Two transmitters are provided for your vehicle.
The remote keyless entry system has the following
functions. y Locking and unlocking the doors without a key
y Sounding a panic alarm
y Arming and disarming the alarm system. See the
next section “Alarm system ” for detailed information.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC
Rules and with RSS-210 of Industry Canada. Oper- ation is subject to the fo llowing two conditions: (1)
This device may not cause harmful interference,
and (2) this device must accept any interference
received, including interference that may cause
undesired operation.
Changes or modifications not expressly approved
by the party responsible for compliance could
void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
The operable distance of the keyless entry system is
approximately 30 feet (10 meters). However, this dis-
tance will vary depending on environmental condi-
tions. The system’s operable distance will be shorter
in areas near a facility or electronic equipment emitting
strong radio waves such as a power plant, broadcast station, TV tower, or remote controller of home elec-
tronic appliances.

key is inserted in the igni tion switch to prevent acci-
dental lockout.
y Do not expose the transmitter to severe
shocks, such as those experienced as a result
of dropping or throwing. y Do not take the transm itter apart except when
replacing the battery. y Do not get the tr ansmitter wet. If it gets wet,
wipe it dry with a cloth immediately.

6. The turn signal lights flashes 3 times to indicate
completion of the setting.
NOTE
If you do not close the driver’s door within 10 sec-
onds after Step 4, a flash of the turn signal lights
will signal time-out. If this happens, repeat the
whole procedure from Step 1.

Replacing the battery

transmitter range will begin to decrease. Replace the
battery as soon as possible. To replace the battery:

2. Separate the case.
3. Remove the old battery from the holder. 1) Negative (–) side facing up
4. Replace with a new battery (Type CR2025 or
equivalent) making sure to install the new battery with
the negative (–) side facing up.
5. Reinstall the back half of the transmitter case by
snapping it back on. After the battery is repl aced, the transmitter must
be synchronized with the keyless entry system’s
control unit. Press either the “ ” or “ ” but-ton six times to synchronize the unit.

Do not let dust, oil or water get on or in the
transmitter when re placing the battery.
y Be careful not to damage the printed circuit
board in the transmitter when replacing the bat-
tery.

transmitters (up to four can be programmed), you
should re-program all of your transmitters for security
reasons. It is recommended that you have your dealer
program all of your transmitters into your system. TProgramming the transmitters
The keyless entry system is equipped with a special
code learning feature that allows you to program new
transmitter codes into the system or to delete old
ones. The system can learn up to four unique transmit-
ter codes. The four transmitter codes may be the same or different. Programming transmitter codes into system:

„Disarming the system„
Disarming the systemBriefly press the “ ” button (for less than two sec-
onds) on the remote transmitter. The driver’s door will
unlock, an electronic chirp will sound twice, the turn
signal lights will flash twice and the indicator light will
go off.
NOTE
The system can be disarmed by the following
method. yCycle the ignition switch from the “LOCK” to the
“ON” position three times within 5 seconds. T Emergency disarming
If you cannot disarm the system using the transmitter
(i.e. the transmitter is lost, broken or the transmitter
battery is too weak), yo u can disarm the system with-
out using the transmitter.
1. Unlock the door with the key and then open the
door.
2. Insert the key into the ignition switch and cycle it
from the “LOCK” to the “ON” position three times with-
in 5 seconds .
„ Valet mode
„Valet modeWhen you choose the valet mode, the security system
does not operate. In valet mode, the remote transmit- ter is used only for locking and unlocking the doors
and panic activation.
To enter the valet mode, chang
e the setting of your ve-
hicle’s alarm system for deactivation mode. (Refer to
“Activating and deactivating the alarm system” in thissection.)
To exit valet mode, change the setting of your vehi-
cle’s alarm system for activation mode. (Refer to “Ac- tivating and deactiva ting the alarm system” in this sec-
tion.)
NOTE
The security indicator light does not flash during the valet mode. „ Passive arming
When passive arming mode has been programmed by
the dealer, arming of the syst em is automatically ac-
complished without using the remote transmitter. Note
that in this mode, DOORS MUST BE MANUALLY LOCKED. T To enter the passive mode
If you wish to program the passive arming mode, have
it done by your SUBARU dealer.

Never turn the igniti on switch to “LOCK”
while the vehicle is being driven or towed be-
cause that will lock the steering wheel, prevent-
ing steering control. And when the engine is
turned off, it takes a much greater effort than
usual to steer. y Before leaving the vehicle, always remove
the key from the ignition switch for safety and
never allow an unattended child to remain in
the vehicle. Failure to follow this procedure
could result in injury to a child or others. Chil-
dren could operate the power windows, the
sunroof or other controls or even make the ve-
hicle move.
The ignition switch has four positions: LOCK, ACC,
ON and START.
NOTE y Keep the ignition switch in the “LOCK” position
when the engine is not running. y Using electrical accessories for a long time with
the ignition switch in th e “ON” or “ACC” position
can cause the battery to go dead.
If the ignition switch will not move from the
“LOCK” position to the “ACC” position, turn the
steering wheel slightly to the left and right as you
turn the ignition switch.y If the key is attached to a keyholder or to a large
bunch of other keys, centrifugal force may act on
it as the vehicle moves, resulting in unwanted
turning of the ignition switch. Also, if a large key-

Dome light
The dome light switch has three positions: ON: The light stays on continuously.
DOOR (middle position): The light comes on when
any of the doors is open. The light remains on for sev-
eral seconds and gradually goes out after all doors areclosed.
The light also can be turned on by use of the keyless
entry transmitter. See th e “Remote keyless entry sys-
tem” section in chapter 2 for detailed information.
OFF: The light stays off. When leaving your vehicle, make sure the light goes
out to avoid battery discharge.
