If there is a fault
If an anomaly affecting the automatic system is
detected the words “AIR-COND FAULTY” will be
displayed.
The automatic system will continue to work for as
long as possible. If the fault involves the fan control (C) and the fan still
works, it will automatically operate at 1st speed.
If the fault involves an air temperature sensor, the
required air temperature control (A) will work as a
manual air temperature mixing control.

CONTAINING RUNNING COSTS
Here are some suggestions which may help you to
keep the running costs of your car down and lower
the amount of toxic emissions released into the
atmosphere.
GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
Car maintenance
Have checks and adjustments carried out in
accordance with the “Service schedule”.
Tyres
Check the pressure of the tyres routinely at an
interval of no more than 4 weeks: if the pressure is
too low, consumption levels increase as resistance to
rolling is higher.
Unnecessary loads
Do not travel with too much luggage stowed in the
boot. The weight of the car (especially when driving in
town) and its trim greatly affects consumption and
stability.Roof rack/ski rack
Remove the roof rack or the ski rack from the roof as
soon as they are no longer used. These accessories
lower air penetration and adversely affect
consumption levels. When needing to carry
particularly voluminous objects, preferably use a
trailer.
Electric devices
Use electric devices only for the amount of time
needed. Rear heated window, additional headlights,
windscreen wipers and heater fan need a considerable
amount of energy, therefore increasing the
requirement of current increases fuel consumption (up
to +25% in the urban cycle).
Climate control
The air conditioner is an additional load which greatly
affects the engine leading to higher consumption (on
average up to +20%). When the temperature outside
the vehicle permits it, use the air vents where possible.
Aerodynamic accessories
The use of non-certified aerodynamic items may
adversely affect air drag and consumption levels.

Warning Messagelight on panel on display
FIAT CODE (amber)
The warning light will come on in three cases (with the key at MAR):
1. One flash - the key code has been recognised.
The engine can be started.
2. Fixed light together with the message on the display - the key code has not been recognised. Fol-
low the emergency procedure to start the engine (see “In an emergency”).
3. Flashing - indicates that the car is not protected.
The engine can however be started.
POSSIBLE ICE ON ROAD
In versions with climate control system, this message will appear on the display along with the sym-
bol
√and the buzzer will sound when the outside temperature either reaches or is under 3°C to
inform you that the road could be icy.
FUEL CUT-OFF SWITCH (INERTIAL SWITCH)
The message will appear on the display when the switch trips.
INERT.SW ACTIVE is the only message which cannot be cleared by pressing a button. This mes-
sage will stay on the display until resetting the switch.
¢
If, after the message appears, you can smell petrol or see that the fuel feed system
is leaking, to avoid the risk of fire, do not reset the switch.WARNING

BODYWORK
PROTECTION FROM ATMOSPHERIC
AGENTS
The main causes of corrosion are:
❒atmospheric pollution;
❒salty air and humidity (coastal areas, or hot humid
climates);
❒seasonal environment conditions.
In addition, the abrasiveness of dust in the atmosphere
and sand carried by the wind as well as mud and
stones kicked up by other cars must not be
underestimated.
On your Fiat Multipla, Fiat implemented the best
manufacturing technologies to effectively protect the
bodywork against corrosion.These include:
❒painting products and systems which give the car
particular resistance to corrosion and abrasion;
❒use of galvanised (or pre-treated) steel sheets, with
high resistance to corrosion;
❒spraying the underbody, engine compartment,
wheelhouse internal parts and other parts with
highly protective wax products;
❒spraying of plastic parts, with a protective function,
in the most exposed points: underdoor, inner
fender parts, edges, etc.
❒use of “open” boxed sections to prevent
condensation and pockets of moisture from
triggering rust inside.
BODY AND UNDERBODY
WARRANTY
Your Fiat Multipla is covered by warranty against
perforation due to rust of any original element of the
structure or body.
For the general terms of this warranty, refer to Fiat
Warranty Booklet.

Lubricants
for diesel
engines
For diesel engines, in the event of emergencies when genuine products are not available, lubricants providing at least ACEA B4 per-
formance are allowed; in that case, engine best performance is not guaranteed; we recommend to have it replaced as soon as pos-
sible with the recommended lubricants by the Fiat Dealership.
Use of products with low-quality properties than ACEA A3 and ACEA B4 could cause damages to the engine that are not covered
by the warranty.
For very cold climate conditions, ask Fiat Dealership for the appropriate Seleniaproduct to use. Synthetic-based engine oils grade SAE 5W-40
that pass ACEA B4, API CF.
