Petrol engine The engine oil and filter must be changed at the time or mileage inter-val specified in the maintenance sched- ule. If the vehicle is operated under severe or adverse conditions, the oiland filter must be replaced more fre- quently. To replace the oil and filter, proceed as follows:
1. Ensure that the engine is at normal operating temperature and park the vehicle on level ground with the parking brake securely applied andthe engine turned off.
2. Open the bonnet and remove the oil filler cap.
3. Prepare a suitable receptacle to collect the displaced oil and re-move the drain plug from the sump.
CAUTION:
The oil being drained from the en-gine will be hot. Care should beexercised to prevent scalding. 4. When the oil has drained from the
sump, replace the drain plug usinga new gasket ensuring that the plug is not over tightened.
5. Remove the oil filter by rotating counterclockwise, using a propri-etary oil filter removal tool if neces- sary. Note that the oil filter willcontain approximately 0.5 litres of oil and this should be collected in a suitable receptacle.
6. Install a new oil filter having smeared
the sealing ring with clean oil androtating clockwise until the filter contacts the mounting and then a further one half turn. Do not over-tighten Tightening torque: 2.3 ~ 2.5 kgf.m
7. Remove the engine oil level dip- stick.
8. Pour the specified quantity of the
recommended oil into the engine and replace the filler cap. Start the engine and ensure that no oil leaksexist. Turn off the engine and after a couple minutes, recheck the oil level.

The engine oil and filter should be
changed at those intervals specified in the maintenance schedule in Section 5. If the car is being driven in severe conditions, more frequent oil and filter changes are required.
The procedure for changing the oil and
filter is as follows:
1. Park the car on level ground and set the parking brake. Start the engine and let it warm up until the needle on the coolant temperature gauge moves above the lowest mark. Turn the engine off and place the gear selector lever in "P" (automatic) or reverse gear (manual transaxle). 2. Open the bonnet and remove the
engine oil level dipstick.
3. Loosen the oil filter upper cap with a proper tool from the oil filter housing until an O-ring is seen. Then, drainthe oil completely.
CAUTION:
Slowly loosen the oil filter uppercap not to overflow the oil.
!
!
CAUTION:
Slowly pour the recommended oil into a funnel. Do not overfill to prevent engine to damage.!
WARNING:
Prolonged and repeated contact with used engine oils may result in seri- ous skin disorders including der- matitis and cancer. Avoid contact with skin as far as possible andalways wash thoroughly after any contact. Keep used oils out of reach of children. It is illegal to pollutedrains, water courses and soil. Use only authorized waste collection facilities including civic amenitysites and garages for the disposal of used oil and oil filters. If in doubt, contact the local authority for dis-posal instructions.

the oil pan drain plug by turning it counterclockwise oil pan with a wrench of the proper size. Be surethat a drain pan is in position to catch the oil as it drains out, then remove the drain plug.
WARNING:
Be very careful when draining theengine oil as it may be hot enough to burn you!
6. When the oil has stopped draining, replace the drain plug using a new gasket and retighten by turning it clockwise. Oil pan drain plug tightening torque : 3.5 ~ 4.5 kgf.m
7. Pull out the oil filter upper cap with element from the oil filter housing.Using a clean cloth, remove any dirtor oil accumulated around the oilfilter housing. 8. After mounting a new centrepipe O-
ring, new oil filter element and newO-ring to upper cap, install the up- per cap to oil filter housing and retighten by turning it clockwise. Donot over-tighten. Tightening torque : 2.5 kgf.m
CAUTION:
Do not use old oil filter upper cap O- ring and centrepipe O-ring.
!
9. Refill the crankcase with the recom- mended engine oil. Refer to the specification in chapter 9 for engine oil capacity.
CAUTION:
Slowly pour the recommended oilinto a funnel. Do not overfill to preverd engine to camage.
! 10. Start the engine and check to be
sure no oil is leaking from the drain plug or oil filter.
11. Shut off the engine and recheck
the oil level.
NOTE:
o It is recommended that the en- gine oil and filter should be changed by an Hyundai authorised repairer.
o Always dispose of used engine oil in an environmentally accept-able manner. It is suggested that it be placed in a sealed container and taken to a service station formaybe reclaimation. Do not pour the oil on the ground or put it into the household trash.

CHECKING THE TRANSAXLE OIL
SG100A1-E
MANUAL TRANSAXLE LUBRI-CANT
The manual transaxle lubricant must
be checked and or changed at the intervals specified in the maintenanceschedule. Only those lubricants speci- fied should be used in order to prevent gear shifting difficulties or transaxledamage. WARNING:
The transaxle lubricant level should only be checked when the engine is cold to preclude the possibility ofpersonal injury by contact with hot components. Recommended Oil Use only HYUNDAI GENUINE PARTS
MTF 75W/85 (API GL-4) in the manual transaxle. Transaxle Lubricant Level Checking Ensure that the vehicle is parked on level ground with the parking brakefirmly applied and the engine cool. Remove the level plug from the transaxle when lubricant should beginto drip from the level hole. If the level is low and no lubricant is seen to drip, add the required quantity of lubricantand replace the plug.

G290A01FC-EAT Before performing aiming adjustment, make sure of the following.
1. Keep all tyres inflated to the correct pressure.
2. Place the vehicle on level ground and press the front bumper & rear bumper down several times. Place the vehicle at a distance of 118 in. (3,000 mm) from the test wall.
3. See that the vehicle is unloaded (except for full levels of coolant, engine oil and fuel, and spare tyre, jack, and tools).
4. Clean the head lights lens and turn on the headlight (Low beam).
!WARNING:
o Do not smoke or have any other open flame near the vehicle whilst bleeding the fuel system.
o Be sure to carefully wipe away any water drained out in thismanner, because the fuel mixed in the water might be ignited and result in a fire.
1. Loosen the drain plug at the bottomof the fuel filter.
2. Tighten the drain plug when water no longer comes out.
3. Check to be sure that the warning lamp illuminates when the ignition key is turned to "ON", and that it goes off when the engine is started. If in doubt, consult your nearest Hyundai authorised repairer.
