To lock and unlock all the doors, push
the switches of the wireless remote
control key slowly and securely.
To lock: Push the lock switch. The side
doors and back door are locked simulta-
neously. At this time, the turn signal lights
will flash once.
Check to see that the side doors and
back door are securely locked.
If any of the doors is not securely closed,
or if the key is in the ignition switch,
locking cannot be performed by the lock
switch.
To unlock: Push the unlock switch once to
unlock the driver ’s door alone. Pushing
the switch twice within 3 seconds unlocks
all the doors simultaneously. Each time
the unlock switch is pushed, the turn sig-
nal lights will flash twice.
When the unlock switch is pressed, the
interior lights and ignition switch light
come on. The lights remain on for about
15 seconds unless any of the doors is
opened and then closed. (For further infor-
mation, see “Interior lights” on page 82
and “Ignition switch light” on page 83.)You have 30 seconds to open a door after
using the wireless remote unlock feature.
If a door is not opened by then, all the
doors will be automatically locked again.
If the lock or unlock switch is kept
pressed in, the locking or unlocking opera-
tion is not repeated. Release the switch
and then push it again.

Pushing the panic switch for 1 second
blows the horn intermittently and
flashes the headlights, tail lights and
emergency flashers and turns on the
interior light.
The panic switch is used to deter vehicle
theft when you witness anyone attempting
to break into or damage your vehicle.
The panic mode will last for one minute.
To stop the panic mode midway, do the
following:
Push any switch on the key.
Turn the ignition key from the “LOCK”
to “ON” position.
The panic mode does not work when the
ignition key is in the “ON” position.

When the side doors and back door are
unlocked simultaneously using either the
key or the wireless remote control func-
tion, the interior lights and ignition switch
light will come on and remain on for about
15 seconds before fading out. (For further
information, see “Interior lights” on page
82 and “Ignition switch light” on page 83.)

LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WITH
INSIDE LOCK KNOB
Move the lock knob.
To lock: Push the knob forward.
To unlock: Pull the knob backward.
The side doors can be opened by pulling
the inside handle even if the lock knobs
are in the locked position.
CAUTION
Do not pull the inside handle of the
side doors while driving. The doors
will open and an accident may occur.
Scion strongly recommends that all
children be placed in the rear seat of
the vehicle.
Closing the door with the lock knob in the
lock position will also lock the door. Be
careful not to lock your keys in the ve-
hicle.
The side doors cannot be locked if you
leave the key in the ignition switch.

Power windows

The windows can be operated with the
switch on each door.
The power windows work when the ignition
switch is in the “ON” position.
OPERATING THE DRIVER’S WINDOW
Use the switch on the driver’s door.
Normal operation: The window moves as
long as you hold the switch.
To open: Lightly push down the switch.
To close: Lightly pull up the switch.

Automatic operation: Push the switch
completely down or pull it completely up,
and then release it. The window will fully
open or close. To stop the window part-
way, lightly move the switch in the oppo-
site direction and then release it.
Jam protection function: During automat-
ic closing operation, the window stops and
opens halfway if something gets caught
between the window and body.
If the window receives a strong impact,
this function may work even if nothing is

OPERATING THE PASSENGER’S
WINDOW
Use the switch on the passenger ’s
door. The driver ’s door also has a
switch that controls the passenger ’s
window.
Normal operation: The window moves as
long as you hold the switch.
To open: Lightly push down the switch.
To close: Lightly pull up the switch.
If you push in the window lock switch on
the driver ’s door, the passenger ’s window
cannot be operated.
The indicator lights on the switch tell you
which of the switches can be operated.
Automatic operation: Push the switch
completely down or pull it completely up,
and then release it. The window will fully
open or close. To stop the window part-
way, lightly move the switch in the oppo-
site direction and then release it.
Jam protection function: During automat-
ic closing operation, the window stops and
opens halfway if something gets caught
between the window and body.
If the window receives a strong impact,
this function may work even if nothing is
caught.CAUTION
To avoid serious personal injury, you
must do the following.
Before you close the power win-
dows, always make sure there is
nobody around the power windows.
You must also make sure the
heads, hands and other parts of the
bodies of all occupants are kept
completely inside the vehicle. If
someone’s neck, head or hands get
caught in a closing window, it
could result in death or serious in-
jury. When anyone closes the power
windows, make sure he or she op-
erates the windows safely.
When small children are in the ve-
hicle, never let them use the power
window switches without supervi-
sion. Use the window lock switch to
prevent them from making unex-
pected use of the switches.
Be sure to remove the ignition key
when you leave your vehicle.
Never leave anyone (particularly a
small child) alone in your vehicle,
especially with the ignition key still
inserted. Otherwise, he/she could
use the power window switches and
get trapped in a window. Unat-
tended person (particularly a small
child) can be involved in a serious
accident.
Never try jamming any part of your
body to activate the jam protection
function intentionally.
The jam protection function may
not work if something gets caught
just before the window is fully
closed.
If the battery is disconnected or run
down
The power window may not operate auto-
matically and the jam protection function
will not function correctly after you recon-
nect, replace or recharge the battery. At
this time, the indicator lights of the
switches will flash. In any of these cases,
you should normalize the power window
on each door.

