Before driving

In the event that the trunk lid is left slightly open (not latched properly), the trunk
easy closer will automatically close it to the fully closed position.
■Tr u n k l i g h t
When the trunk light switch is set to ON, the trunk light turns on when the trunk is
opened.

■Using the mechanical key
The trunk can be also opened using the mechanical key. ( P. 4 74 )

Use the trunk handle when closing the trunk.
The trunk lid can be opened by pulling down
on the glow-in-the-dark lever located on the
inside of trunk lid.
The lever will continue to glow for some time
after the trunk lid is closed.

■Operating the moon roof after turning the power switch “OFF”
The moon roof can be operated for ap proximately 45 seconds even after the
power switch is switched to “ACC” mode or turned “OFF”. It cannot, however, be
operated once the driv er’s door is opened.
■Jam protection function
If an object is detected between the moon roof and the frame while closing or tilting
down, travel is stopped and the moon roof opens slightly.
■If the moon roof cannot be closed automatically
Keep the switch depressed.
■To reduce moon roof wind noise
Drive with the moon roof opened automati cally ( just before fully opened position).
■Sunshade
The sunshade can be opened and closed manually. However, the sunshade will
open automatically when the moon roof is opened.
■Customization
Settings (e.g. linked door lock operation) can be changed. ( P. 5 1 2 )

Hybrid vehicle immobilizer system
■System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type of hybrid vehicle immobilizer system.
■Conditions that may cause the system to malfunction
●If the grip portion of the key is in contact with a metallic object.
●If the key is in close proximity to or touching a key to the security system (key
with a built-in transponder chip) of another vehicle.
■Certifications for the hybrid vehicle immobilizer system For vehicles sold in the U.S.A.

Driving the vehicle
Starting on a steep inclineFirmly set the parking brake and shift the shift lever to “D”.
Gently depress the accelerator pedal.
Release the parking brake.
The following procedures should be observed to ensure safe driving.

■ Driving
With the brake pedal depressed, shift the shift lever to “D”. 

Release the parking brake. ( P. 111)
Gradually release the brake peda l and gently push the accel-
erator pedal to accelerate the vehicle.
■ Stopping
With the shift lever in “D”, push the brake pedal.
If necessary, set the parking brake.
When the vehicle is stopped for an extended period of time, shift the
shift lever to “P”. (

■Parking the vehicle
With the shift lever in “D”, push the brake pedal.
Set the parking brake. ( P. 111)

Stop the hybrid system.
Lock the door, making sure that you have the electronic key on

When driving
Starting the hybrid system
Modes can be switched by pressing the power switch when carrying the
electronic key on your person. (The hybrid system can be started in any
mode by operating the switch at the same time as depressing the brake
pedal.)

After a few seconds, the
“READY” light will flash and
come on with a beep sound.
The vehicle can move when the
“READY” light is on, even if the
engine is stopped.

■If the hybrid system does not start
The hybrid vehicle immobilizer system may not have been deactivated. (P. 5 9 )
■When the power switch indicator flashes in amber
The system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus
dealer immediately.
■If the “READY” light does not come on
If the “READY” light does not come on when you press the power switch with the
shift lever in “P” and the brake pedal pressed, contact your Lexus dealer immedi-
ately.
■Auto power OFF function
If the vehicle is left in the “ACC” mode for more than an hour with the shift lever in
“P”, the power switch will automatically turn “OFF”.
■When the ambient temperature is low
Such as during winter driving conditions, it may take time until the “READY” light
comes on.
■Sounds and vibrations specific to a hybrid vehicle

■Leak detection pump
Several hours after the hybrid system is turned off, you may hear a sound coming
from underneath the luggage compartment for several minutes. This is normal
operation and does not indicate a malfunction.

■Automatic light off system
The headlights and tail lights turn off 30 seconds after all doors are closed if the
power switch has been switched to “ACC” or turned “OFF” while the headlights are
turned on. (The lights turn off immediat ely if the button on the key is pressed
after all doors are locked.)
To turn the lights on again, switch to “IG-ON” mode, or turn the light switch “OFF”
once and then back to the or position.
■Automatic headlight leveling system
The level of the headlights is automatica lly adjusted according to the number of
passengers and the loading condition of the vehicle to ensure that the headlights do
not interfere with other road users.
■If the indicator flashes...
It may indicate a malfunction in the system. Contact your Lexus dealer.
■Customization
Settings (e.g. light sensor sensitivity) can be changed. ( P. 5 1 0 )
NOTICE
■To prevent 12 volt battery discharge
Do not leave the lights on longer than necessary when the hybrid system is off.
