FRONT AIRBAG ON
PASSENGER’S SIDE
(where provided) fig. 15
It consists of an instant-inflating bag con-
tained into a special recess in the dash-
board: this bag has a bigger volume than
that of the driver.
Do not arrange child seats fa-
cing backwards if the passen-
ger’s front airbag is on. De-
ployment of the airbag in the
event of an accident could
cause fatal injuries to the baby. Always
deactivate the passenger’s airbag
when placing a child seat on the front
seat. Move the passenger’s seat as far
back as possible to avoid contact
between the child seat and the dash-
board. Although this is not mandatory
by law, the airbag should be imme-
diately reactivated when children are
no longer carried to ensure better pro-
tection to adults.
WARNING
MANUAL DEACTIVATION
OF FRONT AIRBAG ON
PASSENGER’S SIDE AND SIDE
BAG FOR BREAST/PELVIS
PROTECTION (where provided)
Whenever a child needs to be carried on
the front seat, the passenger’s front airbag
and the Side Bag for breast and pelvis pro-
tection (where provided) must be deac-
tivated.
The warning light
“on the instrument pa-
nel stays on steady until reactivating the
passenger’s front airbag and the Side Bag
(where provided).
IMPORTANT To deactivate the passen-
ger’s front airbag and the Side Bag (whe-
re provided), refer to paragraphs “Digital
display” and “Multifunctional display” in
section “Dashboard and controls”.

SAFETY
If the vehicle is scrapped, have the airbag
system deactivated at a Fiat Dealership fir-
st. If the vehicle is sold to a new owner, the
new owner must be informed on how the
airbags work along with the above war-
nings, and also be given this “Owner Hand-
book”.
Pretensioners, front airbags and front si-
de bags are deployed differently according
to the type of collision. Non-deployment
of one of these devices does not therefo-
re indicate a system fault.
If the warning light ¬does
not turn on or if it stays on
when travelling (together with the
message on the multifunctional di-
splay, where provided) when turning
the key to MAR, there could be a fai-
lure in the restraint systems. If this is
the case, the airbags or pretensioners
do not trigger in the event of an im-
pact or, in a minor number of cases,
they may trigger accidentally. Do not
drive the vehicle and contact a Fiat
Dealership to have the system imme-
diately checked.
WARNING
The expiry dates of the py-
rotechnic charge and spiral
contact are shown in the plate in-
stalled inside the oddment compart-
ment. When these dates are near, go
to the Fiat Dealership for replace-
ment of these components.
WARNING
Do not travel holding objects
on your lap, opposite the
breast, holding a pipe, pencil, etc. in
your lips. Airbag deployment after a
collision could cause serious dama-
ge/injury.
WARNING
GENERAL WARNINGS
The front airbags and/or side bags (whe-
re provided) are deployed also if the vehi-
cle is subject to strong collisions involving
the underbody area, such as violent shocks
against steps, kerbs or low obstacles, fal-
ling of the vehicle in big holes or sags in
the road.
A small amount of dust will be released
when the airbags are deployed. The dust
is not harmful and does not indicate the
beginning of a fire. Furthermore, the sur-
face of the deployed bag and the interior
of the vehicle may be covered with resi-
dual dust. This dust may irritate the skin
and the eyes. Wash with mild soap and wa-
ter in the event of exposure.
Should an accident occur in which any of
the safety devices is activated, take the
vehicle to a Fiat Dealership to have the de-
ployed devices replaced and to have the
system integrity checked.
All checking, repair and replacement ope-
rations concerning the airbags must only
be carried out c/o Fiat Dealership.

SAFETY
When the ignition key is tur-
ned to MAR, the warning li-
ght
¬turns on (front airbag on pas-
senger’s side enabled) and blinks for
a few seconds to remind that the pas-
senger airbag will activate in the
event of a collision. Then it turns off.
WARNING
The front airbags deploy in
the event of more severe col-
lisions than those required for de-
ploying the pretensioners. When the
shock is within the two deployment
thresholds, it is normal that preten-
sioners only are engaged.
WARNING
The airbag does not replace
seat belts, but increases their
efficiency. Furthermore, since front
airbags are not deployed after low
speed collisions, side collisions, rear-
end shunts or roll-overs, the vehicle
occupants are only protected by the
seat belts, which must be fastened at
all times.
WARNING
When the ignition key is in
and turned in the MAR posi-
tion and the engine is off, the airbags
may deploy if the vehicle is crashed by
another moving vehicle. For this rea-
son, children must never sit on the
front seat, even if the vehicle is not
moving. We remind you that if the key
is inserted and turned in the STOP po-
sition, no safety device (airbag or pre-
tensioner) activates following a colli-
sion. Non-deployment in such cases
must not be considered as the sign of
a malfunction.
WARNING
If the vehicle is stolen or an
attempt is made to steal it, if
it is subject to criminal attacks or
flooding, have the airbag system
checked by the Fiat Dealership.

WARNING
LIGHTS AND
MESSAGES
AIRBAG FAILURE (red)
When the ignition key is
moved to MAR, the warning
light turns on and should go off after a few
seconds.
The warning light stays on glowing steadi-
ly if there is a failure in the airbag system.
On certain versions the dedicated mes-
sage is displayed.FRONT PASSENGER
AIRBAG/SIDE BAGS
DISABLED
(amber)
The warning light “comes on when the
front passenger’s airbag and the side bags
(where provided) are disabled. With front
passenger’s airbag on, turning the ignition
key to MAR, the warning light “comes
on steadily for about 4 seconds, it flashes
for other 4 seconds and then it goes off.
¬“
If the warning light ¬does
not turn on or stays on dur-
ing vehicle travel when turning the
key to MAR, a failure may be present
in the restraint systems. If this is the
case, the airbags or pretensioners
may not be deployed after an impact
or, in a minor number of cases, they
may be deployed accidentally. Con-
tact the Fiat Dealership immediate-
ly to have the system checked imme-
diately.
WARNING
The failure of the warning
light ¬is indicated by the
warning light flashing longer than the
expected 4 seconds “, thus signalling
that the front passenger airbag is de-
activated. In addition, the airbag sys-
tem automatically disables the airbag
on the passenger’s side (both front
and side airbags, where provided). In
this case, warning light ¬may not
indicate a fault in the system. Con-
tact the Fiat Dealership immediate-
ly to have the system checked before
driving off.
WARNING
When the warning light “comes on, it indicates that
the light ¬has failed. In addition, the
airbag system automatically disables
the airbag on the passenger’s side
(both front and side airbags, where
provided). Contact the Fiat Dealer-
ship immediately to have the system
checked before driving off.
