PARKING ON FLAMMABLE MATERIAL
While working, the catalyst develops a very high temperature. Do not park the car over grass, dry
leaves, pine needles or any other inflammable materials: risk of fire.
MUST BE READ!
ENGINE START-UP
Petrol engines with mechanical gearbox:make sure that the handbrake is engaged; set the
gearshift lever to neutral; fully depress the clutch without pressing the accelerator, then turn the
ignition key to AVVand release it as soon as the engine has started.
Diesel engines:make sure that the handbrake is engaged; set the gearshift lever to neutral; fully
depress the clutch without pressing the accelerator; turn the ignition key to MARand wait for the
mwarning light to go off; turn the ignition key to AVVand release it as soon as the engine has
started.
REFUELLING
Petrol engines:only refuel with unleaded petrol with octane rating (RON) not less than 95
conforming to the European specification EN228.
Diesel engines:only refuel with diesel fuel conforming to the European specification EN590.
Using other products or mixtures may damage the engine beyond repair and cause the forfeiture of the
warranty cover for caused damages as a consequence.

USING THE MANUAL GEARBOX
To engage gears, press down the clutch and shift the gear lever into one
of the positions shown (the diagram is also shown on the gear lever
knob).
To engage reverse (R), wait until the car has stopped and, from neutral
move the gear lever to the right and back.
IMPORTANT The car can only be put into reverse gear when it has
stopped moving completely. With the engine running, before engaging the
reverse, wait at least 2 seconds with the clutch pedal fully down to
prevent damaging and grating the gears.
P0E0243m
Do not drive with your hand resting on the gear lever as the force exerted, even if slight, could lead
over time to premature wear on the gearbox internal components.
To change gears properly you must push the clutch pedal fully down. It is therefore
essential that there is nothing under the pedals: make sure mats are lying flat and
do not get in the way of the pedals.WARNING

JUMP STARTING
If the battery is flat, it is possible to start the engine using an auxiliary
battery with the same capacity or a little higher than the flat one.
Proceed as follows:
❒Connect positive terminals (+) of the two batteries with a jump lead.
❒With a second lead, connect the negative terminal (-) of the auxiliary
battery to an earth point
Eon the engine or the gearbox of the car to
be started.
IMPORTANT Do not directly connect the negative terminals of the two
batteries: any sparks may ignite the detonating gas which could come out
of the battery. If the auxiliary battery is installed on another car, avoid
metal parts touching accidentally between this car and the one with the
flat battery.
❒Start the engine.
❒When the engine has been started, remove the leads reversing the
order above.
If after a few attempts the engine does not start, do not insist but contact
the nearest Fiat Dealership.
F0E0670m
Never use a battery charger to start the engine as this could damage the electronic systems of your
vehicle, particularly the ignition and fuel supply control units.
WARNINGThis starting procedure must be carried out by qualified personnel because
incorrect operations may cause electrical discharge of considerable intensity. The
liquid contained in the battery is poisonous an corrosive. Avoid contact with the
skin and eyes. Keep naked flames and lighted cigarettes away from the battery and
do not cause sparks.

USE OF THE CAR UNDER
HEAVY CONDITIONS
Should prevailing use of the car be under one of the
following specially heavy conditions:
❒trailer or caravan towing;
❒dusty roads;
❒short distances (less than 7-8 km) and repeated
with external temperatures below zero;
❒frequently idling engines or long distance low
speed driving (e.g.: door-to-door deliveries) or in
case of a long term inactivity;
❒urban routes;carry out checks more frequently than required on
Service Schedule:
❒check front disk brake pad conditions and wear;
❒check cleanness of bonnet and boot locks and
lever cleanness and lubrication;
❒sight inspect the conditions of: engine, gearbox,
transmission, pipes and hoses (exhaust - fuel -
brakes), rubber parts (boots, sleeves, bushes, etc.);
❒check battery charge and fluid level (electrolyte);
❒visual check on various drive belt conditions;
❒check and replace pollen filter, if required;
❒check and replace air cleaner, if required.
