4-2. Maintenance
■Allow inspection and repairs to be performed by a Lexus dealer
●Lexus technicians are well-trained speciali sts and are kept up to date with the
latest service information. They are well informed about the operations of all
systems on your vehicle.
●Keep a copy of the repair order. It proves that the maintenance that has been
performed is under warranty coverage. If any problem should arise while your
vehicle is under warranty, your Lexus de aler will promptly take care of it.
CAUTION
■Warning in handling of battery
●Engine exhaust, some of its constituents, and a wide variety of automobile com-
ponents contain or emit chemicals known to the State of California to cause can-
cer and birth defects and other reproductive harm. Work in a well ventilated area.
●Oils, fuels and fluids contained in vehicles as well as waste produced by compo-
nent wear contain or emit chemicals known to the State of California to cause
cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Avoid exposure and wash
any affected area immediately.
●Battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead com-
pounds which are known to cause brain damage. Wash your hands after han-
dling. (P. 3 8 6 )
●Used engine oil contains chemicals that have been shown to cause cancer in lab-
oratory animals. Avoid prolonged and repeated contact. Always protect your
skin by washing thorough ly with soap and water.

Maintenance and care
■Engine oil consumption
●The amount of engine oil consumed depends on the oil viscosity, the quality of
the oil and the way the vehicle is driven.
●More oil is consumed under driving conditions such as high speeds and fre -
quent acceleration and deceleration.
●A new engine consumes more oil.
●When judging the amount of oil consumpt ion, keep in mind that the oil may
have become diluted, making it difficult to judge the true level accurately.
●Oil consumption: Max. 1.1 qt./600 miles, 0.9 lmp.qt./600 miles (1.0 L per 1000
km). If the vehicle consumes more than this amount, contact your Lexus dealer.
■Resetting the engine oil main tenance data (U.S.A. only)
Perform the following steps:
Press the “DISP” switch ( P. 114 ) to change the multi-information display
to blank.
Turn the engine swit ch to “
OFF” mode.
Turn the engine switch to “IG-ON” mode with the trip meter reset button
held down.
Keep pressing the button for longer than 7 seconds af
ter the engine
switch is in “IG-ON” mode.

Washer fluid
If any washer does not work or the
warning message appears on the
multi-information display, the
washer tank may be empty. Add
washer fluid.
NOTICE
■When recharging the battery
Never recharge the battery while the engine is running. Also, be sure all accesso-
ries are turned off.
NOTICE
■Do not use any fluid other than washer fluid
Do not use soapy water or engine antifreeze instead of washer fluid.
Doing so may cause streaking on the vehicle’s painted surfaces.
■Diluting washer fluid
Dilute washer fluid with water as necessary.
Refer to the freezing temperatures listed on the washer fluid tank.

Tires
Replace or rotate tires in accordance with maintenance schedules and
treadwear.
■Checking tires
New tread
Treadwear indicator
Worn tread
The location of treadwear indi-
cators is shown by the “TWI” or

marks, etc., molded on the
sidewall of each tire.
Check spare tire condition and
inflati
on pressure if not rotated.
■Tire rotation
Rotate the tires in the order
sho
wn.
To equalize tire wear and extend
tire life, Lexus recommends that
tire rotation is carried out at the
same interval as tire inspection.
■The tire pressure warning system
Your Lexus is equipped with a tire pr
essure warning system that uses
tire pressure warning valves and transmitters to detect low tire infla -
tion pressure before serious problems arise. ( P. 4 5 2 , 456 )

Installing tire pressure warning valves and transmitters
When replacing tires or wheels, tire pressure warning valves and trans-
mitters must also be installed.
When new tire pressure warning valv
es and transmitters are installed,
new tire pressure warning valve and transmitter ID codes must be regis-
tered in the tire pressure warning computer and tir
e pressure warning
system must be initialized. Have tire pressure warning valve and transmit -
ter ID code registered by your Lexus dealer. ( P. 394 )
Initializing the tire pressure warning system
■The tire pressure warning system must be initialized in the following
circumstances:
● When changing the tir
e inflation pressure by changing traveling
speed or load weight, etc.
● When changing the tir
e size.
When the tire pressure warning sys tem is initializ
ed, the current tire
inflation pressure is set as the pressure benchmark.

■How to initialize the tire pressure warning system
Park the vehicle in safe place and turn the engine s
witch to “OFF”
mode.
While the vehicle is moving, initialization is not performed.
Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified cold tire inflation
pressure level. ( P. 505 )
Make sure to adjust the tire pressure to the specified cold tire inflation
pressure level. The tire pressure warning system will operate based on
this pressure level.
Turn the engine switch to “IG-ON” mode.
Push and hold the tire pressure
w
arning reset switch until the tire
pressure warning light blinks
slowly three times and the mes -
sage “PRESSURE INITIAL”
appears on the multi-information
display
.
Wait for a few minutes with the “IG-ON” mode, and then turn
engine switch to the “OFF” mode.

Registering and selecting ID codes
■Registering ID codes
2 sets of tire pressure warning va lv
e and transmitter ID codes can be
registered. Once a second set of ti res is registered at “2nd”, you can
switch between tire set settings simply by pressing the tire pressure
warning select switch.
There are 2 settings:
“MAIN” position: The ID code of the tir
e pressure warning valve and
transmitter on the tires originally installed on the vehicle is registered.
“2nd” position: The ID code is not r
egistered. When you replace a new
set of tires, purchase tire pressu re warning valves and transmitters
from your Lexus dealer and have the new ID code registered by your
Lexus dealer.
■ Selecting ID codes
When replacing tires, make sure to select the ID code set that matches
the ne
w tire set. If the tire pressu re warning select switch is set to
wrong tire setting, the tire pressu re warning system will not operate
properly. After about 20 minutes, the tire pressure warning light
comes on after blinking for 1 minu te to indicate a system malfunction.
