One key is used for the ignition and all of the locks.
Key code information can be obtained by your
dealer. These code numbers can be used to make
new keys. Additional keys that are needed can
be made at any retail service facility provided you
have the key code information. Store this
information in a safe place, but not in your vehicle.
Have extra keys made. Your service parts
department can make extra keys for you.
Notice:If you ever lock your keys in your
vehicle, you may have to damage the vehicle
to get in. Be sure you have spare keys.Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)

The remote keyless entry system operates on a
radio frequency subject to Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) Rules and with Industry
Canada.

Changes or modications to this system by other
than an authorized service facility could void
authorization to use this equipment.
At times you may notice a decrease in range. This
is normal for any remote keyless entry system.
If the transmitter does not work or if you have to
stand closer to your vehicle for the transmitter
to work, try this:
Check the distance. You may be too far from
your vehicle. You may need to stand closer
during rainy or snowy weather.
Check the location. Other vehicles or objects
may be blocking the signal. Take a few steps
to the left or right, hold the transmitter
higher, and try again.
Check to determine if battery replacement or
resynchronization is necessary. See “Battery
Replacement” and “Resynchronization”

If you are still having trouble, see your dealer
or a qualied technician for service.
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
System Operation
The vehicle’s doors can be locked and unlocked
from about 3 feet (1 m) up to 65 feet (20 m)
away with the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
transmitter.
If your vehicle has the remote start feature you can
also start your vehicle with the RKE transmitter.
Your RKE transmitter, with the remote start button,
provides an increased range of 195 feet (60 m)
away. However, the range may be less while the
vehicle is running. As a result, you may need to
be closer to your vehicle to turn it off than you were
to turn it on.
There are other conditions which can affect the
performance of the transmitter. SeeRemote

The following functions may be available if your
vehicle has the RKE system:
/(Remote Vehicle Start):If your vehicle has
this feature, it may be started from outside the
vehicle using the RKE transmitter. See “Remote
Vehicle Start” following, for more detailed
information.
Q(Lock):Press the lock button to lock the
doors and liftgate. If enabled through the Driver
Information Center (DIC), the parking lamps
will ash once to indicate locking has occurred.
If enabled through the DIC, the horn will chirp
when the lock button is pressed again within
ve seconds of the previous press of the lock
button. SeeDIC Vehicle Personalization on
page 207for additional information. Pressing the
lock button may arm the content theft-deterrent
system. SeeContent Theft-Deterrent on page 111.
K(Unlock): Press the unlock button to unlock
the driver’s door. If the button is pressed
again within ve seconds, all remaining doors,
and the liftgate, will unlock. The interior lamps
will come on and stay on for 20 seconds or until
the ignition is turned on. If enabled through
the DIC, the parking lamps will ash once to
indicate unlocking has occurred. SeeDIC Vehicle

unlock button on the RKE transmitter will disarm

Power Door Locks
The power door lock
switches are located on
the driver’s and front
passenger’s doors.
K(Unlock):To unlock the doors, press the
unlock symbol.
Q(Lock):Remove the ignition key and press
the lock symbol to lock all of the doors.
Delayed Locking
A chime will sound three times to indicate a door
or liftgate is open when you try to lock the
doors with the remote keyless entry (RKE)
transmitter or the power door lock switch. The
doors will not lock, and the theft-deterrent system
will not arm until all the doors are closed and
ten seconds have passed.
The delayed locking feature can be programmed
through the Driver Information Center (DIC).

Your vehicle has an automatic lock/unlock feature
which enables you to program the power door
locks through the Driver Information Center (DIC).

Rear Door Security Locks
Your vehicle has rear door security locks that
prevent passengers from opening the rear doors
from the inside.
The rear door security
locks are located on
the inside edge of
each rear door. You
must open the rear
doors to access them.
To set the security locks, do the following:
1. Insert the key into the lock above the rear
door security lock label and turn it to the
horizontal position.
2. Close the door.
3. Repeat the steps for the other rear door.To open a rear door while the security lock is on,
do the following:
1. Unlock the door using the remote keyless
entry transmitter, the front door power lock
switch, or by lifting the rear door manual lock.
2. Open the door from the outside.
To cancel the rear door security lock, do the
following:
1. Unlock the door and open it from the outside.
2. Insert the key into the slot next to the rear
door security lock label and turn it to the
vertical position.
3. Repeat the steps for the other lock.
Lockout Protection
If you press the power door lock switch when the
key is in the ignition and any door is open, all
the doors will lock and only the driver’s door will
unlock. Be sure to remove the key from the ignition
when locking your vehicle.
If the keyless entry transmitter is used to lock the
doors and the key is in the ignition, a chime
will sound three times. All passenger doors will
lock, but the driver’s door will remain unlocked.

Liftgate
{CAUTION:
It can be dangerous to drive with the
liftgate or liftglass open because carbon
monoxide (CO) gas can come into your
vehicle. You cannot see or smell CO. It can
cause unconsciousness and even death.
If you must drive with the liftgate open or if
electrical wiring or other cable connections
must pass through the seal between the
body and the liftgate or liftglass:
Make sure all other windows are shut.
Turn the fan on your climate control
system to its highest speed and select
the control setting that will force
outside air into your vehicle. See
“Climate Control System” in the Index.

If you have air outlets on or under the
instrument panel, open them all the

To unlock the liftgate, press the unlock button on
the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter
twice or use the power door lock switch.
To lock the liftgate, press the lock button on the
RKE transmitter or use the power door lock switch.
The liftgate does not have a key lock cylinder.
To open the liftgate, pull up on the handle located
in the center of the liftgate.
When closing the liftgate, use the molded handles
to pull the liftgate down. Push the liftgate closed
until it latches.

Theft-Deterrent Systems
Vehicle theft is big business, especially in some
cities. Although your vehicle has a number of
theft-deterrent features, we know that nothing we
put on it can make it impossible to steal.
Content Theft-Deterrent
To activate the theft-deterrent system:
1. Open the door.
2. Lock the door with the power door lock switch
or the remote keyless entry transmitter. If you
are using the remote keyless entry transmitter,
the door does not need to be open.
3. Close all doors.
Once armed, the alarm will go off if someone
tries to enter the vehicle without using the remote
keyless entry transmitter or a key or turns the
ignition on with an incorrect key. The horn
will sound and the turn signal lamps will ash
for approximately two minutes.When the alarm is armed, the trunk may be
opened with the remote keyless entry transmitter.
The power door lock switches are disabled
and the doors remain locked. You must use your
remote keyless entry transmitter or your key to
unlock the doors when the system is armed.
Arming with the Power Lock Switch
The alarm system will arm when you use either
power lock switch to lock the doors while any door
or the trunk is open and the key is removed
from the ignition.
Arming with the Remote Keyless
Entry Transmitter
The alarm system will arm when you use your
remote keyless entry transmitter to lock the doors,
if the key is not in the ignition.
