time, you should slow the vehicle and bring it to a complete stop in a safe location off the roadway. The brake fluid level warning light indi-cates that the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder is low and hy- draulic brake fluid conforming to DOT3 or DOT 4 specifications should be added. After adding fluid, if no other trouble is found, the car should beimmediately and carefully driven to a Hyundai dealer for inspection. If fur- ther trouble is experienced, the vehicleshould not be driven at all but taken to a dealer by a professional towing ser- vice or some other safe method. Your Hyundai is equipped with dual- diagonal braking systems. This meansyou still have braking on two wheels even if one of the dual systems should fail. With only one of the dual systemsworking, more than normal pedal travel and greater pedal pressure are re- quired to stop the car. Also, the car willnot stop in as short a distance with only half of the brake system working. If the brakes fail while you are driving, shiftto a lower gear for additional engine braking and stop the car as soon as it is safe to do so.

The system automatically turns off the small light when the driver re-moves the ignition key and opens the driver- side door.
o With this feature, the parklight will be
turned off automatically if the driverparks on the side of road at night.
If necessary, to keep the lights on whenthe ignition key is removed, perform the following :
1) Open the driver-side door.
2) Turn the parklights OFF and ON again using the light switch on the steering column.
B340F01A-GAT Daytime Running Lights (If Installed) Your Hyundai is equipped with daytime running lights. The daytime running lightsare used to improve visibility for oncom- ing traffic. Your vehicle daytime running lights are designed to remain on continu-ously when the engine is operating even though the headlight switch is in the "OFF" position. However, the daytimerunning lights will be off while the parking brake is applied. B340D01A-AAT High-beam Switch To turn on the headlight high beams, push the lever forward (away fromyou). The high beam indicator light will come on at the same time. For low beams, pull the lever back toward you. If failure of one of the circuits occurs, the required amount of pedal effort, pedal travel and stopping distance will be increased. Use of the gearbox is recommended to assist in bringing thevehicle to rest. The vehicle must not be driven once brake failure has occurred until the system has been repaired andis functioning normally. The braking system employs a vacuum servo in order that the pedal efforts arereduced. Power for the servo is derived from the engine and therefore, in the event of the engine stopping or thevehicle being towed, pedal efforts will be substantially increased.
Warning light operation The parking brake/brake fluid level warn- ing light will be illuminated wheneverthe ignition switch is turned to the "ON" or "START" position when the parking brake is applied and must be extin-guished in a three seconds after the engine starts. If the warning light fails to extinguish orilluminates at any other time, the ve- hicle must be brought to rest in a safe location and the level of brake fluid inthe reservoir checked. If the fluid level is incorrect, fluid conforming
to DOT 3
or DOT 4 specifications should be added. If, after correcting the brake fluid level, the warning light continues to be illumi-
nated, the advice of the nearest Hyundai authorised repairer must be sought be-
fore the vehicle is driven again. The Hyundai Coupe is equipped with adiagonally split dual braking system which will ensure that in the event of one of the brake circuits becomingdefective, approximately fifty per cent of the normal braking performance will be available.

B340C05FC-EAT LIGHTING SWITCH The vehicle sidelights and headlights are operated by rotating the end of the turn signal switch barrel. To operate theside lights, rotating the switch to the first detent with ignition switch at the "OFF" position will cause the lights toilluminate. To operate the headlights, the turn signal switch barrel should be rotated to the second detent. The head-lights will only operate when the ignition switch is at the "ON" position. If the ignition switch is turned to the "OFF"position, only the side lights will func- tion.

YC200C4-E Trailer Brakes If your trailer is equipped with a braking system, make sure it conforms to localregulations and that it is properly in- stalled and operating correctly. NOTE: If you tow a trailer or vehicle, your car will require more frequent main- tenance due to the additional load.See Maintenance Under Severe Us- age Conditions" on page 5-7.
YC200B2-E Trailer Towbars Select the proper towbar and ball com- bination, making sure that its location is compatible with that of the trailer or vehicle being towed.Use a quality non-equalizing towbar which distributes the nose weight uni- formly throughout the chassis. The towbar should be bolted securely to the car and installed by a qualifiedtechnician.
CAUTION:
o Never connect a trailer brake sys- tem directly to the vehicle brakesystem.
o When towing a trailer on steep grades (in excess of 6%) pay closeattention to the engine coolanttemperature gauge to ensure the engine does not overheat. If the needle of the coolant temperaturegauge moves across the dial to- wards "H" (HOT), pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so,and allow the engine to idle until it cools down. You may proceed once the engine has cooled suffi-ciently.

trailer must not exceed the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)shown on the vehicle identifica- tion plate (see page 8-2). YC200D2-E Safety Cables Should the towbar connection between your car and the trailer or vehicle youare towing fail, the trailer or vehicle could wander dangerously across other lanes of traffic and ultimately leave theroadway. To eliminate this potentially dangerous situation, safety cable, at- tached between your car and the traileror towed vehicle, are required.
Nose weight Total trailer weight
C190E01GK-EAT Trailer Weight Limit Nose weights can be increased or de- creased by re-distributing the load in the trailer. This can be verified by checking the total weight of the loaded trailer and then checking the nose weight. NOTE:
1. Never load the trailer with more
weight in the back than in the front. About 60% of the trailerload should be in the front half on the trailer and the remaining 40% in the rear.
