CAUTION
If the “ABS” warning light remains on
together with the brake system warn-
ing light, immediately stop your ve-
hicle at a safe place and contact your
Scion dealer.
In this case, not only the antilock
brake system will fail but also the ve-
hicle will become extremely unstable
during braking.
(j) Open Door Warning Light
This light remains on until all the side
doors and back door are completely
closed.(k) SRS Warning Light
This indicator comes on when the igni-
tion key is turned to the “ON” position.
It goes off after about 6 seconds. This
means the SRS front airbags, side and
curtain shield airbags and seat belt pre-
tensioners are operating properly.
This warning light system monitors the
airbag sensor assembly, front airbag sen-
sors, side and curtain shield airbag sen-
sors, curtain shield airbag sensors, driv-
er ’s seat position sensor, driver ’s seat belt
buckle switch, passenger ’s seat belt
buckle switch, seat belt pretensioner as-
semblies, inflators, warning light, intercon-
necting wiring and power sources.
If any of the following conditions occurs,
this indicates a malfunction of the airbags
or seat belt pretensioners Contact your
Scion dealer as soon as possible.
When the ignition key is turned to the
“ON” position, the light does not come
on or remains on.
The light comes on or starts flashing
while driving.(l) High Engine Coolant Temperature
Warning Light
When the ignition key is turned to the
“ON” position, the engine coolant tempera-
ture warning light (red) will come on for
a few seconds. If the engine coolant tem-
perature is low, the warning light will then
change from red to blue, and turn off
when the engine is fully warmed. If it
stays on even after the engine is fully
warmed, contact your Scion dealer as
soon as possible to service the vehicle.
If the engine coolant temperature warning
light (red) flashes, the engine is too hot.
If your vehicle overheats, stop your ve-
hicle and allow the engine to cool.
Your vehicle may overheat during severe
operating conditions, such as:
Driving up a long hill on a hot day.
Reducing speed or stopping after high
speed driving.
Idling for a long period with the air
conditioning on in stop −and− go traffic.

Waxing your Scion
Polishing and waxing is recommended
to maintain the original beauty of your
Scion’s finish.
Apply wax once a month or if the vehicle
surface does not repel water well.1. Always wash and dry the vehicle be- fore you begin waxing, even if you are
using a combined cleaner and wax.
2. Use a good quality polish and wax. If the finish has become extremely weath-
ered, use a car −cleaning polish, fol-
lowed by a separate wax. Carefully fol-
low the manufacturer ’s instructions and
precautions. Be sure to polish and wax
the chrome trim as well as the paint.
Windshield washer nozzles: Make sure
that the nozzles do not become blocked
when waxing. If a nozzle becomes
blocked, contact your Scion dealer to have
the vehicle serviced.
NOTICE
If a nozzle becomes blocked, do not
try to clear it with a pin or other
object. The nozzle will be damaged.
Exterior lights: Do not apply wax on the
surfaces of the lights. Wax may cause
damage to the lenses. If you accidentally
put wax on the light surface, wipe or
wash it off.
3. Wax the vehicle again when water does not bead but remains on the sur-
face in large patches.
NOTICE
Always remove the plastic bumpers if
your vehicle is repainted and placed
in a high heat paint waxing booth.
High temperatures could damage the
bumpers.
Cleaning the interior
CAUTION
Vehicles with side airbags:
Be careful not to splash water or
spill liquid on the floor. This may
prevent the side airbags from acti-
vating correctly, resulting in serious
injury.
Do not wash the vehicle floor with
water, or allow water to get onto
the floor when cleaning the vehicle
interior or exterior. Water may get
into audio components or other
electrical components above or un-
der the floor carpet (or mat) and
cause a malfunction; and it may
cause body corrosion.
