B020B01FC-GAT During the First 1,000 Km (600 Miles) (Diesel Engine) No formal "break-in" procedure is re- quired with your new Hyundai. How- ever, you can contribute to the eco- nomical operation and durability of your Hyundai by observing the following rec- ommendations during the first 1,000km (600 miles).
o While driving, keep your engine speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute) within 3,000 rpm.
o While driving, keep under three quar- ters of maximum speed.
o Use moderate acceleration. Don't
start, depress the accelerator pedal fully.
o For the first 300 km (200 miles), try
to avoid hard stops. B030A01A-AAT For greater convenience, the same key operates all the locks in your Hyundai. However, because the doors can be locked without a key, carrying a sparekey is recommended in case you acci- dentally lock one key inside the car.
o Don't lug the engine (in other words,
don't drive so slowly in too-high a gear that the engine "bucks": shift to a lower gear).
o Whether going fast or slow, vary your speed from time to time.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than 3
minutes at one time.
o Don't tow a trailer during the first 1,000 km (600 miles) of operation.

5IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM
B030B01A-AAT Record Your Key Number
A code number is stamped on the number plate that came with the keys to your Hyundai. This key number plate should not be left with the keys but keptin a safe place, not in the vehicle. The key number should also be recorded in a place where it can be found in anemergency. If you need additional keys, or if you should lose your keys, your authorized Hyundai dealer can make new keys if you can supply the key number. B880A01A-GAT (If Installed) The immobilizer system is an anti-theft device, designed to deter automobiletheft. B880B04A-GAT Keys All of the locks fitted to the vehicle are operated by the same key. However, since it is possible to lock the doorswithout the use of the key, care should be exercised to ensure that the key does not become locked inside thevehicle by mistake. NOTE: If you make your own duplicate key, you will not be able to cancel the system or start the engine.

The vehicle key number is recorded upon a metal tag attached to the keyswhen the vehicle is first delivered to you.

CAUTION:

! o When starting the engine, do not
use the key with other immobi- lizer keys around. Otherwise the engine may not start or may stop soon after it starts.Keep each keys separately not to have any malfunction after you receive your new vehicle.

NOTE: You can get the limp home pass- word when the vehicle is first deliv- ered to you. If you do not have thepassword, consult your authorized Hyundai dealer.
1. To set the password you may turn
the ignition key "ON" and then turn it "OFF" according to the digit num-bers, then the immobilizer indicator will blink along with the operation of the ignition key. For example, turnthe ignition key once for digit number "1", and twice for "2", and so on. However, for the digit number "0",you must turn the ignition key for 10 times.
2. Wait for 3~10 seconds.
3. You may set the remaining number of digits by following the same proce-dures 1 and 2.
4. If all of four digits have been tried successfully, turn the ignition key"ON" and check that the immobilizerindicator illuminates. From this time, you have to start your engine within 30 seconds. If you start your engineafter 30 seconds, your engine will not start.
B880D02A-GAT Limp Home Procedures In case the immobilizer warning indica- tor blinks for five seconds when the ignition key is turned to "ON" position, this indicates that the immobilizer sys-tem is out of order. And you cannot start the engine without the limp home proce- dures with ignition key.The following procedure is how to start the engine with the function of the limp home. (0, 1, 2, 3 as a sample pass-word).

In the interest of security, the metal tag attached to the keys which bears thekey number should be removed from the key ring after you receive your new vehicle. In addition, key numbers can-not be provided by Hyundai for security reasons. If you need additional keys or if youshould lose your keys, your authorized Hyundai dealer can make new keys.

NOTE: If the engine dies while driving after limp home procedure, you can start your engine within 8 seconds with-out limp home procedure again.
5. If the immobilizer indicator blinks for five seconds, you have to try the limp home procedure again from the beginning.
After doing the limp home procedure,you have to consult with your autho-rized Hyundai dealer as soon as pos- sible.
! CAUTION:
o If you fail to try the limp home procedure with the sequence of three times, you have to wait for about one hour to do the limp home procedure again.
o If you cannot start your engine in spite of limp home procedure, haveyour vehicle towed by an autho-rized Hyundai dealer.

