AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID
The automatic transaxle fluid level should be checked and changed at those intervals prescribed in the main- tenance schedule. It is of paramountimportance that only the specified fluid is used when replenishing or changing the fluid. The use of other fluids mayirreparably damage the transaxle and invalidate the manufacturers warranty. In addition the ingress of dirt or lintmay prevent correct functioning of the transaxle and care must be exercised to prevent the ingress of such matter. NOTE: Automatic transaxle fluid is a red in color. As driving distance increases, the fluid color turns darkish red gradually. It is a normal conditionand you should not judge the need to replace based upon the changing color. You must replace the automatictransaxle fluid in accordance withintervals specified in the vehicle maintenance schedule in section 5. CAUTION:
The transaxle on fluid level must be
checked with the engine running and at normal operating tempera-ture and therefore care must be ex- ercised to prevent injury occurring through contact with rotating or hotparts of the engine.
! G110B04A-AAT Recommended Fluid Your Hyundai automatic transaxle is specially designed to operate with HYUNDAI GENUINE ATF SP III, DIA- MOND ATF SP-III, SK ATF SP III orother brands approved by Hundai Mo- tor Co,. Damage caused by a nonspecified fluid is not covered byyour new vehicle limited warranty.
CAUTION:
Use of aftermarket ATF additives may cause damage to the automatic transaxle. Only use HYUNDAI GENU-INE ATF SP III, DIAMOND ATF SP III, SK ATF SP III or other brands approved by Hyundai Motor Co., Ifyou are having your vehicle ser- viced at a facility other than a Hyundai authorised repairer, verifythat the correct ATF is used for your vehicle.

Checking the automatic transaxle fluid level
The automatic transaxle fluid level
should be checked regularly.
Keep the vehicle on the level ground
with the parking brake applied and check the fluid level according to thefollowing procedure. HFC5008
G110C01FC-EAT
Fluid Capacity
The total fluid capacity of the trans-mission unit is 6.1 litres (1.6 DOHC)/ 6.7 litres(1.8 DOHC).
! CAUTION:
The transaxle fluid level should be checked when the engine is at nor-mal operating temperature. This means that the engine, radia- tor, exhaust system etc., are very hot so you should exercise great care not to burn yourself during thisprocedure. 1. Place the selector lever in N (Neu-
tral) position and confirm the engineis running at normal idle speed.
2. After the transaxle is warmed up
sufficiently (fluid temperature70~80°C (158~176°F)), for example by 10 minutes usual driving, shift the selector lever through all posi-tions then place the selector lever in N (Neutral) or P (Park) position.

3. Confirm that the fluid level is in
“HOT” range on the level gauge. If the fluid level is lower, add the specified fluid from the fill hole. If the fluid level is higher, drain thefluid from the drain hole.
4. If the fluid level is checked in cold condition (fluid temperature 20~30°C (68~86°F)) add the fluid to “COLD” line and then recheck the fluid levelaccording to the above step 2. WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by engine coolant temperature and may sometimes operate even when theengine is not running. Use extreme caution when working near the blades of the cooling fan so thatyou are not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolant tem- perature decreases, the fan will au-tomatically shut off. This is a nor- mal condition.
!
Fluid level should be within this range
C090A03FCWARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system with engine running or within 30 sec- onds after shutting off engine. Highpressure pump, rail, injectors and high pressure pipes are subject to high pressure even after the enginestopped. The fuel jet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it contacts the body. People using pacemakers should ensure that they keep a distance of 30cm from the ECU or wiring har-ness within the engine room whilst engine is running, since the high currents in the Common Rail sys-tem produce considerable magnetic fields.

Brake Fluid Level
HFC5005
Petrol engine
G120D02FC
Diesel engine
The fluid level in the brake fluid reser-
voir should be checked periodically. The level should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the side of thereservoir. If the level is at or below the "MIN" mark, fluid should be added having carefully cleaned the area sur-rounding the reservoir cap to ensure that dirt is not allowed to enter the system. It should be noted that thebrake fluid level will decrease slightly as the friction linings of the pads and shoes become worn and that this is anormal condition.

!WARNING:
Brake fluid is hygroscopic and should never be stored in an un- sealed container. The presence ofwater in the braking system will cause vapour locks and increase the possibility of brake fade alongwith promoting corrosion within the braking system. The brake fluid must be changed at the specifiedtime or mileage interval to ensure continued safe operation of the sys- tem. Brake fluid will cause rapidand serious damage to paintwork. If accidental spillage occurs, the af- fected area must be rinsed withwater immediately. Do not allow brake fluid to come into contact with the eyes or to be ingested andensure that fluid is safely stored away form the reach of children.
CHECKING THE CLUTCH FLUID
The system should be checked for leakage at the same time.Ensure that the clutch fluid level is
always between the "MAX" and "MIN"level markings on the fluid reservoir.Fill as required. Fluid loss indicates a leak in the clutch system which should be inspected and repaired immediately.

Checking the Refrigerant
1. Start the engine and run at idle for
several minutes with the refrigera- tion system running at the coldest setting.
2. If the air coming out of the in-dash
vents is not cold, have the air con-ditioning system inspected by your Hyundai authorised repairer.
CAUTION:
Running the air conditioning sys- tem with a low refrigerant level maydamage the compressor.
! SG140D1-E
Off Season Maintenance
The air conditioning must be run for
ten minutes or so weekly during peri- ods when the system would not nor- mally be used to ensure that the com-pressor and seals are lubricated. If this precaution is not observed the compressor seals may become stuckto the compressor shaft and damaged when the system is next used result- ing in a loss of refrigerant and damageto the compressor.
!
SG130B2-E
Adding Fluid
Recommended brake fluid conforming
to DOT 3 or DOT 4 should be used. The reservoir cap must be fully tight- ened to avoid contamination from for-eign matter or moisture.
CAUTION:
Brake fluid is hygroscopic and
should never be stored in an un- sealed container. Do not allow pe- troleum base fluid to contaminatethe brake fluid since damage to the rubber seals of the system may re- sult.
!
WARNING:
Brake fluid will cause rapid and serious damage to paintwork. If ac- cidental spillage occurs, the affected area must be rinsed with water im-mediately. Do not allow brake fluid to come into contact with the eyes or to be ingested and ensure thatfluid is safely stored away form the reach of children.
