o During cold weather, shifting may be difficult until the transaxle lu-bricant has warmed up. This isnormal and not harmful to thetransaxle.
o If you 've come to a complete
stop and it's hard to shift into 1st or R(Reverse), put the shift lever in N(Neutral) position and releasethe clutch. Press the clutch pedalback down, and then shift into1st or R(Reverse) gear position.
o Do not use the shift lever as a handrest during driving, as thiscan result in premature wear ofthe transaxle shift forks.
o Always ensure that the periodic
maintenance services are performedby a Hyundai authorised repairer atthe time and/or mileage intervalsspecified.
o Use the air conditioning only when
necessary.

The use of a proprietary stabiliser will assist in achieving an inherently stableoutfit but whilst the use of such equip-ment will improve the characteristicsof a balanced outfit, it will not compen- sate for a badly loaded and therefore unstable outfit. The tyres and braking equipment fitted to the trailer or caravan must be main-tained in accordance with the recom- mendations of the manufacturer. Spe- cial attention should be paid to tyreswhich deteriorate through time andexposure rather than as a result of thedistances towed. The inside walls ofthe tyres should be inspected along with the outside walls for cracking and damage. The trailer wheel nut torquemust be checked on a regular basis,preferably before each towing ses-sion. The trailer hitch and the safety catch mechanism must be maintained in goodworking order. The trailer break awaycable or chain should be inspected fordamage and should be attached to thevehicle towing attachment each and every time the trailer is hitched to the vehicle. Whilst towing, the performance of thevehicle will be reduced in terms ofacceleration, braking and handling dueto the increased loads placed upon thevehicle. The driver should anticipate the change in characteristics and ad- just the driving style in keeping withthese changes. Care should be exer-cised when cornering and braking toprevent the outfit becoming uncontrol-lable by reducing cornering speeds and allowing increased braking dis- tances. The driver should exercise care to ensure that when pulling away fromrest particularly on uphill gradients the clutch unit is not subjected to exces- sive slippage which will reduce theuseful life of this component. Use ofthe "Overdrive Off" "2" and "L" posi-tions when driving vehicles with auto-matic transmission will assist with brak- ing performance when long down hill gradients are encountered. Improvedacceleration performance will be avail-able by selecting "Overdrive Off","2",or "1" depending upon road speed if itis found that the transmission unit makes an undesirable upshift whilst hill climbing or overtaking. The trans- mission unit should be operated in "D"with the Overdrive "On" under normalcircumstances to enhance fueleconomy and reduce noise and en-gine wear.
CAUTION:
The use of a badly loaded or over-loaded trailer may result in instabil- ity. This following specifications arerecommended when towing atrailer. The loaded trailer weight orthe Gross Train Weight must notexceed the values in the following chart .

When being passed by a large ve- hicle, keep a constant speed andsteer straight ahead. If there is toomuch wind buffeting slow down toget out of the other vehicle's air turbulence.
8. When parking your car and trailer, especially on a hill, be sure to follow all the normal precautions. Turn yourfront wheel into the curb, set theparking brake firmly, and put the transaxle in 1st or Reverse (manual) or Park (automatic). In addition,place wheel chocks at each of thetrailer's tyres.
9. If the trailer has electric brakes,
start your vehicle and trailer mov- ing, and then apply the trailer brake controller by hand to be sure thebrakes are working. This lets youcheck your electrical connection atthe same time.
10. During your trip, check occasion- ally to be sure that the load issecure, and that the lights andany trailer brakes are still working.
11. Avoid jerky starts, sudden accel- eration or sudden stops.
12. Avoid sharp turns and rapid lane changes. 13. Avoid holding the brake pedal
down too long or too frequently.This could cause the brakes tooverheat, resulting in reduced brak-ing efficiency.
14. When going down a hill, shift into
a lower gear and use the enginebraking effect.When ascending a long grade,
downshift the transaxle to a lowergear and reduce speed to reduce chances of engine overloading and/ or overheating.
15. If you have to stop while going
uphill, do not hold the vehicle inplace by pressing on the accelera-tor. This can cause the automatic transaxle to overheat. Use the park- ing brake or footbrake.
NOTE: When towing check transaxle fluid more frequently. CAUTION:
If overheating should occur whentowing, (temperature gauge reads near red zone), taking the following action may reduce or eliminate theproblem.
1. Turn off the air conditioner.
2. Reduce highway speed.
3. Select a lower gear when going uphill.
4. While in stop and go traffic, place the gear selection in park or neu- tral and idle the engine at a higherspeed.

3- 6 WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY
SD060A1-E IN THE EVENT OF A PUNCTURE If a puncture occurs whilst driving the vehicle:
1. Bring the car to rest as soon as it is
safe to do so and with the minimum amount of braking required which will assist in maintaining the maxi- mum amount of control. The vehicleshould be parked wherever pos- sible upon firm level ground to facili- tate wheel changing.
2. If the vehicle is creating a hazard and the road conditions do not per-mit the wheel to be changed safely,assistance should be sought.
3. Passengers must not be allowed to
remain inside the vehicle duringwheel changing. If a puncture oc- curs whilst the vehicle is on a motorway, the passengers shouldtake refuge on the motorway em- bankment to avoid the possibility of injury occurring should the vehiclebe struck by other motorway traffic.
4. Wheel changing should be per-
formed according to the followinginstructions.
SD050A2-E SPARE WHEEL (Not all models) The spare wheel is stored under the luggage compartment floor and is ac-cessed from within the luggage com- partment by lifting the carpet and the floor panel.To remove the spare wheel, unscrew the retainer, rotating this in an anti clockwise direction and lift out thewheel. To replace the wheel, screw the retainer by hand until tight having located the wheel in the luggage com-partment floor well. The inflation pres- sure of the spare wheel should be checked at least monthly and when-ever the wheel is fitted to the vehicle.

