While refueling, let the cap hang by the tether
below the fuel ll opening.
{CAUTION:
Fuel can spray out on you if you open the
fuel cap too quickly. If you spill fuel and
then something ignites it, you could be
badly burned. This spray can happen if
your tank is nearly full, and is more likely
in hot weather. Open the fuel cap slowly
and wait for any hiss noise to stop.
Then unscrew the cap all the way.
Be careful not to spill fuel. Do not top off or over ll
the tank and wait a few seconds after you have
nished pumping before removing the nozzle.
Clean fuel from painted surfaces as soon as
possible. SeeWashing Your Vehicle on page 411.
When replacing the fuel cap, turn it clockwise
until it clicks. Make sure the cap is fully installed.
The diagnostic system can determine if the fuel caphas been left off or improperly installed. This would
allow fuel to evaporate into the atmosphere. See
Malfunction Indicator Lamp on page 200.
The CHECK GAS CAP message will be displayed
on the Driver Information Center (DIC) if the fuel
cap is not properly installed. SeeDIC Warnings and
Messages on page 214for more information.

If a re starts while you are refueling,
do not remove the nozzle. Shut off the
ow of fuel by shutting off the pump
or by notifying the station attendant.
Leave the area immediately.
Notice:If you need a new fuel cap, be sure
to get the right type. Your dealer/retailer can
get one for you. If you get the wrong type,
it may not t properly. This may cause your
malfunction indicator lamp to light and may
damage your fuel tank and emissions system.

Filling a Portable Fuel Container

Never ll a portable fuel container while
it is in your vehicle. Static electricity
discharge from the container can ignite
the gasoline vapor. You can be badly

Checking Engine Oil (Except Z06)
If the CHECK OIL LEVEL message on the Driver
Information Center (DIC) comes on, check the
engine oil level right away. For more information,
seeDriver Information Center (DIC) on page 207.
You should check the engine oil level regularly;
this is an added reminder.
It is a good idea to check the engine oil level
every time you get fuel. In order to get an accurate
reading, the oil must be warm and the vehicle
must be on level ground.
The engine oil dipstick handle is a yellow loop.

for the location of the engine oil dipstick.
1. Turn off the engine and give the oil a few
minutes to drain back into the oil pan. If
you do not do this, the oil dipstick might not
show the actual level.
2. Pull out the dipstick and clean it with a
lint-free paper towel or a cloth, then push
it back in all the way. Remove it again,
keeping the tip down.

Z06 models have a racetrack-ready dry sump
engine lubrication system. This high-performance
system operates differently than a standard
engine lubrication system and requires a special
procedure when checking the engine oil level.
Follow this procedure closely when checking the
engine oil level.

Tire Terminology and De nitions
Air Pressure:The amount of air inside the tire
pressing outward on each square inch of the
tire. Air pressure is expressed in pounds
per square inch (psi) or kilopascal (kPa).
Accessory Weight:This means the combined
weight of optional accessories. Some examples of
optional accessories are, automatic transmission,
power steering, power brakes, power windows,
power seats, and air conditioning.
Aspect Ratio:The relationship of a tire’s height
to its width.
Belt:A rubber coated layer of cords that is
located between the plies and the tread.
Cords may be made from steel or other
reinforcing materials.
Bead:The tire bead contains steel wires wrapped
by steel cords that hold the tire onto the rim.
Bias Ply Tire:A pneumatic tire in which the plies
are laid at alternate angles less than 90 degrees
to the centerline of the tread.Cold Tire Pressure:The amount of air pressure
in a tire, measured in pounds per square inch (psi)
or kilopascals (kPa) before a tire has built up
heat from driving. SeeIn ation - Tire Pressure

Curb Weight:This means the weight of a motor
vehicle with standard and optional equipment
including the maximum capacity of fuel, oil, and
coolant, but without passengers and cargo.
DOT Markings:A code molded into the sidewall
of a tire signifying that the tire is in compliance
with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)
motor vehicle safety standards. The DOT code
includes the Tire Identi cation Number (TIN),
an alphanumeric designator which can also identify
the tire manufacturer, production plant, brand,
and date of production.
GVWR:Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

The valve stems on your extended mobility
tires have sensors that are part of the Tire
Pressure Monitor (TPM). SeeTire Pressure
Monitor System on page 389. The TPM sensors
contain batteries which are designed to last
for 10 years under normal driving conditions.
See your dealer if you ever need to have a
wheel replaced, or if the sensors ever need
replacement.
Notice:Using liquid sealants can damage
the tire valves and tire pressure monitor
sensors in your extended mobility tires.
This damage would not be covered by
warranty. Don’t use liquid sealants in
your extended mobility tires.In ation - Tire Pressure
Tires need the correct amount of air pressure
to operate effectively.
Notice:Do not let anyone tell you that
under-in ation or over-in ation is all right.
It is not. If your tires do not have enough air
(under-in ation), you can get the following:
Too much exing
Too much heat
Tire overloading
Premature or irregular wear
Poor handling
Reduced fuel economy
If your tires have too much air (over-in ation),
you can get the following:
Unusual wear
Poor handling
Rough ride
Needless damage from road hazards
A Tire and Loading Information label is attached to
the vehicle’s b-pillar. This label lists your vehicle’s
original equipment tires and shows the correct
in ation pressures for your tires when they are cold.

As an added safety
feature, your vehicle
has been equipped
with a tire pressure
monitoring system
(TPMS) that illuminates
a low tire pressure
telltale when one
or more of your
tires is signi cantly
under-in ated.
Accordingly, when the low tire pressure telltale
illuminates, you should stop and check your
tires as soon as possible, and in ate them to
the proper pressure. Driving on a signi cantly
under-in ated tire causes the tire to overheat
and can lead to tire failure. Under-in ation also
reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life, and may
affect the vehicle’s handling and stopping ability.Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute for
proper tire maintenance, and it is the driver’s
responsibility to maintain correct tire pressure,
even if under-in ation has not reached the
level to trigger illumination of the TPMS low
tire pressure telltale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped with a
TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate when the
system is not operating properly. The TPMS
malfunction indicator is combined with the low
tire pressure telltale. When the system detects a
malfunction, the telltale will ash for approximately
one minute and then remain continuously
illuminated. This sequence will continue upon
subsequent vehicle start-ups as long as the
malfunction exists.
