B510C01A-AAT FOLDING THE OUTSIDE REARVIEW MIRRORS To fold the outside rearview mirrors, push them towards the rear. The outside rearview mirrors can befolded rearward for parking in narrow areas.
WARNING:
Do not adjust or fold the outside rearview mirrors while the vehicle is moving. This could result in loss of control, and an accident whichcould cause death, serious injury or property damage. B510C01FCB510D01HP-AAT OUTSIDE REARVIEW MIRROR HEATER (If installed) The outside rearview mirror heater is actuated in connection with the rear window defroster. To heat the outside rearview mirror glass, pushin the switch for the rear window de- froster. The rearview mirror glass will be heated for defrosting or defoggingand will give you improved rear vision in inclement weather conditions. Push the switch again to turn the heater off.The outside rearview mirror heater automatically turns itself off after 20 minutes.

1. Pull the release knob to unlatch the hood. CAUTION:
Make sure that the support rod has been released prior to closing the hood.

3. Hold the hood open with the support
rod.
Before closing the hood, return the support rod to its clip to prevent it fromrattling. Lower the hood until it is about 30 cm (1 ft.) above the closed position and let it drop. Make sure that it locksinto place.

HIGH-MOUNTED REAR STOP LIGHT

Fuel vapors are dangerous. Before refueling, always stop the engineand never allow sparks or open flames near the filler area. If you need to replace the filler cap, use agenuine Hyundai replacement part. If you open the fuel filler cap during high ambient temperatures, a slight"pressure sound" may be heard. This is normal and not a cause for concern.Whenever you open the fuel filler

REMOTE FUEL-FILLER LID RELEASE
B560A02A-AAT The fuel-filler lid may be opened from inside the vehicle by pulling up on the fuel-filler lid opener located on the frontfloor area on the left side of the car. NOTE: If the fuel-filler lid will not open because ice has formed around it, tap lightly or push on the lid to break the ice and release the lid. Donot pry on the lid. If necessary, spray around the lid with an ap- proved de-icer fluid (do not useradiator anti-freeze) or move the vehicle to a warm place and allow the ice to melt. HFC2015
!WARNING:
o Always double check to be sure that the hood is firmly latched before driving away. If it is notlatched, the hood could open while the vehicle is being driven, causing a total loss of visibility,which might result in an acci- dent.
o The support rod must be inserted completely into the hole providedin the hood whenever you in- spect the engine compartment.This will prevent the hood from falling and possibly injuring you.
o Do not move the vehicle with the hood in the raised position, asvision is obstructed and the hood could fall or be damaged.

B670C02FC-GAT Air Intake Control With the "Fresh" mode selected, air enters the vehicle from the outside andis heated or cooled according to the function selected. With the "Recirculation" mode selected, air from within the passenger compart- ment will be drawn through the heatingsystem and heated or cooled according to the function selected. NOTE:
o It should be noted that prolonged
operation of the heating in "Recir- culation" mode will increase to fogging of the windshield and sidewindows and the air within the passenger compartment will be- come stale. In addition, prolongeduse of the air conditioning with the "Recirculation" mode selected may result in the air within thepassenger compartment becom- ing excessively dry.
o When the ignition switch is turned "ON" the air intake control willchange to ( ) mode (regardless of switch position). This is normaloperation.
This is used to select fresh outside airor recirculating inside air. To change the air intake control mode, (Fresh mode, Recirculation mode) pushthe control button. FRESH MODE
( ) :
The indicator light on the button goes off when the air intake control is in fresh mode. RECIRCULATION MODE ( ):
The indicator light on the button is illuminated when the air intake control is in recirculation mode. HFC2067
For normal heating operation, set the air intake control to the "Fresh" position and the air flow control to "Floor". For faster heating, the air intake control should be in the "Recirculation" posi-tion. If the windows fog up, move the air flow control to the "Def" (defroster) position. (The A/C will turn on automatically and "Fresh" mode will be activated.) For maximum heat, move the tempera- ture control to "Warm".

