Raise the vehicle far enough off the ground
so there is enough room for the spare
tire to clear the ground.
Rear Tire Flat:If the at tire is on a rear tire
of the vehicle, you will need to use the
jack handle (B) and both jack handle
extensions (C). Attach the wheel wrench (D)
to the jack handle extensions (C). Attach
the jack handle (B) to the jack (A).Use the jacking pad provided on the rear axle.
Turn the wheel wrench (D) clockwise to
raise the vehicle. Raise the vehicle far enough
off the ground so there is enough room for
the spare tire to clear the ground.
4. Remove all of the
wheel nuts.
5. Take off the at tire.

Secondary Latch System
Your vehicle has an underbody-mounted tire hoist
assembly which has a secondary latch system.
It is designed to stop the spare tire from suddenly
falling off your vehicle. For the secondary latch
to work, the spare tire must be installed with
the valve stem pointing down. SeeStoring a Flat
or Spare Tire and Tools on page 522.
{CAUTION:
Before beginning this procedure read all
the instructions. Failure to read and follow
the instructions could damage the hoist
assembly and you and others could get
hurt. Read and follow the instructions
listed next.To release the spare tire from the secondary latch,
do the following:
1. Check under the
vehicle to see if
the cable end
is visible. If the cable
is not visible,
proceed to Step 6.
2. If it is visible, rst try to tighten the cable by
turning the wheel wrench clockwise until
you hear two clicks or feel it skip twice.
You cannot overtighten the cable.
3. Loosen the cable by turning the wheel wrench
counterclockwise three or four turns.

{CAUTION:
Someone standing too close during the
procedure could be injured by the jack.
If the spare tire does not slide off the jack
completely, make sure no one is behind
you or on either side of you as you pull
the jack out from under the spare.
13. Disconnect the jack handle from the jack and
carefully remove the jack with the other hand.
14. Use one hand to push against the spare while
rmly pulling the jack out from under the
spare tire with the other hand. If the spare tire
is hanging from the cable, insert the hoist
end of the extension, and wheel wrench into
the hoist shaft hole in the bumper and
turn the wheel wrench counterclockwise to
lower the spare tire the rest of the way.15. Tilt the tire retainer
at the end of the
cable and pull
it through the wheel
opening. Pull the
tire out from
under the vehicle.
16. Turn the wheel wrench in the hoist shaft hole
in the bumper clockwise to raise the cable
back up if the cable is hanging under
the vehicle.
Have the hoist assembly inspected as soon as
you can. You will not be able to store a spare or
at tire using the hoist assembly until it has
been replaced.

Storing a Flat or Spare Tire and
Tools
{CAUTION:
Storing a jack, a tire, or other equipment
in the passenger compartment of the
vehicle could cause injury. In a sudden
stop or collision, loose equipment could
strike someone. Store all these in the
proper place.
Notice:Storing an aluminum wheel with a
at tire under your vehicle for an extended
period of time or with the valve stem pointing
up may damage the wheel. Always stow
the wheel with the valve stem pointing down
and have the wheel/tire repaired as soon
as possible.Store the tire under the rear of the vehicle in the
spare tire carrier. Refer to the following graphics
and instructions to help you:

1. Put the tire (H) on the ground at the rear of
the vehicle with the valve stem pointed down
and to the rear.
2. Tilt the tire
retainer (G)
downward and
through the wheel
opening. Make
sure the retainer is
fully seated
across the underside
of the wheel.3. Assemble the two jack handle extensions (D)
and wheel wrench (E) as shown.

