CYLINDER BLOCK
Revision: 2006 December 2006 FX35/FX45
c. Install main bearings paying attention to the direction.
Main bearing with oil hole and groove goes on cylinder block.
The one without them goes on main bearing cap.
Before installing main bearings, apply engine oil to the bear-
ing surface (inside). Do not apply engine oil to the back sur-
face, but thoroughly clean it.
When installing, align main bearing stopper protrusion to cut-
out of cylinder block and main bearing caps.
Ensure the oil holes on cylinder block and those on the corre-
sponding bearing are aligned.
4. Install pilot converter to crankshaft, if removed.
With drift [outer diameter: approx. 35 mm (1.38 in)], press-fit
as far as it will go.
Press-fit pilot converter with its chamfering side facing crank-
shaft as shown in the figure.
It is possible to remove pilot converter without hoisting engine
with engine stand.
5. Install crankshaft to cylinder block.
While turning crankshaft by hand, make sure it turns smoothly.
6. Install main bearing caps.
Align the identification number to the journal position to install.
Install the upper side of the identification number facing the
front of engine. (The number shall be read correctly from the
rear of engine.)
Using plastic hammer or similar tool, tap them lightly to seat
them on the installation position.
NOTE:
Main bearing cap cannot be replaced as a single parts, because
it is machined together with cylinder block.

ADJUSTMENT AND SELECTION OF ADJUSTING WASHERS (SHIMS)
Differential Side Gear Clearance
Assemble the differential parts if they are disassembled. Refer to FFD-34, "Differential Assembly" .
1. Place differential case straight up so that side gear to be mea- sured comes upward.
2. Using feeler gauge, measure the clearance between side gear back and differential case at 3 different points, while rotating
side gear. Average the 3 readings, and then measure the clear-
ance of the other side as well.
CAUTION:
To prevent side gear from tilting, insert feeler gauges with
the same thickness from both sides.
3. If the back clearance is outside the specification, use a thicker/ thinner side gear thrust washer to adjust. Refer to FFD-39, "
Side
Gear Thrust Washer" .
CAUTION:
Select a side gear thrust washer for right and left individu-
ally.
Side Bearing Preload
1. Make sure all parts are clean. Also, make sure the bearings are well lubricated with gear oil.
2. Press-fit side bearing outer race into side retainer with tool.
CAUTION:
At first, using a hammer, tap bearing outer race until it
becomes flat to side retainer.
Do not reuse side bearing outer race.
PDIA0460E
Side gear back clearance specification:
0.2 mm (0.008 in) or less.
(Each gear should rotate smoothly without excessive
resistance during differential motion.)

Checking Fuel LinesNBS004IG
Inspect fuel lines, fuel filler cap and fuel tank for improper attach-
ment, leaks, cracks, damage, loose connections, chafing or deterio-
ration.
If necessary, repair or replace damaged parts.
General PrecautionsNBS004IH
WARNING:
When replacing fuel line parts, be sure to observe the following.
Put a “CAUTION: FLAMMABLE” sign in the workshop.
Be sure to work in a well ventilated area and furnish workshop with a CO2 fire extinguisher.
Do not smoke while servicing fuel system. Keep open flames and sparks away from the work area.
CAUTION:
Use gasoline required by the regulations for octane number. Refer to GI-6, "Precautions for Fuel
(Unleaded Premium Gasoline Recommended)" .
Before removing fuel line parts, carry out the following procedures:
–Put drained fuel in an explosion-proof container and put the lid on securely. Keep the container in
safe area.
–Release fuel pressure from the fuel lines. Refer to EC-86, "FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE" (VQ35DE)
or EC-746, "
FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE" (VK45DE).
–Disconnect negative battery terminal.
Always replace O-ring and clamps with new ones.
Do not kink or twist tubes when they are being installed.
Do not tighten hose clamps excessively to avoid damaging hoses.
After connecting fuel tube quick connectors, make sure
quick connectors are secure.
Ensure that connector and resin tube do not contact any
adjacent parts.
After installing tubes, make sure there is no fuel leakage at
connections in the following steps.
–Apply fuel pressure to fuel lines with turning ignition switch
“ON” (with engine stopped). Then check for fuel leaks at
connections.
–Start engine and rev it up and check for fuel leaks at con-
nections.
Use only a genuine NISSAN fuel filler cap as a replacement.
If an incorrect fuel filler cap is used, the “MIL” may come
on.
For servicing “Evaporative Emission System” parts, refer to
EC-39, "
EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM" (VQ35DE) or
