Distance to empty
This mode indicates the estimated distance to empty from the current
fuel in the fuel tank. When the
remaining distance is below 50 km
(30 miles), a “----” symbol will be dis-
played.
Trip computer recognizes only the amount of fuel consumed to the
engine. Therefore if the vehicle hap-
pens to abnormal oil leakage, the trip
computer fails to sense causing the
amount of fuel more than it really is.

Warning lights / audible indi-
cators
Checking operation
All warning lights are checked by
turning the ignition switch ON (do not
start the engine). Any light that does
not illuminate should be checked by
an Authorized Kia Dealer.
After starting the engine, check to
make sure that all warning lights are
off. If any are still on, this indicates a
situation that needs attention. When
releasing the parking brake, the
brake system warning light should go
off. The fuel warning light will stay on
if the fuel level is low.Anti-lock brake sys- tem (ABS) warninglight (if equipped)
This light illuminates if the key is
turned to ON and goes off in approx-imately 3 seconds if the system is
operating normally.
If the light stays on, you may have a
problem with your ABS system.
Contact an authorized Kia dealer as
soon as possible.
Electronic brake force
distribution (EBD)system warning light (if equipped)
If two warning lights illumi- nate at the same time
while driving, your vehicle
has a problem with ABSand EBD system. In this case, your ABS system and
regular brake system may not work
normally. Have the vehicle checked
by an Authorized Kia Dealer as soon
as possible.

not work normally. So you may
experience an unexpected and
dangerous situation during sud-
den braking. In this case, avoidhigh speed driving and abrupt
braking. Have your vehicle
checked by Authorized Kia
Dealer as soon as possible.

This warning light indicates the fuel
tank is nearly empty. The warning
light will come on when the fuel level
has dropped to about 8.5 liters.
Refuel as soon as possible. Door ajar warning
This warning light illuminates when a door is not closed securely with the
ignition in any position.Headlight high beam indicator This indicator illuminates when the headlights are on and in the high

fog lights are ON.
Low washer fluid level warning indicator
This warning light indicates the
washer fluid reservoir is near empty.
Refill the washer fluid as soon as
possible.Malfunction indicator (if equipped)
This indicator light is part of the Engine Control System which moni-
tors various emission control system
components. If this light illuminates
while driving, it indicates that a
potential problem has been detected
somewhere in the emission controlsystem. This light will also illuminate when
the ignition switch is turned to the
ON position, and will go out in a few
seconds after the engine is started. If
it illuminates while driving, or doesnot illuminate when the ignition
switch is turned to the ON position,
take your vehicle to your nearest
authorized KIA dealer and have the
system checked.
Generally, your vehicle will continue
to be drivable and will not need tow-

Passenger’s front air
bag OFF indicator (if equipped)
The passenger’s front air bag OFF
indicator illuminates for about 4 sec-
onds after the ignition switch is
turned to the ON position.
The passenger’s front air bag OFF indicator also comes on when the
passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF
switch is set to OFF position and
turns off when the passenger’s front
air bag ON/OFF switch is set to ONposition.CAUTION
Prolonged driving with the
Emission Control SystemMalfunction Indicator Light ( ) illuminated may causedamage to the emission con-trol systems which could effect drivability and/or fueleconomy.
If the EmissionControl System
Malfunction Indicator Light ( ) begins to flash ON andOFF, potential catalytic con- verter damage is possiblewhich could result in loss ofengine power. Have the Engine Control System inspected assoon as possible by an author-ized Kia Dealer.
CAUTION
If there is a malfunction of the
passenger’s front air bagON/OFF switch, the passenger’sfront air bag OFF indicator will not illuminate and the passen-ger’s front air bag will inflate infrontal impact crashes even if the passenger’s front air bagON/OFF switch is set to OFFposition.
If this occurs, have an author-ized KIA dealer inspect the pas- senger’s front air bag ON/OFFswitch and the SRS air bag sys-tem as soon as possible.

FUEL REQUIREMENTS
Gasoline engine (unleaded)
Your new Kia vehicle is designed to
use only unleaded fuel having an
Octane Rating of RON (ResearchOctane Number) 91 / AKI (Anti-
Knock Index) 87 or higher.
Your new Kia is designed to obtain
maximum performance with
UNLEADED FUEL, as well as mini-
mize exhaust emissions and spark
plug fouling.
✽✽ NOTICE
NEVER USE LEADED FUEL. The use of leaded fuel is detrimental to
the catalytic converter and will
damage the engine control system’s
oxygen sensor and affect emission
control.
Never add any fuel system cleaning
agents to the fuel tank other thanwhat Kia has specified. (Consult an
Authorized Kia Dealer for details.)
Gasoline Engine (Leaded)
In countries using LEADED FUEL,
your new Kia vehicle must use
LEADED FUEL. Your new Kia Vehicleis designed to correspond to LEAD-
ED FUEL specifically. Please check
your vehicle whether your vehiclecan use LEADED FUEL or not. Gasoline containing alcohol and methanol Gasohol, a mixture of gasoline and
ethanol (also known as grain alco-hol), and gasoline or gasohol con-
taining methanol (also known as
wood alcohol) are being marketedalong with or instead of leaded or
unleaded gasoline. Do not use gasohol containing more than 10% ethanol, and do not use
gasoline or gasohol containing any
methanol. Either of these fuels may
cause drivability problems and dam-age to the fuel system.
Discontinue using gasohol of any
kind if drivability problems occur.

Driving tips
Vehicle damage or driveability prob-
lems may not be covered by the
manufacturer’s warranty if they resultfrom the use of:
1. Gasohol containing more than10% ethanol.
2. Gasoline or gasohol containing methanol.
3. Leaded fuel or leaded gasohol.
✽✽ NOTICE
Never use gasohol which contains methanol. Discontinue use of any
gasohol product which impairs dri-
vability.
The emission control system of your
vehicle is covered by a written limited
warranty. Please see the warranty
information contained in the
Warranty & Maintenance book in
your vehicle.
Vehicle modifications
This vehicle should not be modified.
Modification of your Kia could affect
its performance, safety or durability
and may even violate governmental
safety and emissions regulations.
In addition, damage or performance
problems resulting from any modifi-
cation may not be covered under
warranty. Engine exhaust gas precau-
tions (carbon monoxide)
Carbon monoxide can be present
with other exhaust fumes.
Therefore, if you smell exhaust
fumes of any kind inside your vehi-
cle, have it inspected and repaired
immediately by an authorized Kia
dealer. If you ever suspect exhaust
fumes are coming into your vehi-
cle, drive it only with all the win-
dows fully open. Have your vehicle
checked and repaired immediately.
1 23456789WARNING
Engine exhaust gases contain
carbon monoxide (CO). Though
colorless and odorless, it is
dangerous and could be lethal if
inhaled. Follow the instructions
following to avoid CO poison-ing.
