Tires and loading on your Toyota
Underinflated or overinflated tire inflation pressure
and the excess load may result in the deterioration
of steering ability and braking ability, leading to
an accident. Check the tire inflation pressure peri-
odically and be sure to keep the load limits given
in this Owner ’s Manual. For details about tire infla-
tion pressure and load limits, see pages 320 and
246.
Scrapping of your Toyota
The SRS airbag and seat belt pretensioner devices in
your Toyota contain explosive chemicals. If the vehicle
is scrapped with the airbags and pretensioners left as
they are, this may cause an accident such as fire. Be
sure to have the systems of the SRS airbag and seat
belt pretensioner removed and disposed of by a qualified
service shop or by your Toyota dealer before you dis-
pose of your vehicle.

If the indicator or buzzer comes on...Do this.
(h)Take vehicle to Toyota dealer immediately.
(i)Take vehicle to Toyota dealer. If brake system warning light is also on, stop immedi-
ately and contact Toyota dealer.
(j)Close all side doors and back door.
(k)Adjust tire inflation pressure (including spare tire). If light remains on,
contract Toyota dealer.
(l)Shift four−wheel drive control out of “N”.

Either of the following conditions may
occur, but do not indicate a malfunc-
tion.
The light may stay on for about 60
seconds after the ignition key is turned
to “ON” position. It is normal if it turns
off after a while.
Depressing the brake pedal repeatedly
may turn on the light. It is normal if it
turns off after a few seconds.
(j) Open Door Warning Light
This light remains on until all the side
doors and back door are completely
closed.
(k) Low tire pressure warning light
This light comes on when the ignition key
is turned to the “ON” position. If the tire
pressure warning system works properly
and tire inflation pressure is appropriate,
the light goes off after a few seconds.
This light comes on or flashes in the fol-
lowing cases when the ignition key is
turned to the “ON” position.
When the low tire inflation pressure
is detected while driving...
If any tire has low inflation pressure,
the light comes on. The light goes off after the tire inflation
pressure is adjusted to a specified lev-
el.
When initializing the system...
If initialization is completed, the light
blinks three times.
When the system malfunctions...
If the system malfunctions, the light
blinks.
Although it is no problem to continue
driving, have your vehicle checked by
your Toyota dealer as soon as pos-
sible.
(l) Unengaged “Park” Warning Light
This light warns that the transmission
“Park” mechanism is not engaged. If the
four −wheel drive control is in the “N” posi-
tion while the selector lever is in the “P”
position, the transmission will disengage
and the wheels will not lock.
CAUTION
To restore the park function, shift the
four wheel drive control out of “N”,
or the vehicle can move.
(m) Automatic Transmission Fluid Tem- perature Warning Light
This light warns that the automatic trans-
mission fluid temperature is too high.
If this light comes on while you are driv-
ing, slow down and pull off the road. Stop
the vehicle at a safe place and put the
selector lever in “P” and leave the engine
idling until the light goes off. If the light
goes off, you can start the vehicle again.
If the light does not go off, call a Toyota
dealer or qualified repair shop for assis-
tance.
NOTICE
Continued driving with the warning
light on may damage the automatic
transmission.

When the “ABS” warning light comes on,
the vehicle stability control system is not
operating.
The “VSC/TRAC” warning light and “VSC
OFF” indicator light will come on when the
ignition key is turned “ON”, and will go off
after a few seconds.
The “VSC/TRAC” warning light and “VSC
OFF” indicator light may stay on for 60
seconds after the ignition key is turned to
“ON” position. It is normal if they go off
after a few seconds.
Depressing the brake pedal repeatedly
may turn on the lights. It is normal if they
go off after a few seconds.
When the “VSC/TRAC” warning light and
“VSC OFF” indicator light come on, the
vehicle stability control system is not op-
erating, but there is no problem if you
continue to drive.
In the following cases, contact your Toyota
dealer:
The “VSC/TRAC” warning light, “VSC
OFF” indicator light and slip indicator
light do not come on after the ignition
key is turned “ON”.
The “VSC/TRAC” warning light and
“VSC OFF” indicator light remain on af-
ter the ignition key is turned “ON”.
The “VSC OFF” indicator light comes
on while driving without pushing the
center differential lock switch.

Low tire pressure warning light
The light warns you that the tire infla-
tion pressure is low.
The low tire pressure warning light comes
on when the ignition key is turned to the
“ON” position and goes off after a few
seconds. This means the low tire pres-
sure warning light is operating properly.
If the tire inflation pressure becomes low,
the light comes on again. If the low tire pressure warning light does
not go off or comes on during driving, it
indicates that tire inflation pressure is low.
Make sure there is no flat tire. If the
light comes on again even after tire infla-
tion pressure adjustment, you may have a
flat tire. If there is not adequate air
pressure in the tires, the light will not go
off.
The light may turn on due to natural
causes such as natural air leaks or tire
inflation pressure changes caused by tem-
perature. In this case, adjusting the tire
inflation pressure will turn off the light.
The tire pressure warning system is not
a substitute for checking tire inflation
pressure.
For details about adjusting the tire
inflation pressure, see “Checking tire
inflation pressure” on page 320.
If the low tire pressure warning light
comes on, the action you must take is
different depending on the type of tires
used.
