Disarming the alarm system
Unlock your vehicle with the SmartKey
or KEYLESS-GO*.
The turn signal lamps flash once to in-
dicate that the alarm system is dis-
armed.Canceling the alarm
To cancel the alarm:
With the SmartKey

Insert the SmartKey in the starter
switch.
or

Press the Œ or ‹ button on the
SmartKey.
The alarm is canceled.With KEYLESS-GO*

Grasp an outside door handle.
The SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO must
be within 3 ft. (1 m) of the vehicle.
or

Press the KEYLESS-GO start/stop but-
ton (
page 35).
The SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO must
be inside the vehicle.
The alarm is canceled.
iThe alarm system will rearm automati-
cally again after approximately 40 sec-
onds if no door was opened.

Once the tow-away alarm is armed, a visual
and audible alarm will be triggered when
someone attempts to raise the vehicle.Arming tow-away alarm

Lock your vehicle with the SmartKey or
KEYLESS-GO*.
The tow-away alarm is automatically
armed after about 30 seconds.
Disarming tow-away alarm
To prevent triggering the tow-away alarm,
switch off the tow-away alarm feature be-
fore towing the vehicle, or when parking on
a surface subject to movement, such as a
ferry or auto train.The button is located on the upper part of
the front center console.

Switch off the ignition and remove the
SmartKey from the starter switch.
iThe tow-away protection alarm is trig-
gered, for example, if the vehicle is lift-
ed on one side.
If the alarm stays on for more than
30 seconds, a call to the Response
Center is initiated automatically by the
Tele Aid system (
page 254) provided
Tele Aid service was subscribed to and
properly activated and that necessary
cellular service and GPS coverage are
available.
iYou cannot disarm the tow-away alarm
if the ignition is switched on.

Press button2.
The indicator lamp1 in the button
comes on briefly.

Exit the vehicle and lock it with the
SmartKey or (vehicles with
KEYLESS-GO*) with the lock button on
each outside door handle or trunk lid.Canceling the alarm

locking knobs in the doors move down.
The anti-theft alarm system is armed.
Selective setting
If you frequently travel alone, you may wish
to reprogram the SmartKey so that
pressingŒ only unlocks the driver’s
door and the fuel filler flap.

Press and hold buttonsŒ and‹
simultaneously for about five seconds
until battery check lamp5 flashes
twice.
The SmartKey will then function as fol-
lows:Unlocking driver’s door and fuel filler
flap

Press buttonΠonce.
All turn signal lamps flash once. The
locking knob in the driver’s door moves
up. The anti-theft alarm system is dis-
armed.
Global unlocking

Press buttonΠtwice.
All turn signal lamps flash once. The
locking knobs in the doors move up.
The anti-theft alarm system is dis-
armed.
Global locking

Press button‹.
With the trunk and all doors closed, all
turn signal lamps flash three times. The
locking knobs in the doors move down.
The anti-theft alarm system is armed.

Locking and unlocking


If the SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO is re-
moved from the vehicle while the igni-
tion is switched on (e.g. if passenger
exits the vehicle with the SmartKey
with KEYLESS-GO), the message: KEY
NOT RECOGNIZEDwill appear in the multifunction display
while driving off.
Find the SmartKey or change its
present location immediately
(e.g. place it on the front passenger
seat or insert it in shirt pocket).


Remember that the engine can be
started by anyone with a SmartKey
with KEYLESS-GO that is left inside the
vehicle. If you leave the SmartKey with
KEYLESS-GO behind when exiting and
locking the vehicle, the message: KEY
STILL IN VEHICLEwill appear in the multifunction display.Factory setting
Global unlocking

The vehicle will lock again automatically
and reactivate the anti-theft alarm system

iIf the vehicle has been parked for more
than 72 hours, you must pull an outside
door handle in order to activate the
KEYLESS-GO function.
iThe vehicle could inadvertently be un-
locked if the SmartKey with
KEYLESS-GO is within 3 ft. (1 m) of the
vehicle and:

an outside door handle is splashed
with water, or


you attempt to clean an outside
door handle.

If you frequently travel alone, you may wish

er’s outside door handle only the driver’s
door and the fuel filler flap unlocks.

Global locking

Press lock button on an outside door
handle (
page 58).
With the trunk and all doors closed, all
turn signal lamps flash three times. The
locking knobs in the doors move down.
The anti-theft alarm system is armed.Restoring to factory setting

Press and hold buttonsŒ and‹
simultaneously for about six seconds
until battery check lamp5 flashes
twice.
iYou can also lock the vehicle using the
lock button on the trunk lid
(page 101) or, vehicles with trunk lid
opening/closing system*,
KEYLESS-GO locking/closing switch
(page 109).
!If you cannot lock or unlock the vehicle
with the SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO,
then either the battery in the SmartKey
with KEYLESS-GO is discharged, the
SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO is mal-
functioning or the vehicle battery is
drained.

Check the battery in the SmartKey
with KEYLESS-GO and replace it if
necessary (
page 392).

Battery check lamp5 comes on brief-
ly to indicate that the SmartKey with
KEYLESS-GO battery is in order.Global locking using the lock button on

Have the vehicle battery and the
battery connections checked
(page 408).
If the SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO is
malfunctioning, contact an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.
!If battery check lamp5 does not
come on briefly during check, the
SmartKey battery with KEYLESS-GO is
discharged.
Replace the battery (
page 392).
You can obtain the required battery at
any authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.
iIf the battery is checked within signal
range of the vehicle, pressing the
button‹ orŒ will lock or unlock
the vehicle accordingly.iTo prevent a possible inadvertent lock-
out, the trunk will open automatically if
a SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO is recog-
nized inside the vehicle or in the trunk.
iYou can also lock the vehicle using the
lock button on an outside door handle
(page 58) or, vehicles with trunk lid
opening/closing system*,
KEYLESS-GO locking/closing switch
(page 109).

Locking and unlocking
Front doors
Pull on door handle2 on the respec-
tive front door to open door.
If door was locked, locking knob1 will
move up.
Rear doors

Pull up locking knob1 on the respec-
tive rear door to unlock door.

Pull on door handle2 on the respec-
tive rear door to open door.
Opening the trunk
Opening the trunk from the outside
A minimum height clearance of 6 ft.
(1.85 m) is required to open the trunk lid.
The trunk lid release button is located in
the rear license plate recess.

In vehicles without KEYLESS-GO*: The ve-
hicle must be unlocked.
Press the outer left-hand side of trunk
lid button1.
The trunk lid opens.
iIf the vehicle has previously been
locked with the SmartKey or
KEYLESS-GO*, opening a door from the
inside will trigger the anti-theft alarm
system.
To cancel the alarm, do one of the fol-
lowing:

Insert the SmartKey in the starter
switch.


Press button Œ or ‹ on the
SmartKey.
In vehicles with KEYLESS-GO*:


Grasp an outside door handle.
The SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO
must be within 3 ft. (1 m) of the ve-
hicle.


Press the KEYLESS-GO* start/stop
