Wherever you are seated in the ve-
hicle, always fasten your seat belt,
e v e n f o r s h o r t j o u r n e y s .
Do not invert the seat belt buckles as
t h e y w i l l n o t f u l i l t h e i r r o l e f u l l y .
If the seats have armrests * , the lap
part of the seat belt must always pass
under the armrest.
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e i t t e d w i t h a n i n e r t i a
r e e l p e r m i t t i n g a u t o m a t i c a d j u s t m e n t
of the length of the strap to your size.
The seat belt is stored automatically
when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that the
seat belt is rolled up correctly.
The lower part of the strap must be
positioned as low as possible on the
pelvis.
The upper part must be positioned in
the hollow of the shoulder.
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e i t t e d w i t h a n a u -
tomatic locking device which comes
into operation in the event of a colli-
sion, on emergency braking or if the
vehicle rolls over. You can release the
device by pulling rapidly on the strap
and releasing it. In order to be effective, a seat belt:
- must be tightened as close to the body as possible,
- must restrain one adult only,
- must not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
- must be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement, checking
that it does not twist,
- m u s t n o t b e t r a n s f o r m e d o r m o d i i e d to avoid altering its perfor mance.
In accordance with current safety reg-
ulations, all repairs and checks must
be carried out by a PEUGEOT dealer
who guarantees that the work is car-
ried out correctly.
Have your seat belts checked regu-
larly by a PEUGEOT dealer and par-
ticularly if the straps show signs of
damage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water or a textile cleaning product,
sold by PEUGEOT dealers.
After folding or moving a seat or rear
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt
is positioned and rolled up correctly. Recommendations for children:
- use a suitable child seat if the pas-
senger is less than 12 years old or
s h o r t e r t h a n o n e m e t r e i f t y ,
- do not use the strap-guide * when a child seat is installed.
- never use the same seat belt to secure more than one person,
- never allow a child to travel on your lap.
Depending on the nature and se-
riousness of the impacts , the pre-
tensioning device may be triggered
before and independently of the air
bags. Triggering of the pre-tensioners
is accompanied by a slight emission
of harmless smoke and a noise, due
to the activation of the pyrotechnic
cartridge incorporated in the system.
In all cases, the air bag warning light
comes on.
Following an impact, have the seat
belts system checked, and if necessary
replaced, by a PEUGEOT dealer.

For the air bags to be fully
effective, observe the following
safety rules:
Sit in a normal upright position.
W e a r a c o r r e c t l y a d j u s t e d s e a t b e l t .
Do not leave anything between the
occupants and the air bags (a child,
p e t , o b j e c t . . . ) .
This could hamper the operation of
t h e a i r b a g s o r i n j u r e t h e o c c u p a n t s .
After an accident or if the vehicle has
been stolen or broken into, have the
air bag systems checked.
All work on the air bag system is strict-
ly forbidden unless it is carried out by
q u a l i i e d p e r s o n n e l o f t h e P E U G E O T
network.
Even if all of the precautions men-
t i o n e d a r e o b s e r v e d , a r i s k o f i n j u r y
or of minor burns to the head, chest
or arms when an air bag is triggered
cannot be ruled out. In fact, the bag
i n l a t e s a l m o s t i n s t a n t l y ( w i t h i n a f e w
m i l l i s e c o n d s ) t h e n d e l a t e s w i t h i n t h e
same time discharging the hot gas via
openings provided for this purpose.Front air bags
Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or restin
g your hands on
the centre part of the wheel.
Passengers must not place their feet on the fascia.
Smoke as little as possible as deployment of the air bags can cau se burns or
t h e r i s k o f i n j u r y f r o m a c i g a r e t t e o r p i p e .
Never remove or pierce the steering wheel or hit it violently.
Side air bags*
O n l y p u t a p p r o v e d c o v e r s o n t h e s e a t s . T h e s e w i l l n o t h i n d e r i n l a t i o n o f t h e s i d e
air bags. Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Do not sit with the upper part of the body any nearer to t he door than neces-
sary.
Curtain air bags *

t h e c u r t a i n a i r b a g i n l a t e s .
Do not remove the grab handles installed on the roof, they play a part in secu-
ring the curtain air bags.

BONNET
Protects the components of the engine
and provides access for checking lev-
els.
Push the exterior control B to the left
and raise the bonnet.
Unclip the strut C from its housing.
Fix the strut in one of the two notch-
es to hold the bonnet open.
Closing
Take the strut out of the support
notch.
Clip the strut in its housing.
Lower the bonnet and release it at
the end of its travel.
Pull on the bonnet to check that it is
secured correctly.
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL
(DIESEL)
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s i t t e d w i t h a n H D I e n -
gine, the fuel circuit must be reprimed
if you run out of fuel (refer to the corre-
sponding graphic).
This system consists of a repriming
pump and a transparent pipe.
Opening
Open the front left door.
Pull the interior control A , located at
the bottom of the door frame.
The location of the interior control
prevents opening of the bonnet
while the front left door is closed. 1.4 litre Turbo HDI engine
Open the bonnet.
F i l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t i v e l i -
tres of diesel.
Squeeze and release the repriming
pump until fuel appears in the trans-
parent pipe.
Operate the starter until the engine
starts.
Close the bonnet.
1.6 litre Turbo HDI 16V engine
Open the bonnet.
F i l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t i v e l i -
tres of diesel.
Unclip the style cover to gain access
to the repriming pump.
Squeeze and release the repriming
pump until fuel appears in the trans-
parent pipe with the green connec-
tor.
Operate the starter until the engine
starts.
Put the style cover back in position
and clip it in place.
Close the bonnet.

CHANGING A WHEEL
Procedure for changing a faulty wheel
for the spare wheel using the tools pro-
vided with the vehicle.
The tools are installed in the boot under
t h e l o o r .
To gain access to them:
open the boot,
r a i s e t h e l o o r ,
secure it by hooking the cord(s) on
the hook(s) on the rear shelf sup-
port,
remove the box containing the
tools.
1. Wheelbrace.
Permits removal of the wheel trim and removal of the wheel
i x i n g b o l t s .
2. Jack with integral handle.
Permits raising of the vehicle.
3. "Bolt cover" tool.
Permits removal of the bolt protectors (covers) on alloy
wheels.
4. Socket for the anti-theft bolts
(located in the glove box).
Permits adaptation of the wheelbrace to the special
"anti-theft" bolts.

Fixing the steel or "space-
saving" type spare wheel
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s i t t e d w i t h a l -
loy wheels, it is normal to notice,
w h e n t i g h t e n i n g t h e b o l t s o n i t t i n g ,
that the washers do not come into
contact with the steel or "space-
saving" type spare wheel. The
wheel is secured by the conical
contact of each bolt.
Access to the spare wheel
(Saloon)
The spare wheel is installed in the boot
u n d e r t h e l o o r .
According to model, the spare wheel may
be steel or of the "space saving" type.
To gain access to it, refer to the para-
graph "Access to the tools" on the pre-
vious page. Taking out the wheel
Unscrew the yellow central bolt.
Raise the spare wheel towards you
from the rear.
Take the wheel out of the boot.
Putting the wheel back in place
Put the wheel back in its housing.
Unscrew the yellow central bolt by a
few turns then put it in place in the
centre of the wheel.
Tighten fully until the central bolt
clicks to retain the wheel correctly.
Put the box back in place in the cen-
tre of the wheel.
