Event data recorder
Your vehicle has computers that monitor and control certain
aspects of your vehicle. These computers assist in driving and
maintaining optimal vehicle performance. Besides storing data
useful for troubleshooting, there is a system to record data in
a crash or a near car crash event. This is called an Event Data
Recorder (EDR).
The SRS airbag sensor assembly contains the EDR. In a crash
or a near car crash event, this device records some or all of the
following information:

Engine speed

Whether the brake pedal was applied or not

Vehicle speed

To what extent the accelerator pedal was depressed

Position of the transmission selector lever

Whether the driver and front passenger wore the seat belts
or not

Driver's seat position

Front passenger's occupant classification

SRS airbag deployment data

SRS airbag system diagnostic data
The information above is intended to be used for the purpose
of improving vehicle safety performance. Unlike general data
recorders, the EDR does not record sound data such as
conversation between passengers. Lexus will not disclose the data recorded in an EDR to a third
party except when:


An agreement from the vehicle's owner (or the leasing
company for a leased vehicle) is obtained

Officially requested by the police or other authorities

Used as a defense for Lexus in a law suit

Ordered by the court
However, if necessary Lexus will:

Use the data for research on Lexus vehicle safety
performance

Disclose the data to a third party for research purposes
without disclosing details of the vehicle owner, and only when it is deemed necessary

Disclose summarized data cleared of vehicle identification
information to a non±Lexus organization for research
purposes

OPERATION OF SELECTOR LEVER
SELECTOR LEVER POSITION
P: Parking, engine starting and key removal position
R: Reverse position
N: Neutral position
D: Normal driving position (Shifting into overdrive
possible)
M: Position for manual shifting up or downshifting
(Shifting into overdrive possible)*
3, 2: Position for more powerful engine braking
L: Position for maximum engine braking

Shift while pressing the brake pedal. (Ignition
switch must be in the ªONº position.)
*:When the cruise control is being used, even if you downshift from ª5º to ª4º\
, engine braking will not be enabled because
the cruise control is not cancelled. For the operation to decrease the v\
ehicle speed, see page 251.

Locking with power door lock switch

1Lock 2Unlock
To lock all the doors simultaneously, push the power door
lock switch down on the front side. Pushing down on the
rear side will unlock them.
The same switch is also located on the front passenger's side.
Setting the auto door locking and unlocking
functions
You can set the following auto door locking and unlocking
functions.
(a) Locking linked with the shift position (Automatic
transmission only)
All the doors are locked automatically when the selector lever
is moved out of the ªPº position with the engine running.(b) Unlocking linked with the shift position (Automatic
transmission only)
All the doors are unlocked automatically when the selector
lever is moved to the ªPº position with the ignition switch in the
ªONº position.*
NOTE:
*This function is the default setting for new vehicles.
(c) Locking linked with the vehicle speed
All the doors are locked automatically when the vehicle speed
reaches 20 km/h (12 mph) or higher. However, if any door is
unlocked during driving, this auto locking function will not
operate until the unlocked door is opened once.*
NOTE:*This function is the default setting for new vehicles.
(d) Unlocking linked with opening the driver's door
All the doors are unlocked automatically when the driver's door
is opened within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned
from ªONº to the ªACCº or ªLOCKº position.*
NOTE:*This function is the default setting for new vehicles.
Setting the functions
1. Close all the doors.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the ªONº position.
3. Within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the
ªONº position;

(i) Malfunction Indicator Lamp
This lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the
ªONº position and goes off after the engine starts. This
means that the warning light system is operating properly.
If the lamp remains on, or the lamp comes on while
driving, first check the followings.
 Empty fuel tank
If the fuel tank is empty, refuel immediately.
 Loose fuel tank cap
If the fuel tank cap is loose, securely tighten it.
These cases are temporary malfunctions. The malfunction
indicator lamp will go off after taking several driving trips.
If the lamp does not go off even after several trips, contact your
Lexus dealer as soon as possible.
If the fuel tank is not empty or the fuel tank cap is not
loose...
 There is a problem somewhere in the engine, emission
control system, electronic throttle control system, automatic
transmission electrical system or warning light system itself.
Contact your Lexus dealer as soon as possible to service the
vehicle.
If engine speed does not increase when the accelerator pedal
is depressed, there may be a problem somewhere in the
electronic throttle control system. At this time, if you depress the accelerator pedal more firmly
and slowly, you can drive your vehicle at low speeds. Have
your
Lexus checked by your Lexus dealer as soon as possible.
Even if the abnorma lity of the electronic throttle control system
is corrected during low speed driving, the system may not be
recovered until the engine is stopped and the ignition key is
turned to ªACCº or ªLOCKº position.
CAUTION
Be especially careful to prevent erroneous pedal
operation.
Emissions Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) programs
Your vehicle may not pass a state emission inspection if the
malfunction indicator lamp remains on. Contact your Lexus
dealer to check your vehicle's emission control system and
OBD (On±Board Diagnostics) system before taking your
vehicle for the inspection.

(j) ªABSº Warning Light
The light comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ªONº
position. If the anti±lock brake system and the brake assist
system work properly, the light turns off after a few seconds.
Thereafter, if either of the systems malfunctions, the light
comes on again.
