This should be taken simply for an example. It is necessary to set the carburetor while checking
the operating conditions of the engine.

Sekundärübersetzung (Kettenrad) auswäh-
len
därübersetzung>
Im allgemeinen wird für einen schnellen Kurs
mit langen Geraden eine kleinere Sekun-
därübersetzung gewählt und für einen kur-
venreichen Kurs eine größere
Sekundärübersetzung gewählt. Vor dem
Rennen sollte die Strecke allerdings stets
testgefahren werden, um die Maschine auf
die geltenden Gesamtbedingungen abzu-
stimmen.
Es ist selten möglich, eine Einstellung zu
erzielen, die optimal auf den gesamten Kurs
ausgelegt ist. Die Einstellung sollte sich des-
halb auf den wichtigsten Bereich der Strecke
konzentrieren. Bei der Einstellung der
Sekundärübersetzung sollte jeweils die
gesamte Strecke abgefahren und die Run-
denzeiten notiert werden.
Enthält der Kurs eine lange Gerade, auf der
die Höchstgeschwindigkeit erreichbar ist,
sollte die Übersetzung so gewählt werden,
daß die Maschine gegen Ende der Geraden
die Höchstgeschwindigkeit ohne Überdrehen
des Motors erreicht.
HINWEIS:
Die Leistung einer Maschine hängt sowohl von
der Maschine als auch vom Fahrer ab. Es ist
daher wesentlich sinnvoller, seine eigenen
Einstellungen zu erarbeiten als diejenigen
anderer Fahrer zu übernehmen. Sekun-

Il est généralement admis que le rapport de
démultiplication de la transmission secondaire
doit être réduit pour une course de vitesse com-
prenant de longues portions en ligne droite et
qu’il convient de l’augmenter en cas de course
sur circuit comprenant de nombreux virages.
Dans la pratique toutefois, la vitesse dépendant
des conditions du terrain le jour de la course, on
veillera à effectuer des tours de circuit afin de
régler la machine du mieux possible pour la
course.
En pratique, il est très difficile d’effectuer des
réglages convenant parfaitement à un terrain
donné et il faudra en sacrifier quelques-uns. Il
convient de régler la machine en fonction de la
partie du circuit la plus importante pour le résultat
final de la course. Dans ce cas, on effectuera des
essais sur la totalité du circuit, en notant les temps
intermédiaires pour les différentes parties du cir-
cuit afin de calculer la moyenne et déterminer le
taux de réduction secondaire.
Si le parcours comprend de longues lignes droi-
tes, régler la machine de manière qu’elle four-
nisse des performances maximales vers la fin des
lignes droites, tout en évitant un surrégime du
moteur.
N.B.:
Chaque motocycliste a sa propre technique de con-
duite et les performances varient elles aussi d’une
moto à l’autre. On évitera donc de copier les régla-
ges d’une autre moto et chacun effectuera ses pro-
pres réglages en fonction de sa technique

Front fork setting
The front fork setting should be made depend-
ing on the rider’s feeling of an actual run and
the circuit conditions.
The front fork setting includes the following
three factors:
1. Setting of air spring characteristics
Change the fork oil amount.
2. Setting of spring preload
Change the spring.
Install the adjustment washer.
3. Setting of damping force
Change the compression damping.
Change the rebound damping.
The spring acts on the load and the
damping force acts on the cushion travel
speed.

Damping characteristic near the final stroke
can be changed by changing the fork oil
amount.
CAUTION:
Adjust the oil amount in 5 cm
3 (0.2 Imp oz,
0.2 US oz) increments or decrements. Too
small oil amount causes the front fork to
produce a noise at full rebound or the rider
to feel some pressure on his hands or
body. Alternatively, too large oil amount
will develop unexpectedly early oil lock
with the consequent shorter front fork
travel and deteriorated performance and
characteristics. Therefore, adjust the front
fork within the specified range.
