6VEHICLE MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
14
G080N01P-GAT
o Brake Hoses and Lines
Visually check for proper installation,
chafing, cracks, deterioration and any leakage. Replace any deteriorated or damaged parts immediately.
G080O01P-GAT
o Brake Fluid
Check brake fluid level in the brake
fluid reservoir. The level should be between "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the side of the reservoir. Use onlyhydraulic brake fluid conforming SAE J1703.
G080P01P-GAT
o Rear Brake Drums and
Linings
Check for scoring, burning, leaking
fluid, broken parts, and excessive wear. G080Q01P-GAT
o Brake Pads, Calipers and
Rotors
Check the pads for excessive wear, discs for run out and wear, and cali- pers for fluid leakage. G080R01P-GAT
o Parking Brake
Inspect the parking brake system such as parking brake lever, cables, and so on. For detailed service procedures, refer to the Shop Manual.
G080S01P-GAT
o Exhaust Pipe Connections,
Muffler and Suspension Bolts
Check the exhaust pipe, muffler, and
suspension connections for loosenessor damage.
G080L01P-GAT
o Manual Transmission Oil Check manual transmission oil ac- cording to the maintenance schedule. NOTE: If the oil level is low, check for possible leaks before adding oil. Do not overfill. G080M04P-GAT
o Automatic Transmission Fluid The fluid level should be in the "HOT" range of the dipstick, after engine and transmission are at normal operatingtemperature. Check the Automatic Transmission Fluid level with the en- gine running and the transmission inneutral, with the parking brake properly applied. Use MOBIL DEXRON-II, DIA- MOND ATF SP-I or JWS 3309 whenadding or changing fluid.

7CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL
If you notice anything that does not
operate correctly or appear to be func- tioning correctly, inspect it carefully and seek assistance from your Hyundai dealer if service is needed.
Adequate care of your vehicle at regu-
lar intervals serves to preserve thevalue and appearance as long aspossible.
Some maintenance items can be car-
ried out by the owner (Consumer Information), while other should be done only by an authorized dealer(Periodic Inspection and Mainte- nance). This section describes only those items which can be carried outby the owner. In the event a malfunc- tion or other problem is discovered, have it corrected by an authorizedHYUNDAI dealer. This section con- tains information on inspection main- tenance procedures that you can doyourself, if you so desire. Follow the instructions and cautions for each of the various procedures. When checking or servicing the insideof the engine compartment, be surethe engine is stopped and has had a chance to cool down. If it is necessary to do work in the engine compartmentwith the engine running, be especially careful that your clothing, hair, etc., becomes not caught by the fan, V-belts, or other moving parts.

Select engine oil of the proper SAE viscosity number according to the at-mospheric temperature.Recommended viscosity is given inthe following illustration. The engine oil quality should meet the following API classification: 2.6 N/A : CF-4 or ABOVE 2.5 4D56 : CF-4 or ABOVE 2.5 CRDi : CF-4 or ABOVE The engine oil quality should meet the following ACEA classification: 2.6 N/A : B2 or B3 2.5 4D56 : B2 or B3 2.5 CRDi : B4 NOTE: For diesel-powered vehicle SAE 0W-30 oil should be used only inareas where extremely cold tem- peratures of 10°C (50°F) or below are experienced. For diesel-poweredvehicle, if the atmospheric tempera- tures are 0°C (32°F) or below, SAE 30 oil must not be used.
G030A02O-GAT
Recommended Oil Gasoline Engine
G030B01JMEngine oil is essential to the perfor-
mance and service of the engine. It is suggested that you check the oil level at least once a week in normal use and more often if you are on a trip ordriving in severe conditions.
The engine oil quality should meet the
following classification.
API SJ, SL or ABOVE, ILSAC GF-3 or ABOVE NOTE:
o For good fuel economy, SAE 5W- 20 (5W-30), ILSAC GF-3 engine oil is preferred regardless of regional option and engine variation.
o If SAE 5W-20, ILSAC GF-3 engine oil is not available, secondaryrecommended engine oil for cor- responding temperature range can be used.
This oil should be used only inareas where the atmospheric tem-peratures are 0°C(32°F) or above.

longer meets the minimum require- ment for use. When these wear indi-cators appear, the tires must be re- placed with new one. Confirm that the wheel nuts are tightened sufficiently.Refer to the section of this manual entitled "In case of emergency" for information concerning care of thetires.
!WARNING:
o Driving on worn-out tires is dan- gerous! Worn-out tires can cause loss of braking effectiveness, steering control and traction. When replacing tires, never mixradial and bias-ply tires on the same car. If you replace radial tires with bias-ply tires, they mustbe installed in sets of four.
o Your vehicle is equipped with
tires designed to provide for saferide and handling capability.Do not use a size and type of tireand wheel that is different from the one that is originally installed on your vehicle. I160A03P-GAT Tire inflation pressure

Check the tire inflation pressure of all the tires while they are cold; if insuf- ficient or excessive, adjust to the specified value. After the tire inflationpressure has been adjusted, check the tires for damage and air leaks. Be sure to put rubber caps on the valves.

It can affect the safety and perfor- mance of your vehicle, whichcould lead to handling failure or rollover and serious injury. When replacing the tires, be sure to equip all four tires with the tire and wheel of the same size, type, tread, brand and load-carrying ca- pacity. If you nevertheless decide to equip your vehicle with anytire/wheel combination not rec- ommended by Hyundai for off- road driving, you should not usethese tires for highway driving.
o Tires degrade over time, even
when they are not being used.Regardless of the remaining tread, it is recommended that tires tread, It is recommended that tires gen-erally be replaced after six (6) years of normal service. Heat caused by not climates or fre-quent high loading conditions can
accelerate the aging process. Fail- ure to follow this Warning canresult in sudden tire failure, which could lead to a loss of control and an accident involving seri-ous injury or death.

Tires tend to wear unevenly over a long period of service. To make surethat the tires wear evenly as possible and for longer tire life, rotate the wheels in the sequence illustrated. Take the vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer to have the chance of the wheels properly adjusted.
CAUTION:
If the front wheels are of a different type from the rear and spare wheels, do not attempt to mountthe wheel for front onto rear. In this instance, use the type 2 wheel rotation method.