For dehumidified heating:
o Turn on the fan control switch.
o Turn on the air conditioning switch.
The air conditioning indicator light should come on at the same time.
o Set the air intake control to the "Fresh" mode ( ).
o Set the air flow control to the desired
position.
o Adjust the fan control to the desired speed.
o For more rapid action, set the fan at one of the higher speeds.
o Adjust the temperature control to
provide the desired amount of warmth.

o Set the temperature control to "Cool".
("Cool" provides maximum cooling. The temperature may be moderated by moving the control toward "Warm".)
o Adjust the fan control to the desired speed. For greater cooling, turn thefan control to one of the higher speedsor temporarily select the "Recircula- tion" position on the air intake con- trol.

o Turn on the fan control switch.
o Turn on the air conditioning switch bypushing in on the switch. The air conditioning indicator light should come on at the same time.

o Never leave a cassette inserted in
the player when not being played. This could damage the tape player unit and the cassette tape.
o We strongly recommend against the
use of tapes longer than C-60 (60minutes total). Tapes such as C-120 or C-180 are very thin and do notperform as well in the automotive environment. o Be sure that the cassette label is not
loose or peeling off or tape ejection may be difficult.
o Never touch or soil the actual audio
tape surfaces.
o Keep all magnetized objects, such as electric motors, speakers or trans-formers away from your cassettetapes and tape player unit.
o Store cassettes in a cool, dry place
with the open side facing down toprevent dust from setting in the cas- sette body.
o Avoid repeated fast reverse usage to replay one given tune or tape sec-tion. This can cause poor tape wind- ing to occur, and eventually causeexcessive internal drag and poor audio quality in the cassette. If this occurs, it can sometimes be cor-rected by fast winding the tape from end to end several times. If this does not correct the problem, do not con-tinue to use the tape in your vehicle.

Proper care of your cassette tapes will extend the tape life and increase your listening enjoyment. Always protectyour tapes and cassette cases from direct sunlight, severe cold and dusty conditions. When not in use, cassettesshould always be stored in the protec- tive cassette case. TO START THE ENGINEBEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE
C020A01O-GAT Before you start the engine, you should always:
1. Look around the vehicle to be sure
there are no flat tires, puddles of oil, water or other indications of pos- sible trouble.
2. After entering the car, check to be sure the parking brake is engaged.
3. Check that all windows, and lights are clean.
4. Check that the interior and exterior
mirrors are clean and in position.
5. Check your seat, seatback and headrest to be sure they are in theirproper positions.
6. Lock all the doors.
7. Fasten your seat belt and be sure
that all other occupants have fas- tened theirs.
8. Turn off all lights and accessories
that are not needed. C030A01A-GAT COMBINATION IGNITION SWITCH Before starting the engine:
o If your Hyundai is equipped with a
manual transaxle, place the shift lever in neutral and depress theclutch pedal fully.
o If your Hyundai has an automatic
transaxle, place the shift lever in "P"(park).
o To start the engine, insert the igni-
tion key and turn it to the "START"position. Release it as soon as the engine starts. Do not hold the key in the "START" position for more than15 seconds.
NOTE: For safety, the engine will not start if the shift lever is not in "P" or "N"Position (Automatic Transaxle).
WARNING: (DIESEL ENGINE)
To ensure that sufficient vacuum exists within the brake system dur- ing cold weather start-up condi-tions, it is necessary to run the engine at idle for several seconds after starting the engine.
9. When you turn the ignition switch to
"ON", check that all appropriatewarning lights are operating and that you have sufficient fuel.
10.Check the operation of warning lights and all bulbs when key is inthe "ON" position.

STARTING

WARNING:
Never run the engine in a closed or poorly ventilated area any longerthan is needed to move your car in or out of the area. The carbon mon- oxide gas emitted is odorless andcan cause serious injury or death. C050B02S-GAT NORMAL CONDITIONS The Starting Procedure:
1. Insert key, and fasten the seat belt.
2. Depress the clutch pedal fully and
place the gearshift lever (manual transaxle) in neutral or the selector lever (automatic transaxle) in "P" (park) position.
3. After turning the ignition key to the "ON" position, make certain all warn-ing lights and gauges are function-ing properly before starting the en- gine.
4. On vehicles equipped with the die- sel preheat indicator light, turn theignition key to the "ON" position. The diesel pre-heat indicator lightwill first illuminate in amber, and then after a short time, the amber illumination will goes off, indicatingthat preheating is completed.
C051A01O-GAT Starting for the diesel engine ENGINE COLD
o Turn the ignition key to position
"ON" and wait for the pre-heat indi- cator light to go out.
o Operate the starter until the engine runs.
ENGINE WARM Operate the starter. If the engine does not respond on the first attempt, wait several seconds and try again usingthe pre-heat.
