Do not modify, remove or disable the engine immobilizer system. If any unautho-
rized changes or modifications are made, the proper operation of the system can-
not be guaranteed.

When driving
■If the engine does not start
The engine immobilizer system may not have been deactivated. (P. 5 4 )
■When the engine switch indicator flashes in amber
The system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus
dealer immediately.
■Auto power OFF function
The engine switch will automatically turn OFF when left in ACC mode for 1 hour or
more.
■Electronic key battery depletion

CAUTION
■When starting the engine
Always start the engine while sitting in the driver’s seat. Do not press the accelera-
tor while starting the engine under any circumstances.
Doing so may cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
■Caution when driving
Do not touch the engine switch while driving.
Pressing and holding the engine switch will stop the engine, which may lead to an
unexpected accident.

5-2. Steps to take in an emergency
If the engine will not start
If the engine will not start, even though correct starting procedures are
being followed (
P. 98), consider each of the following points.
■The engine will not start even when the starter motor operates
normally.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
●There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle.
●The engine may be flooded.
Try to restart the engine once more following correct starting
procedures. (P. 9 8 )
●There may be a malfunction in the engine immobilizer system.
(P. 54)
■The starter motor turns over slowly, the interior lights and head-
lights are dim, or the horn does not sound or sounds at a low vol-
ume.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
●The battery may be discharged. (P. 3 7 2 )
●The battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
■The starter motor does not turn over, the interior lights and head-
lights do not turn on, or the horn does not sound.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
●One or both of the battery terminals may be disconnected.
●The battery may be discharged. (P. 3 7 2 )
●There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system.
Contact your Lexus dealer if the problem cannot be repaired, or if
repair procedures are unknown.