5. The temporary spare tyre should
not be used on any other wheels, nor should standard tyre, snow tyre,wheel covers or trim rings be used with the temporary spare wheel. If such use is attempted, damage tothese items or other car compo- nents may occur.
6. The temporary spare tyre pressure should be checked once a monthwhile the tyre is stored.
5- 2 VEHICLE MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
SF020A1-E MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING REQUIREMENTS To ensure the continued reliability and safety of the vehicle, certain routinemaintenance operations are required at specific mileage or time intervals. It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to ensure that the maintenance schedules shown in both this OwnersManual and the Warranty and Service Passport are adhered to. The new vehicle warranty may be invalidated if the routine maintenance operations are not performed in line with the recommendations outlinedand the safety and durability of the vehicle adversely affected. It is recommended that all mainte- nance operations with the exception of the daily operating checks are en-trusted to a Hyundai authorised re- pairer to ensure that the latest repairer and maintenance procedures and spe-cialized servicing tools are employed. In addition, the use of genuine Hyundai replacement parts will ensure that thevehicle safety and performance will not be compromised. NOTE:
The inspection and testing of cer-
tain electronic fuel injection/engine management and automatic trans- mission control systems require specialised electronic equipmentspecifically designed for Hyundai vehicles. The use of general pur- pose electrical test equipment mayresult in damage to the control unit microprocessors.

Specified Scheduled Procedures
The Specified scheduled procedures
are listed in the maintenance charts beginning at page 5-3. The opera- tions specified must be performed at the time or mileage intervals shownirrespective of whether the mileage interval has been reached before the specified time interval. Certain lubricants and components
degrade with both time and mileage(e.g. engine oil and brake fluid) and therefore it is not permissable to base the maintenance schedule upon mile-age alone. It is strongly recommended that the maintenance operations are performed by the factory-trained ordistributor-trained technicians at your Hyundai authorised repairer becauseof the need for specialized knowledge and tooling and to ensure that no possibility of invalidating the manufac-turers warranty exists.
The maintenance schedules relate to
vehicles operated under normal con- ditions, vehicles which are operated under adverse conditions will requiremore frequent maintenance which is described at page 5-6. NOTE:
Service schedules may change de-

G040A01TB-EAT ENGINE OIL AND FILTER REPLACEMENT
The engine oil and filter must be changed at the time or mileage interval specifiedin the maintenance schedule. If the vehicle is operated under severe or adverse conditions, the oil and filtermust be replaced more frequently. To replace the oil and filter, proceed as follows:
1. Ensure that the engine is at normaloperating temperature and park the vehicle on level ground with the park- ing brake securely applied and the engine turned off.
2. Open the bonnet and remove the oil filler cap.

Diesel engine Only ethylene glycol based coolant with a corrosion inhibitor suited to aluminium alloy engine components should be used in the cooling system. No further additives or inhibitors should be used.The coolant specific gravity should be checked as prescribed in the mainte- nance schedule to ensure adequatefrost and corrosion protection. In addi- tion, the engine coolant must be re- placed at the specified interval sincethe corrosion inhibitor properties dete- riorate with time. It is important to note that whilst anincrease in the concentration of anti freeze gives an increase in the level offrost protection, a solution which is in excess of 65% anti freeze will result in reduced frost protection and engineoverheating. Therefore the recom- mended concentration of 50% should not be exceeded for general use.The use of methanol based anti freeze compounds may result in engine over- heating and will invalidate the vehiclewarranty. NOTE: It is imperative that vehicles fitted with an air conditioning system have a coolant concentration of the rec- ommended strength at all times. Theuse of the air conditioning system when the cooling system is filled with water only will result in theheater matrix freezing and subse- quently bursting.
SG050C1-E Engine Coolant Level The engine coolant level may be ob- served through the side of the plasticcoolant reservoir (expansion tank) when the engine is cold. If the level is below the "LOW" mark, add coolant of thecorrect concentration until the level is between the "LOW" and "Full" marks. If the level falls below the "LOW" mark ona regular basis despite being topped up, consult a Hyundai authorised repairer. SG050D1-E To Change the engine Coolant The engine coolant should be changed at those intervals specified in the ve- hicle maintenance schedule in Section5. NOTE: Care should be taken to ensure that coolant is not allowed to spill ontothe paintwork since the finish may become damaged. If coolant spill- age occurs, the affected area shouldbe rinsed thoroughly with water.

!WARNING:
Brake fluid is hygroscopic and should never be stored in an un- sealed container. The presence ofwater in the braking system will cause vapour locks and increase the possi- bility of brake fade along with pro-moting corrosion within the braking system. The brake fluid must be changed at the specified time or mile-age interval to ensure continued safe operation of the system. Brake fluid will cause rapid and serious damageto paintwork. If accidental spillage occurs, the affected area must be rinsed with water immediately. Donot allow brake fluid to come into SG140A1-E AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM MAINTENANCECondenser Ensure that the condenser is periodi- cally inspected and that accumulationsof dirt, dead insects and leaves etc, are removed to ensure that the efficiency of the system is not impaired. Care mustbe exercised to ensure that the con- denser fins are not damaged during cleaning.

4) Carefully replace the cap on the res- ervoir and tighten. contact with the eyes or to be in-gested and ensure that fluid is safelystored away form the reach of chil- dren.
