To Check the Transaxle Fluid Level
1.6/2.0L 2.7L
The automatic transaxle fluid level should be checked regularly. Keep the vehicle on level ground with the parking brake applied and check the fluid level according to the follow-ing procedure.
1. Place the shift lever in N(neutral) position and confirm the engine isrunning at idle speed.
2. After the transaxle is warmed up
sufficiently [fluid temperature70~80°C (158~176°F)], for example by 10 minutes usual driving, move the shift lever through all positionsthen place the shift lever in N(neutral) or P(park) position. 3. Confirm if the fluid level is in the
“HOT” range on the level gauge. Ifthe fluid level is lower, add the specified fluid from the fill hole. If the fluid level is higher, drain the fluid from the drain hole.
4. If the fluid level is checked in cold condition[fluid temperature 20~30°C(68~86°F)], add the fluid to the“COLD” line and then recheck the fluid level according to the above step 2.

The cooling fan is controlled by engine coolant temperature andmay sometimes operate even when the engine is not running. Use extreme caution when workingnear the blades of the cooling fan, so that you are not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the enginecoolant temperature decreases, the fan will automatically shut off. This is a normal condition.

CHECKING ELECTRIC COOLING FANS

WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by engine coolant temperature and may sometimes operate even whenthe engine is not running. Use extreme caution when working near the blades of the coolant fan,so that you are not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the coolant temperature decreases the fan willautomatically shut off. This is a normal condition.
Keep batteries out of the reach of children because batteries contain highly corrosive SULFURIC ACID.Do not allow battery acid to contact your skin, eyes, clothing or paint finish.If any electrolyte gets intoyour eyes, flush your eyeswith clean water for at least 15 minutes and get imme- diate medical attention. Ifpossible, continue to ap- ply water with a sponge or cloth until medical atten-tion is received.If electrolyte gets on yourskin, thoroughly wash thecontacted area.If you feel a pain or a burn-ing sensation, get medi- cal attention immediately. Wear eye protection when charging or working near a battery. Always provide ventilation when working in an en- closed space.o When lifting a plastic-cased bat- tery, excessive pressure on the case may cause battery acid toleak, resulting in personal in- jury. Lift with a battery carrier or with your hands on oppositecorners.
o Never attempt to charge the bat- tery when the battery cables are connected.
o The electrical ignition system works with high voltage. Never touch these componentswith the engine running or the ignition switched on.

POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL
The power steering fluid level should
be checked regularly.
To check the power steering fluid
level, be sure the ignition is "OFF", then check to make certain that the power steering fluid level is betweenthe "MAX" and "MIN" level markings on the fluid reservoir. NOTE:
o Grinding noise from the power
steering pump may be heard im- mediately after the engine is started in extremely cold condi- tions (below - 20°C). If the noisestops during warm up, there is no abnormal function in the sys- tem. It is due to a power steeringfluid characteristic in extremely cold conditions.
o Do not start the engine when the power steering oil reservoir isempty.

The positive crankcase ventilation system is employed to prevent air pollution caused by blow-by gases being emitted from the crankcase.This system supplies fresh air to the crankcase through the air cleaner. Inside the crankcase, the fresh airmixes with blow-by gases, then passes through the PCV valve into the induction system.

3. Exhaust Emission Control
System
The exhaust emission control system is a highly effective system which controls exhaust emissions while maintaining good vehicle performace.
Canister While the engine is inoperative, fuel vapors generated inside the fuel tank are absorbed and stored in the canis-ter. When the engine is running, the fuel vapors absorbed in the canister are drawn into the induction systemthrough the purge control solenoid valve. Purge Control Solenoid Valve The purge control solenoid valve is controlled by the ECM; when the en- gine coolant temperature is low, and during idling, it closes, so that evapo- rated fuel is not taken into the engine. After engine warm-up, during ordi-nary driving, it opens so as to intro- duce evaporated fuel to the engine.

SB210S1-E BRAKE PAD WEAR INDICATOR The front brake disc pads are fitted with an audible wear indicator whichwill cause a high pitched noise to be emitted when the remaining amount of friction lining is below the specifiedvalue. When the wear indicator is heard, the brake pads should be replaced without delay to avoid damage occur-ring to the brake discs and a severe reduction in braking efficiency. SB215A2-E FUEL GAUGE The fuel gauge indicates the quantity of fuel remaining in the fuel tank. NOTE:
o The fuel gauge is not intended to
give other than an approximate indication of the fuel level and isunsuitable for the purposes of cal- culating fuel consumption figures.
o The "

YC200B2-E Trailer Towbars Select the proper towbar and ball com- bination, making sure that its location is compatible with that of the trailer or vehicle being towed.Use a quality non-equalizing towbar which distributes the nose weight uni- formly throughout the chassis. The towbar should be bolted securely to the car and installed by a qualifiedtechnician.
CAUTION:
o Never connect a trailer brake sys- tem directly to the vehicle brakesystem.
o When towing a trailer on steep grades (in excess of 6%) pay closeattention to the engine coolanttemperature gauge to ensure the engine does not overheat. If the needle of the coolant temperaturegauge moves across the dial to- wards "H" (HOT), pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so,and allow the engine to idle until it cools down. You may proceed once the engine has cooled suffi-ciently.