Locking and Unlocking Front Doors With a Key
WARNING:
o Unlocked doors can be danger- ous. Before you drive away (espe- cially if there are children in the car), be sure that all the doors are securely closed and locked sothat the doors cannot be inadvert- ently opened from the inside. This helps ensure that the doors willnot be opened accidentally. Also, when combined with the proper use of seat belts, locking the doors helps keep occupants from being ejected from the car incase of an accident.
o Before opening the door, always
look for and avoid oncoming traf-fic.
o In case of accident, the door is
unlocked automatically (If In-stalled). o The door can be locked or unlocked
with a key.
o Lock the door by turning the key
toward the front of the vehicle and unlock it by turning the key toward the rear.

B040D01FC-GAT Locking From the Inside To lock the doors from the inside, sim- ply close the door and push the lock switch to the "LOCK" position. Whenthis is done, neither the outside nor the inside door handle can be used.B040E03A-AAT Child-protector Rear Door Lock (If Installed) Your Hyundai is equipped with a "child- protector" rear door lock assembly.When the lock mechanism is engaged, the rear door cannot be opened from the inside. Its use is recommended when-ever there are small children in the rear seat.
NOTE: When the door is locked, the red mark on the switch is not visible and the character "LOCK" on the switchis visible.

B040C04A-AAT Locking From the Outside The doors can be locked without a key. To lock the doors, first push the inside lock switch to the "LOCK" position sothat the red mark on the switch is not visible, then close the door. NOTE:
o If your vehicle is equipped with
central door locking system, the door will not lock if the key is leftin the ignition switch when the front doors close.
o When locking the door this way, be careful not to lock the door withthe ignition key left in the vehicle.
HLC2008 o To protect against theft, always
remove the ignition key, close all windows, and lock all doors and the trunk lid(4 Door)/tail gate(3/5 Door) when leaving your vehicleunattended.

9THEFT-ALARM SYSTEM
To engage the child-protector feature so the door cannot be opened from theinside, move the child-protector lever to the " " position and close the door. Move the lever to the " " positionwhen normal door operation is desired. If you wish to be able to open the door from the outside, the outside door handle will function normally. B040G02A-GAT Central Door Lock (If Installed)
B040G01A The central door locking is operated by pushing the driver's door lock switchtoward the front or rear of the vehicle. If the passenger and rear doors are open when the switch is pushed, the door willremain locked when closed. NOTE:
o When pushing the switch toward
the rear, all doors will unlock. When pushing the switch toward the front, all doors will lock.
o When the door is unlocked, the red mark on the switch is visibleand the character "LOCK" on the switch is not visible.
o The central door locking is oper- ated by turning the key (with theft-alarm system: driver's door andpassenger's door, without theft- alarm system: driver's door only) toward the front or rear of thevehicle. B070A01A-AAT (If Installed) This system is designed to provide protection from unauthorized entry intothe car. This system is operated in three stages: the first is the "Armed" stage, the second is the "Alarm" stage,and the third is the "Disarmed" stage. If triggered, the system provides an au- dible alarm with blinking of the turnsignal lights.

B070C04A-GAT Alarm Stage The alarm will be activated if any of the following occurs while the car is parkedand the system is armed.
1) A door or tail gate (3/5 Door) isopened without using the transmit- ter.
2) The trunk lid (4 Door) is opened without using the key.
3) The engine hood is opened. The alarming horn will sound and the turn signal lights will blink continuously for 27 seconds (E.C only/ Except E.C :This happens 3 times). To turn off the system, unlock the door or tail gate with the transmitter.
NOTE:
1) If any door, trunk lid (4 Door)/tail gate (3/5 Door) or engine hood remains open, the system will notbe armed. If this happens, rearm the system as described above.
2) Once the system is armed, only the trunk lid (4 Door) may be un-locked using the ignition key with-out disarming the system.

Park the car and stop the engine. Arm the system as described below.
1) Remove the ignition key from the ignition switch.
2) Make sure that the engine hood and
trunk lid (4 Door)/tail gate (3/5 Door) are closed and latched.
3) Lock the doors using the transmitter
of the keyless entry system.
After completion of the steps above,the turn signal lights will blink once toindicate that the system is armed. CAUTION:
Do not arm the system until all pas- sengers have left the car. If the sys- tem is armed while a passenger(s)remains in the car, the alarm may be activated when the remaining passenger(s) leaves the car.
