen can be slid into the sunroof opening
to guard against sun rays. When sliding the
sunroof open, the screen will also retract.

When closing the tilt/sliding sunroof, make
sure there is no danger of anyone being
harmed by the closing procedure.
The opening/closing procedure of the
tilt/sliding sunroof can be immediately halt-
ed by releasing the switch or, if the switch
was moved past the resistance point and re-
leased, by moving the switch in any direc-
tion.
The tilt/sliding sunroof is made out of glass.
In the event of an accident, the glass may
shatter. This may result in an opening in the
roof.
In a vehicle rollover, occupants not wearing
their seat belts or not wearing them properly
may be thrown out of the opening. Such an
opening also presents a potential for injury
for occupants wearing their seat belts prop-
erly as entire body parts or portions of them
may protrude from the passenger compart-
ment.
