Remove screw1of the ABS
sensor and remove the ABS
sensor from the holder.
Use a suitable auxiliary stand to
lift the front wheel. BMW Mo-
torrad recommends the BMW
Motorrad front wheel stand.
Install the front wheel stand

screws2.
Remove axle screw3.
Slacken right axle clamping
screws4.Use a screwdriver to remove
axle5.
Do not remove the grease from
the axle.
Hold left slider tube6and turn
the front wheel left to push the
brake pads apart.
Once the calipers have
been removed, there is
a risk of the brake pads being
pressed together to the extent
that they cannot be slipped back
over the brake disc on reas-
sembly.
Do not operate the handbrake

Tighten axle screw3to the
specified torque; if necessary
use a screwdriver to counter-
hold at the right-hand side.
Nut on quick-release
axle, front
80 Nm
Remove the front-wheel stand.
Without operating the brakes:
firmly compress the forks and
release; repeat the procedure
several times.
Tighten left axle clamping
screws2to the specified
tightening torque.

Seat the ABS sensor in the
holder and install screw1of

Remove the auxiliary stand.
Firmly pull the brake lever sev-
eral times to seat the brake
pads against the brake disc.
