The engine oil and filter should be
changed at those intervals specified in the maintenance schedule in Sec- tion 5. If the car is being driven in severe conditions, more frequent oiland filter changes are required.
The procedure for changing the oil
and filter is as follows:
1. Park the car on level ground and
set the parking brake. Start the engine and let it warm up until the needle on the coolant temperature gauge moves above the lowestmark.
10. Shut off the engine and recheck
the oil level.
NOTE: Always dispose of used engine oil in an environmentally acceptable manner. It is suggested that it be placed in a sealed container andtaken to a service station for maybe reclaimation. Do not pour the oil on the ground or put it in with thehousehold trash.
6. Install a new oil filter in accordance
with the instructions on the cartonor on the filter itself. Do not over- tighten.
Oil filter tightening torque: 1.2~1.6kgf.m Be sure that the mounting surfaceon the engine is clean and that the old gasket is removed completely. Lubricate the new gasket on thefilter with clean engine oil before installation.
7. Remove the engine oil level dip- stick.
8. Refill the crankcase with the rec- ommended engine oil. Refer tothe specification in chapter 9 for engine oil capacity. WARNING:
Used motor oil may cause irrita-
tion or cancer of the skin if left incontact with the skin for prolonged periods of time. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warmwater as soon as possible after handling used oil.

! CAUTION:
Slowly pour the recommended oil into a funnel. Do not overfill not to damage the engine.
9. Start the engine and check to be sure no oil is leaking from the drain plug or oil filter.

!
Turn the engine off and place the gear selector lever in "P" (auto-matic) or reverse gear (manual transaxle).
2. Open the hood and remove the engine oil filler cap.
3. Slide underneath the car and loosen the drain plug by turning it counter-clockwise with a wrench of the proper size. Be sure that a drainpan is in position to catch the oil as it drains out, then remove the drain plug.
WARNING:
Be very careful when draining theengine oil as it may be hot enoughto burn you!
4. When the oil has stopped draining, replace the drain plug using a newgasket and retighten by turning itclockwise. Drain plug tightening torque: 3.5 ~ 4.5 kgf.m 8. Install a new copper washer of the
oil filter drain plug by the side oflower case and retighten by turn- ing it clockwise.
Tightening torque : 0.8~1.0 kgf.m
9. After mounting a new oil filter ele- ment and O-ring to upper cap, install the upper cap to lower case and retighten by turning it clock- wise. Do not over-tighten.
Tightening torque : 2.3~2.5 kgf.m
NOTE: Be careful not to be the element upside down when mounting the element.
10.Remove the engine oil level dip- stick.
11.Refill the crankcase with the rec- ommended engine oil. Refer to the specification in chapter 9 forengine oil capacity.
G040B01FC
5. Loosen the oil filter drain plug by turning it counterclockwise with a wrench of the proper size and drain out some oil in the oil filter. Be surethat a drain pan is in position to catch the oil.
6. Loosen the oil filter upper cap with a proper tool from the lower case until an O-ring is seen. Then, drainthe oil completely.
7. Pull out the oil filter upper cap with
element from the lower case.Using a clean cloth, remove anydirt or oil accumulated around thelower case.

WARNING:
Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. When the engine is hot, the engine coolantis under pressure and may erupt through the opening if the cap is removed. You could be seriouslyburned if you do not observe this precaution. Do not remove the radiator cap until the radiator iscool to the touch.
WARNING:
Used motor oil may cause irrita- tion or cancer of the skin if left in contact with the skin for prolongedperiods of time. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water as soon as possible afterhandling used oil.

12. Start the engine and check to be
sure no oil is leaking from thedrain plug or oil filter.
13.Shut off the engine and recheck the oil level.
NOTE:
o It is recommended that the en- gine oil and filter should bechanged by an authorized Hyundai dealer.
o Always dispose of used engine oil in an environmentally accept- able manner. It is suggested thatit be placed in a sealed con- tainer and taken to a service station for maybe reclaimation.Do not pour the oil on the ground or put it in with the household trash.

POWER STEERING HOSES
It is suggested that you check the
power steering hose connections for fluid leakage at regular intervals. The power steering hoses should be re-placed if there is severe surface crack- ing, scuffing or worn spots. Deteriora- tion of the hose could cause prema-ture failure.
To check the power steering fluid level,
be sure the ignition is "OFF", thencheck to make certain that the power steering fluid level is between the "MAX" and "MIN" level markings onthe fluid reservoir.
NOTE: Grinding noise from the power
steering pump may be heard im- mediately after the engine is startedin extremely cold conditions (be- low - 20°C). In this case, if the noise stops during warm up, thereis no abnormal function in the sys- tem. This is due to a power steer- ing fluid characteristic in extremelycold conditions. Recommended Fluid:
Use PSF-3 type fluidNOTE: Do not start the engine when the
power steering oil reservoir is empty. If the fuel filter warning lamp illumi-
nates during driving, it indicates that water has accumulated in the fuel filter. If this occurs, remove the water as described.

36HEADLIGHT AIMING ADJUSTMENT
G290A02E-GAT Before performing aiming adjustment,
make sure of the following.
1. Keep all tires inflated to the correct
pressure.
2. Place the vehicle on level ground and press the front bumper and rear bumper down several times.(Place the vehicle at a distance of 3,000 mm (118 in.) from the test wall.)
3. See that the vehicle is unloaded
(except for full levels of coolant, engine oil and fuel, and spare tire, jack, and tools). Have the driver or equivalent weight placed in driver'sseat.
4. Clean the head lights lenses and
turn on the headlights (low beam).
!WARNING:
Be sure to carefully wipe away any water drained out in this manner, because the fuel mixed in the wa-ter might be ignited and result in a fire.
G300B01A
1. Loosen the drain plug at the bottom of the fuel filter.
2. Tighten the drain plug when water no longer comes out.
3. Check to be sure that the warning lamp illuminates when the ignition key is turned to "ON", and that it goes off when the engine is started. If in doubt, consult your nearest authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
NOTE: It is recommended that water ac- cumulated in the fuel filter shouldbe removed by an authorized Hyundai dealer.
