Dual Automatic Climate Control
System
With this system you can control the heating,
cooling, and ventilation for your vehicle.
If your vehicle has the remote start feature and it is
activated, the climate control system will heat and
cool the inside of the vehicle, using the previous
system settings before the vehicle was turned off.
The rear window defogger will be turned on by the
climate control system when it is cold outside. If the
vehicle has heated seats, they will also turn on.
Cooled seats are not activated during a remote
start. Normal operation of the system will return
after the key is turned to the RUN position. See
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System Operation
on page 95for more information.
Automatic Operation
AUTO (Automatic Fan):When this position is
selected on the fan control, the system will adjust
the fan speed. If the OnStar
®system is activated
when this position is selected, the fan speed
will lower.
AUTO (Automatic Mode)
1. Turn the fan control to AUTO.
2. Turn the mode control to AUTO.
3. Adjust the temperature to a comfortable
setting between 68°F (21°C) and 78°F (26°C).
Choosing the coldest or warmest temperature
setting will not cause the system to heat or cool
any faster. In cold weather, the system will start
at reduced fan speeds to avoid blowing cold air
into your vehicle until warmer air is available.
The system will start out blowing air at the oor
but may change modes automatically as the
vehicle warms up to maintain the chosen
temperature setting. The length of time needed
to warm the interior will depend on the outside
temperature.

Minimize the length of the le, folder or playlist
names. Long le, folder, or playlist names, or a
combination of a large number of les and
folders, or playlists can cause the player to be
unable to play up to the maximum number of
les, folders, playlists, or sessions. If you wish
to play a large number of les, folders, playlists
or sessions, minimize the length of the le,
folder or playlist name. Long names also take
up more space on the display, potentially
getting cut off.
Finalize the audio disc before you burn it.
Trying to add music to an existing disc can
cause the disc not to function in the player.
Change playlists by using the previous and next
folder buttons, the tuner knob, or the seek buttons.
An MP3 CD-R that was recorded using no le
folders can also be played. If a CD-R contains more
than the maximum of 50 folders, 50 playlists, and
255 les, the player lets you access and navigate
up to the maximum, but all items over the maximum
cannot be accessed.
Root Directory
The root directory of the CD-R is treated as a folder.
If the root directory has compressed audio les, the
directory displays as F1 ROOT. All les contained
directly under the root directory are accessed prior
to any root directory folders. However, playlists (Px)
are always accessed before root folders or les.
Empty Directory or Folder
If a root directory or a folder exists somewhere
in the le structure that contains only folders/
subfolders and no compressed les directly
beneath them, the player advances to the next
folder in the le structure that contains compressed
audio les. The empty folder is not numbered or
displayed.

Drunken Driving
Death and injury associated with drinking and
driving is a national tragedy. It is the number
one contributor to the highway death toll,
claiming thousands of victims every year.
Alcohol affects four things that anyone needs to
drive a vehicle:
Judgment
Muscular Coordination
Vision
Attentiveness
Police records show that almost half of all motor
vehicle-related deaths involve alcohol. In most
cases, these deaths are the result of someone who
was drinking and driving. In recent years, more
than 16,000 annual motor vehicle-related deaths
have been associated with the use of alcohol, with
more than 300,000 people injured.Many adults — by some estimates, nearly half
the adult population — choose never to drink
alcohol, so they never drive after drinking.
For persons under 21, it is against the law in
every U.S. state to drink alcohol. There are good
medical, psychological, and developmental
reasons for these laws.
The obvious way to eliminate the leading highway
safety problem is for people never to drink
alcohol and then drive. But what if people do?
How much is “too much” if someone plans
to drive? It is a lot less than many might think.
Although it depends on each person and situation,
here is some general information on the problem.
The Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of
someone who is drinking depends upon
four things:
The amount of alcohol consumed
The drinker’s body weight
The amount of food that is consumed before
and during drinking
The length of time it has taken the drinker to
consume the alcohol

License Plate Lamp
To replace one of these bulbs, do the following:
1. Remove the license plate.
2. Reach up through the opening above the
license plate to access the two license
plate lamps.
3. Turn the socket counterclockwise to remove.
4. Grasp the bulb in the socket and pull
straight out.
5. Push the bulb straight into the socket until it
clicks to secure it.
6. Reverse Steps 1 through 3 to reinstall the
bulb socket.

Replacement
Windshield wiper blades should be inspected for
wear or cracking. SeeScheduled Maintenance
on page 442.
It is a good idea to clean or replace the wiper
blade assembly on a regular basis or when worn.
