34 The handle recesses on the interior trim of the
luggage compartment lid make it easier to pull
down.
Emergency release
Pull lever in luggage compartment. The lug-
gage compartment lid is unlocked.
Manual release
If an electrical malfunction should occur, you
can unlock the luggage compartment lid manu-
ally.
1.Grasp the rear seat1 at the front edge and
remove from the mounts2. Take out the
rear seat.2.Pull the ring. The luggage compartment lid
is unlocked and opens.
Only grasp the emergency release by
the ring, otherwise injuries can
occur.<
Reinstalling rear seat:
1.Position the rear seat in the vehicle. Guide
the two outer belt buckles3 through the
seat bench and slide the seat bench com-
pletely under the backrest. The middle belt
buckle4 must be guided between the seat
bench and the backrest when doing so.
Do not twist the center belt buckle, as
otherwise correct operation of this
safety equipment is not ensured.<
2.Press the rear seat downward into the
mounts at the front until it audibly engages.

Under the hood
Never attempt to perform any service or
repair operations on your vehicle without
the required professional technical training.
If you do not know what repair procedures to
follow, have work on your vehicle done only by
your BMW center or a workshop that works
according to BMW repair procedures with cor-
respondingly trained personnel. If this work is
not carried out properly, there is a danger of
subsequent damage and related safety haz-
ards.<
Hood
Releasing
Pull lever.
Opening
Press the release handle and open the hood.
You cannot start off with the hood open.<
Closing
Close the hood from a height of approx. 16 in/
40 cm with momentum. It must be clearly heard
to engage.
Make sure that the closing path of the
hood is clear, otherwise injuries may
result.
If you see any signs that the hood is not com-
pletely closed while driving your vehicle, you
should stop at once and close it securely.<
