If the "PASSENGER AIRBAG
OFF" indicator is illuminated
when the front passenger's
seat is occupied by a person
of adult size who is seated
properly, or if the "PASSEN-
GER AIRBAG OFF" indicator"
is not illuminated when the
front passenger's seat is
unoccupied or occupied by a
very small person, the occu-
pant classification system is
not working properly. Have
your vehicle immediately
inspected by your Kia dealer if
the occupant classification
system is not working proper-
ly.
(Continued)
CAUTION
If the occupant classification
system is not working properly,
the airbag warning light ( ) on
the instrument panel will illumi-
nate. If there is a malfunction of
the occupant classification sys-
tem, the "PASSENGER AIRBAG
OFF" indicator will not illumi-
nate and the front passenger's
airbag will deploy in frontal
crashes even if there is an adult
sized occupant in the front pas-
senger seat. If the SRS airbag
warning light does not illumi-
nate when the ignition key is
turned to "ON" position, if it
remains illuminated after blink-
ing for approximately six sec-
onds, or if it illuminates while
the vehicle is being driven, have
an authorized Kia dealer inspect
the occupant classification sys-
tem with the SRS airbag system
as soon as possible.
WARNING
If the front passenger seat
should be modified for persons
with disabilities that may affect
the operation of the occupant
classification system, contact
an authorized Kia dealer.
WARNING
Even though your vehicle isequipped with the occupant
classification system, do not
install a child restraint system
in the front passenger seat.
The child could be severely
injured or killed if the airbag
deploys. Children are afforded
the most protection in the
event of an accident when
they are restrained by the
proper restraint system in the
rear seat.

Side airbag (if equipped)Side airbags are stored in the left
side of the driver’s seat and right side
of the front passenger’ s seat.
If airbag inflation conditions are met
(side collision), they will inflate.
WARNING
Do not use any accessory seat covers for the vehicle
equipped with side airbags.
Use of seat covers could inter-
fere with side airbag deploy-
ment.
If seat or seat cover is dam-
aged, have the vehicle
checked and repaired by an
authorized Kia dealer. Inform
them that your vehicle is
equipped with side airbags.
Do not make modifications or additions to the seats. If seats
not allowed by Kia Motors are
used, unexpected injury may
result in due to the malfunc-
tion of the airbag system.

Never allow front passengerto put their hands, feet or face
on or close to the instrument
panel. In the event of airbag
deployment, such a misposi-
tioned occupant would be
likely to suffer severe injury or
death.
Never allow children, pregnant women or weak persons to sit
in the front passenger seat.
Do not put child restraint sys-
tem on the front passenger's
seat either. They may be seri-
ously injured by the airbag
inflation when airbag deploys.
Do not put objects or stickers on the instrument panel. Do
not apply any accessory to the
front windshield. Do not install
aftermarket mirrors or acces-
sories on the factory-installed
rearview mirror. Any of these
could interfere with the
deployment of the airbag or
could hit your body at high
speed and cause severe bodi-
ly injury and even death.

Installing a child restraint on a
front passenger seat is forbid-
den.Never place a rear-facing child
restraint in the front passenger seat.
If the airbag deploys, it would impact
the rear-facing child restraint, caus-
ing serious or fatal injury.
In addition, do not place front-facing
child restraint in the front passenger
seat either. If the front passenger
airbag inflates, it would cause seri-
ous or fatal injuries to the improperly
positioned or improperly restrained
child.
WARNING
Never put child restraint in the
front passenger seat. If the
front passenger airbag
inflates, it would cause seri-
ous or fatal injuries.
When children are seated in the rear outboard seats in
which curtain airbags are
equipped, be sure to put the
child restraint system as far
away from the door side as
possible, and secure the child
restraint system to be locked
in position.
Inflation of curtain airbag
could cause serious injury or
death due to the expansion
impact.
WARNING
When the airbags deploy, the
airbag related parts in steering
wheel and/or instrument panel
and/or in both sides of the roof
rails above the front and rear
doors are very hot. To prevent
injury, do not touch the airbag
storage areas internal compo-
nents immediately after an
airbag has inflated.

