B970C01NF-GAT Automatic Operation The FATC (Full Automatic Tempera- ture Control) system automatically con- trols heating and cooling by doing as follows:
1. Push the "AUTO" switch. The indi-
cator light will illuminate confirming that the Face, Floor and/or Bi-Level modes as well as the blower speed and air conditioner will be controlledautomatically. 2. Turn the "TEMP" knob to set the
desired temperature.The temperature will increase to the maximum 32°C(90°F) by turning the knob clockwise.The temperature will decrease to the minimum 17°C(62°F) by turning the knob counterclockwise.
NOTE: If the battery has been discharged or disconnected, the temperature modewill reset to Centigrade degrees. This is a normal condition and you can change the temperature modefrom Centigrade to Fahrenheit as follows; Press the "OFF" and "AUTO " switch simultaneously for 3 seconds.The display shows that the unit of temperature is adjusted to Centigrade or Fahrenheit (°C

B980B01NF-AAT Fan Speed Control The fan speed can be set to the desired speed by turning the fan speed control knob. The higher the fan speed is, themore air is delivered. Pressing the "OFF" switch turns off the fan. With the "Fresh" mode selected, air enters the vehicle from the outside andis heated or cooled according to the function selected. With the "Recirculation" mode selected, air from within the passenger compart- ment will be drawn through the heatingsystem and heated or cooled according to the function selected. NOTE: It should be noted that prolonged operation of the heating system in "recirculation" mode will give rise to fogging of the windshield and sidewindows and the air within the pas- senger compartment will become stale. In addition, prolonged use ofthe air conditioning with the "Recir- culation" mode selected may result in the air within the passenger com-partment becoming excessively dry.

C160C01A-AAT Use High Quality Ethylene Glycol Coolant Your Hyundai is delivered with high quality ethylene glycol coolant in the cooling system. It is the only type ofcoolant that should be used because it helps prevent corrosion in the cooling system, lubricates the water pump andprevents freezing. Be sure to replace or replenish your coolant in accor- dance with the maintenance schedule CAUTION:
Don't use the tire chains in 185/55R15 tire to prevent body damage.
! C160G01A-GAT To Keep Locks from Freezing To keep the locks from freezing, squirt an approved de-icer fluid or glycerine into the key opening. If a lock is cov- ered with ice, squirt it with an approvedde-icing fluid to remove the ice. If the lock is frozen internally, you may be able to thaw it out by using a heatedkey. Handle the heated key with care to avoid injury. NOTE: The proper temperature for using the immobilizer key is from -40°C (-40°F) to 80°C(176°F). If you heat the immobilizer key over 80°C(176°F) to open the frozen lock, it may cause damage to the transpon- der in its head.
C160F01A-AAT Check Spark Plugs and Ignition System Inspect your spark plugs as described in Section 6 and replace them if neces-sary. Also check all ignition wiring and components to be sure they are not cracked, worn or damaged in any way.
C160D01A-AAT Check Battery and Cables Winter puts additional burdens on the battery system. Visually inspect the battery and cables as described inSection 6. The level of charge in your battery can be checked by your Hyun- dai dealer or a service station. C160E01A-AAT Change to "Winter Weight" Oil if Necessary In some climates it is recommended that a lower viscosity "winter weight" oil be used during cold weather. SeeSection 9 for recommendations. If you aren't sure what weight oil you should use, consult your Hyundai dealer.

IF THE ENGINE OVERHEATS
D030A02TB-AAT If your temperature gauge indicates overheating, you experience a loss of power, or hear loud pinging or knock- ing, the engine is probably too hot. Ifthis happens to you, you should:
1. Pull off the road and stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
2. Place the gear selector lever in "P"
(automatic), or neutral (manual transaxle) and set the parking brake. If the air conditioning is on, turn it off.
3. If engine coolant is running out un- der the car or steam is coming outfrom the hood, stop the engine. Donot open the hood until the engine coolant has stopped running or the steaming has stopped. If there is novisible loss of engine coolant and no steam, leave the engine running and check to be sure the enginecooling fan is operating. If the fan is not running, turn the engine off.
5. Start the engine in the car with the
discharged battery using the nor- mal starting procedure. After the engine starts, leave the jumper cables connected and let the enginerun at fast idle or about 2,000 rpm for several minutes.
6. Carefully remove the jumper cables in the reverse order of attachment.
If you do not know why your battery became discharged (because the lights were left on, etc.), have the charging system checked by your Hyundaidealer. 4. Check to see if the water pump drive
belt is missing. If it is not missing,check to see that it is tight. If the drive belt seems to be satisfactory, check for coolant leaking from theradiator, hoses or under the car. (If the air conditioning had been in use, it is normal for cold water to bedraining from it when you stop).
WARNING:
While the engine is running, keephair, hands, and clothing away from moving parts such as the fan and drive belts to prevent injury.

SPARE TIRE
WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system with engine running or within 30 sec- onds after shutting off engine. High pressure pump, rail, injectors andhigh pressure pipes are subject to high pressure even after the engine stopped. The fuel jet produced byfuel leaks may cause serious in- jury, if it touch the body. People using pacemakers should not movethan 30cm closer to the ECU or wiring harness within the engine room while engine is running, sincethe high currents in the Common Rail system produce considerable magnetic fields. WARNING:
Do not remove the radiator cap whenthe engine is hot. This can allowcoolant to be blown out of the open- ing and cause serious burns.
6. If you cannot find the cause of the overheating, wait until the engine temperature has returned to nor-mal. Then, if the engine coolant has been lost, carefully add coolant to the reservoir (Page 6-14) to bringthe fluid level in the reservoir up to the halfway mark.
7. Proceed with caution, keeping alert
for further signs of overheating. Ifoverheating happens again, call a Hyundai dealer for assistance.

5. If the water pump drive belt is bro-
ken or coolant is leaking out, stop the engine immediately and call the nearest Hyundai dealer for assis- tance. D040A03A-GAT The following instructions for the FULL SIZE spare tire should be observed: Check inflation pressure as soon as practical after installing the spare tire, and adjust to the specified pressure. The tire pressure should be periodi-cally checked and maintained at the specified pressure while the tire is stored.

Inspect the surface of hoses for evi-dence of heat and/or mechanical dam- age. Hard and brittle rubber, cracking, tears, cuts, abrasions, and excessiveswelling indicate deterioration. Partic- ular attention should be paid to exam- ine those hose surfaces nearest tohigh heat sources, such as the ex- haust manifold. Inspect the hose routing to assure that the hoses do not come in contact with any heat source, sharp edges or moving component which might causeheat damage or mechanical wear. Inspect all hose connections, such as clamps and couplings, to make surethey are secure, and that no leaks are present. Hoses should be replaced immediately if there is any evidenceof deterioration or damage.