To normalize the power windows:1. Push down the power window switch of each door and lower the windows half-
way.
2. Pull up the switch until the windows close and hold the switch for at least
one second.
Make sure that the windows open and
close automatically. If the power windows
cannot be operated properly, have them
checked by your Scion dealer.
Back door

To open the back door, push the back
door opener and raise the door.
The back door can be opened when the
vehicle is stopped.
The back door can be locked or unlocked
in the following ways.
Operate the power door lock switch.
(See “Side doors” on page 15.)
Operate the wireless remote control.
(See “Wireless remote control” on page
11 . )
The side doors and back door are
locked and unlocked simultaneously
with the driver’s door. (See “Side
doors” on page 15.) When the side doors and back door are
unlocked simultaneously with a key, the
interior lights and ignition switch light will
come on and remain on for about 15 sec-
onds before fading out. (For details, see
“Interior lights” on page 82 and “Ignition
switch light” on page 83.)
If the back door opener does not operate,
see “If you cannot operate back door
opener” on page 188.
If the battery is disconnected or run
down,
the back door will be automatically
locked and the back door system may not
work after you reconnect, replace or re-
charge the battery. In any of these cases,
normalize the back door system by follow-
ing procedure.
1. Unlock the back door with the remote control key or power door lock switch.
2. Close the back door completely by hand.
If the back door system does not operate
properly after the above procedure, there
may be a problem in the system. Contact
your Scion dealer.

When closing the back door, the inside
handle can be used to make the reach
easier.
To close the back door, lower it and press
down on it. After closing the back door,
try pulling it up to make sure it is secure-
ly closed.
See “Cargo and luggage” on page 155 for
precautions to observe when loading lug-
gage.
CAUTION
Keep the back door closed while driv-
ing. This not only keeps the luggage
from being thrown out but also pre-
vents exhaust gases from entering
the vehicle.
Hood

To open the hood:1. Pull the hood lock release lever. The hood will spring up slightly.
CAUTION
Before driving, be sure that the hood
is closed and securely locked. Other-
wise, the hood may open unexpected-
ly while driving and an accident may
occur.

Fuel tank cap

This indicates that the fuel filler door
is on the left side of your vehicle.

1. To open the fuel filler door, pull thelever up.
When refueling, turn off the engine.
CAUTION
Do not smoke, cause sparks or al-
low open flames when refueling.
The fumes are flammable.
When opening the cap, do not re-
move the cap quickly. In hot weath-
er, fuel under pressure could cause
injury by spraying out of the filler
neck if the cap is suddenly re-
moved.
2. To remove the fuel tank cap, turnthe cap counterclockwise by 90 de-
grees (to the pressure point 1), and
then turn it an additional 30 degrees
(to point 2). Pause slightly before
removing it.
Although a click will be heard as you turn
the cap to point 1, it does not indicate
that the cap can be removed.
It is not unusual to hear a slight swoosh
when the cap is opened.

To operate the moon roof, use the
switch beside the interior light.
The moon roof works when the ignition
switch is in the “ON” position.1. Push the switch briefly on the “OPEN” side. (Position 1)
The front and center roof panels will tilt
up slightly.
This position is appropriate to ventilate
interior air.
To stop partway, push the switch on either
the “OPEN” or “CLOSE” side briefly.
To lower: Hold down the switch on the
“CLOSE” side. To stop partway, release
the switch.
If you hold down the switch on the
“OPEN” side for more than 2 seconds, the
front and center roof panels will tilt up
slightly. Then the front roof panel will tilt
up fully and the center roof panel will
slide and stop 50 mm (2.0 in.) from the
fully opened position.
The front and rear sunshades can be
opened or closed by hand.
To open the front sunshade, pull it toward
the back. To open the rear sunshade, pull
it toward the front. To close them, pull
them back in the opposite direction. 2. Push the switch briefly on the
“OPEN” side again. (Position 2)
The front roof panel will fully tilt up and
the center roof panel will slide and stop
50 mm (2.0 in.) from the fully opened
position.
To stop partway, push the switch on either
the “OPEN” or “CLOSE” side briefly.
The front sunshade will be opened togeth-
er with the roof panels.
To close: Hold down the switch on the
“CLOSE” side. The center roof panel will
slide and stop right before the fully closed
position. When you hold down the switch
once again, the front and center roof pan-
els will lower completely. To stop partway,
release the switch.
The front sunshade will not close together
with the roof panels. Close the sunshade
by hand. 3. Push the switch briefly on the “OPEN” side one more time. (Posi-
tion 3)
The center roof panel will slide fully.
As driving with the moon roof opened fully
will cause wind throbs, we recommend
you to drive with the moon roof 50 mm
(2.0 in.) from the fully opened position. To stop partway, push the switch on either
the “OPEN” or “CLOSE” side briefly.
The front sunshade will be opened togeth-
er with the roof panels.
To close: Hold down the switch on the
“CLOSE” side. The center roof panel will
slide and stop right before the fully closed
position. When you hold down the switch
once again, the front and center roof pan-
els will lower completely. To stop partway,
release the switch.
The front sunshade will not close together
with the roof panels. Close the sunshade
by hand.
Key off operation:
If both side doors are
closed, it works for 43 seconds even after
the ignition switch is turned off. It stops
working when either side door is opened.
Jam protection function: If something
gets caught between the moon roof and
frame during closing operation, the moon
roof stops and opens to a full open posi-
tion or the position opened about 200 mm
(7.9 in.).
If the moon roof receives a strong impact,
this function may work even if nothing is
caught.