Spare Tire
Your vehicle, when new, had a fully-inated
spare tire. A spare tire may lose air over time,
so check its ination pressure regularly. See
Ination - Tire Pressure on page 488andLoading
Your Vehicle on page 392for information
regarding proper tire ination and loading your
vehicle. For instruction on how to remove, install,
or store a spare tire, seeRemoving the Flat
Tire and Installing the Spare Tire on page 512
andStoring a Flat or Spare Tire and Tools
on page 522.
After installing the spare tire on your vehicle, you
should stop as soon as possible and make
sure the spare is correctly inated. Have the
damaged or at road tire repaired or replaced as
soon as you can and installed back onto your
vehicle. This way, a spare tire will be available
in case you need it again.
Your vehicle may have a different size spare tire
than the road tires, those originally installed on your
vehicle. This spare tire was developed for use on
your vehicle, so it is all right to drive on it.
Appearance Care
Cleaning the Inside of Your Vehicle
Your vehicle’s interior will continue to look its
best if it is cleaned often. Although not always
visible, dust and dirt can accumulate on your
upholstery. Dirt can damage carpet, fabric, leather,
and plastic surfaces. Regular vacuuming is
recommended to remove particles from your
upholstery. It is important to keep your upholstery
from becoming and remaining heavily soiled.
Soils should be removed as quickly as possible.
Your vehicle’s interior may experience extremes
of heat that could cause stains to set rapidly.
Lighter colored interiors may require more frequent
cleaning. Use care because newspapers and
garments that transfer color to your home
furnishings may also transfer color to your
vehicle’s interior.
When cleaning your vehicle’s interior, only use
cleaners specically designed for the surfaces
being cleaned. Permanent damage may result from
using cleaners on surfaces for which they were not
intended. Use glass cleaner only on glass.

At Each Fuel Fill
It is important to perform these underhood checks
at each fuel ll.
Engine Oil Level Check
Check the engine oil level and add the proper
oil if necessary. SeeEngine Oil on page 432for
further details.
Notice:It is important to check your oil
regularly and keep it at the proper level. Failure
to keep your engine oil at the proper level
can cause damage to your engine not covered
by your warranty.
Engine Coolant Level Check
Check the engine coolant level and add
DEX-COOL®coolant mixture if necessary. See
Engine Coolant on page 445for further details.
Windshield Washer Fluid Level Check
Check the windshield washer uid level in
the windshield washer uid reservoir and add the
proper uid if necessary.
At Least Once a Month
Tire Ination Check
Visually inspect your vehicle’s tires and make sure
they are inated to the correct pressures. Do
not forget to check the spare tire. SeeTires on
page 480for further details. Check to make
sure the spare tire is stored securely. See
Changing a Flat Tire on page 506.
Tire Wear Inspection
Tire rotation may be required for high mileage
highway drivers prior to the Engine Oil Life System
service notication. Check the tires for wear
and, if necessary, rotate the tires. SeeTire
Inspection and Rotation on page 496.

The following services are provided in the U.S.
during the Bumper-to-Bumper warranty period and,
in Canada, during the Base Warranty coverage
period of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, up to
a maximum coverage of $100.
Fuel Delivery:Delivery of enough fuel for the
customer to get to the nearest service station
(approximately $5 in the U.S. and 10 litres
in Canada). Service to provide diesel may
be restricted. For safety reasons, propane and
other alternative fuels will not be provided
through this service.
Lock-out Service:To ensure security, the
driver must present the vehicle registration and
personal ID before lock-out service is provided.
Lock-out service will be covered at no charge if
you are unable to gain entry into your vehicle.
If your vehicle will not start, Roadside
Assistance will arrange to have your vehicle
towed to the nearest authorized dealership.
In the U.S., replacement keys made at the
customer’s expense will be covered within
10 miles (16 km).
Emergency Tow From a Public Roadway or
Highway:Tow to the nearest dealership
for warranty service or in the event of a
vehicle-disabling accident. Winch-out
assistance when the vehicle is mired in sand,
mud, or snow.
Flat Tire Change:Installation of your spare tire
in good condition will be covered at no charge.
The customer is responsible for the repair or
replacement of the tire if not covered by a
warrantable failure.
Jump Start:No-start occurrences which
require a battery jump start will be covered at
no charge.
Dealer Locator Service:Information on the
dealer nearest your location.
Trip Routing:Your Roadside Assistance
Representative can provide you with specic
