Sidelight auto cut (Not all models) If you do not turn the sidelight "OFF" after driving, the sidelight will automati-cally shut "OFF" when the driver's door is opened. To turn them "ON" again you mustsimply turn the ignition key to the "ON" position. SB220E1-E Headlight Flash
The headlights may be flashed by pull- ing the turn signal switch lever towards the steering wheel. The headlights will be extinguished when the switch isreleased.
SB220D1-E High And Low Beam To turn on the headlight high beams, push the lever forward (away from you). For low beams, pull the lever back(toward you). The appropriate headlight beam indicator light will come on at the same time.

WINDSCREEN WIPER/ WASHER SWITCH
SB230A1-E The windscreen wiper switch, depen- dent upon model, has three operating positions.
1.Intermittent wiper operation
(Not all models)
2.Low speed operation
3.High speed operation NOTE: To prevent damage to the wiper sys- tem, do not attempt to wipe away heavy accumulations of snow or ice. Accumulated snow and ice should be removed manually. If there is onlya light layer of snow or ice, operate the heater in the defrost mode to melt the snow or ice before using the wiper.

B360A01Y-GAT Rear Fog Light Switch To turn on the rear fog lights, push the switch. They will come on when the headlight switch is in the second posi- tion and the key is in the "ON" position.

To turn on the front fog lights, push the switch in the "ON" position. They will come on when the headlight switch is in the first or second position.
CAUTION:
The inside of the rear windscreenshould never be cleaned with a hard or sharp implement since damage to the heating element may occur. Theglass should only be cleaned with a soft cloth or chamois leather with the use only of a mild detergent or pro-prietary glass cleaner where neces- sary. Only horizontal movement of the cloth should be made when clean-ing the glass and care should be exercised to ensure that the heating elements are not damaged by ringsor jewellery whilst the glass is being cleaned. SB290A02-F For the cigar lighter to work, the key must be in the "ACC" or the "ON"position. To use the cigar lighter, push the lighter all the way into its socket. When theelement is heated, the lighter will pop out into the "ready" position. Do not hold the cigar lighter at thedepressed position which may result in damage to the vehicle wiring or an electrical fire.If it is necessary to replace the ciga- rette lighter, use only a genuine Hyundai replacement part.

B450B02FC-EAT Rear Drink Holder (Not all models) The rear drink holder is located on the rear main console for holding cups. The rear drink holder can be used by pushing the knob on the rear mainconsole downward and then releasing it.

SB380A1-E The parking brake must always be set when the vehicle is to be left unat-tended. When the parking brake is ap- plied, and the ignition key is at the "ON" position, the parking brake warning light will be illuminated. Before driving the vehicle, the parking brake must be fully released and the warning light extin- guished.
o To set the parking brake, apply thefoot brake and pull the parking brake lever up with the button depressed. Release the button when the brake is fully applied.
o To release the parking brake, apply

SB340B2-E Interior Light The interior courtesy light has a button of three positions. The three positions are:
oDR In the "DR" position, the interior cour- tesy light comes on when any door is opened regardless of the ignition key position. The light goes out when thedoor is closed.
oON In the "ON" position, the light stays on at all times.
2. Turn the hexagonal bolts with a socket
wrench counterclockwise to removethe front overhead console.
3. Insert the hexagonal head wrench
provided with the vehicle into thesocket. This wrench can be found in the vehicle's luggage room or glove box.

INTERIOR LIGHT
The two map lights are located at each side of the interior light. The lights may be operated by depress- ing the switch to turn on the light andpressing again to turn off the light. This light produces a spot beam for conve- nient use as a map light at night or asa personal light for the driver or the passenger.

o To close, lower the hatchback door, then press down on it until it isclosed. To be sure the hatchbackdoor is fully closed, always try to pull it up again without using the outside handle.

TO START THE ENGINEBEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE
C020A01O-EAT Before you start the engine, you should always:
1. Look around the vehicle to be sure
there are no flat tyres, puddles of oil or water or other indications of pos- sible trouble.
2. After entering the car check to be
sure the parking brake is engaged.
3. Check that all windows, and lights
are clean.
4. Check that the interior and exterior mirrors are clean and in position.
5. Check your seat, seatback and headrestraint to be sure they are intheir proper positions.
6. Close all doors.
7. Fasten your seat belt and be sure that all other occupants have fas-tened theirs.
8. Turn off all lights and accessories that are not needed. SC040A1-F COMBINATION IGNITION SWITCH AND STEERING LOCK
o If your Hyundai is equipped with a
manual transaxle, place the shift lever in neutral and depress the clutch pedal fully.
o If your Hyundai has an automatic
transaxle, place the shift lever in "P"(park).
o To start the engine, insert the ignition key and turn it to the "START" posi-tion. Release it as soon as the en- gine starts. Do not hold the key in the"START" position for more that 15 seconds.
NOTE: For safety, the engine will not start if the shift lever is not in "P" or "N" Position (automatic transaxle).
9. When you turn the ignition switch to
"ON" check that all appropriate warn- ing lights are operating and that you have sufficient fuel.
10.Check the operation of warning lights
and all bulbs when key is in the "ON"position.
WARNING (DIESEL ENGINE):
To ensure that sufficient vacuum ex- ists within the brake system during cold weather start-up conditions, it is necessary to run the engine at idle for several seconds after starting theengine.