Knowing your vehicle
Airbag warning lightThe purpose of airbag warning light
in your instrument panel is to alert
you of a potential problem with your
airbag - Supplemental Restraint
System (SRS).When the ignition switch is turned
ON, the indicator light should blink or
illuminate for approximately 6 sec-
onds, then go off.
Have the system checked if:
The light does not turn on briefly
when you turn the ignition ON.
The light stays on after the engine
starts.
The light comes on while the vehi-
cle is in motion.
Airbag (Supplemental
Restraint System) service Your Supplemental Restraint System
is virtually maintenance-free. There
are no parts which you can service.
You must have the system serviced
under the following circumstances:
If an airbag ever inflates, the airbag
must be replaced. Do not try to
remove or discard the airbag by
yourself. This must be done by an
authorized Kia dealer.
If the airbag warning indicator light
alerts you to a problem, have the
airbag system checked as soon as
possible. Otherwise, your airbag
system may be ineffective.

✽ ✽
NOTICE• Make sure to refuel with gasoline
(unleaded fuel) only for the gaso-
line engine vehicles.
Check to make sure the fuel filler cap is securely closed after refuel-
ing.
If the fuel filler cap requires replacement, use only a genuine
Kia cap or the equivalent specified
for your vehicle. An incorrect fuel
filler cap can result in a serious
malfunction of the fuel system or
emission control system. Correct
replacement caps are available at
authorized Kia dealers.
Do not spill fuel on the exterior surfaces of the vehicle. Any type of
fuel spilled on painted surfaces
may damage the paint.
A loose fuel filler cap may cause the “Check Engine” (Malfunction
Indicator) light in the instrument
panel to illuminate unnecessarily.
If the fuel filler lid will not open in cold weather because the area
around it is frozen, push or lightly
tap the lid.
(Continued)
When refueling always shut
the engine off. Sparks pro-
duced by electrical compo-
nents related to the engine
can ignite fuel vapors causing
a fire. Always insure that the
engine is OFF before and dur-
ing refueling. Once refueling
is complete, check to make
sure the fuel filler cap and
door are securely closed,
before starting the engine.
Do not light any fire around a gas station. DO NOT use
matches or a lighter and DO
NOT SMOKE or leave a lit cig-
arette in your vehicle while at
a gas station especially during
refueling. Automotive fuel is
highly flammable and can,
when ignited, result in explo-
sion by flames.
(Continued)
(Continued)
If a fire breaks out during refu-eling, leave the vicinity of the
vehicle, and immediately con-
tact the manager of the gas
station or contact the police
and local fire department.
Follow any safety instructions
they provide.

Tilt steering (if equipped)A tilt steering wheel allows you to
adjust the steering wheel before you
drive. You can also raise it to the
highest level to give your legs more
room when you exit and enter the
vehicle.
The steering wheel should be posi-
tioned so that it is comfortable for
you to drive, while permitting you to
see the instrument panel warning
lights and gauges. To change the steering wheel angle,
pull down (
➀) the lock release lever,
adjust the steering wheel to the
desired angle (
➁), then pull up the
lock-release lever to lock the steering
wheel in place.
Be sure to adjust the steering wheel
to the desired position before driving.
WARNING
Never adjust the angle of
steering wheel while driving.
You may lose your steering
control and cause severe per-
sonal injury or accidents.
After adjusting, push the
steering wheel both up and
down to be certain it is locked
in position.

Engine temperature gauge This gauge shows the temperature
of the engine coolant when the igni-
tion switch is ON.
Do not continue driving with an over-
heated engine. If your vehicle over-
heats, refer to “Overheating”in the
Index.✽ ✽
NOTICEIf the gauge pointer moves beyond
the normal range area toward the
“H” position, it indicates overheat-
ing that may damage the engine.
Fuel gaugeThe fuel gauge indicates the approx-
imate amount of fuel remaining in the
fuel tank.
Fuel tank capacity - 55 litres.
The fuel gauge is supplemented by a
low fuel warning light, which will illu-
minate when the fuel level has
dropped to about 8.5 liters.
Instrument panel illumination
(if equipped)When the vehicle’ s parking lights or
headlights are on, rotate the illumina-
tion control knob to adjust the instru-
ment panel illumination intensity.
