Locking and unlocking
Checking the batteries
Press button‹ orŒ.
Battery check lamp5 comes on brief-
ly to indicate that the SmartKey batter-
ies are in order.Unlocking and opening the trunk lid
You can unlock and open the trunk sepa-
rately.
A minimum height clearance of 5.90 ft
(1.80 m) is required to open the trunk lid.
Press and hold buttonŠ until trunk
unlocks and begins to open.
The trunk can also be opened from its in-
side in an emergency, see “Trunk lid emer-
gency release” (
page 117).
!If you can no longer lock or unlock the
vehicle with the SmartKey, then either
the batteries in the SmartKey are dis-
charged, the SmartKey is malfunction-
ing or the vehicle battery is drained.
Check the batteries in the
SmartKey (
page 101) and re-
place them if necessary
(
page 415).
Use the mechanical key to unlock
the driver’s door (
page 410).
Have the vehicle batteries and their
connections checked.
Use the mechanical key to lock the
driver’s door (
page 410).
If the SmartKey is malfunctioning, con-
tact an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center.
iIf battery check lamp5 does not
come on briefly during check, then the
SmartKey batteries are discharged.
Replace the batteries (
page 415).
You can obtain the required batteries
at any authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center.
iIf the batteries are checked within sig-
nal range of the vehicle, pressing the
button‹ orŒ will lock or unlock
the vehicle accordingly.
!The trunk lid swings open upwards au-
tomatically. Always make sure there is
sufficient overhead clearance.
Vehicles with trunk lid opening/closing
system*: to stop the opening proce-
dure, press buttonŠ on the
SmartKey. The trunk lid stops moving.

If you lose your SmartKey with
KEYLESS-GO, you should do the following:
Have the SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO
deactivated by an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.
Report the loss immediately to your car
insurance company.
Have the mechanical lock replaced if
necessary.
Your authorized Mercedes-Benz Center
will be glad to supply you with a replace-
ment.

Vehicles with trunk lid opening/closing
system*: to stop the opening proce-
dure, press buttonŠ on the
SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO. The trunk
lid stops moving.iIf the vehicle was previously centrally
locked with KEYLESS-GO, the trunk will
lock automatically after closing it. The
turn signals flash three times to con-
firm locking.

Opening the trunk from the outside

In vehicles without KEYLESS-GO*: The ve-
hicle must be unlocked.
Pull on the handle.
The trunk lid opens.Opening the trunk from the inside
You can open the trunk from the inside if
the vehicle is stationary.
A minimum height clearance of 5.90 ft
(1.80 m) is required to open the trunk lid.
The switch is located on the driver’s door.

Vehicles with trunk lid opening/closing
system*:
The trunk lid opening height can be limited
when transporting goods on a roof rack
(e.g. presence of an optional MB sport lug-
gage container). When activated, the trunk
lid opens to approximately the height of
the roof edge.
Activate the limiting opening height of
trunk lid using the control system
(page 166).

lamps switch off automatically after ap-

Power tilt /sliding sunroof*

Opening and closing the power tilt/sliding sunroof
The tilt/sliding sunroof can be opened and
closed electrically. The switch for the
tilt/sliding sunroof is on the overhead con-

screen can be slid into the sunroof opening
to guard against sun rays. When sliding the
sunroof open, the screen will also retract.

When closing the tilt/sliding sunroof, make
sure there is no danger of anyone being
harmed by the closing procedure.
The opening/closing procedure of the
tilt/sliding sunroof can be immediately halt-
ed by releasing the switch or, if the switch
was moved past the resistance point and re-
leased, by moving the switch in any direc-
tion.
The tilt/sliding sunroof is made out of glass.
In the event of an accident, the glass may
shatter. This may result in an opening in the
roof.
In a vehicle rollover, occupants not wearing
their seat belts or not wearing them properly
may be thrown out of the opening. Such an
opening also presents a potential for injury
for occupants wearing their seat belts prop-
erly as entire body parts or portions of them
may protrude from the passenger compart-
ment.

The tilt/sliding panel and the front and
rear roller sunblinds can be opened and
closed electrically. The switch for the
tilt/sliding panel and the roller sunblinds is
on the overhead control panel. An addi-
tional switch for the roller sunblinds is in
the rear passenger compartment.
The roller sunblinds only operate with the
tilt/sliding panel closed. The front and rear
roller sunblind cannot be operated individ-
ually.

Opening and closing the roller sun-
blinds
To open or close the roller sunblinds,
move the roof panel/roller sunblinds
switch to the resistance point in the re-
quired direction of arrow1 or2.
Release the roof panel/roller sunblinds
switch when the roller sunblinds have
reached the desired position.
