CAUTION:
o Do not operate the switch continuously
for an unnecessary length of time.
o Scraping ice from the mirror face could
cause permanent damage. To remove
any ice, use a sponge, soft cloth or
approved de-icer.
!
WARNING:
Be careful when judging the size or dis-
tance of any object seen in the passenger
side rear view mirror. It is a convex mirror
with a curved surface, and objects seen in
this mirror are closer than they appear.
The outside rearview mirrors can be adjusted
to your preferred rear vision, both directly be-
hind the vehicle, and to the rear of the left and
right sides.
The remote control outside rearview mirror
switch controls the adjustments for both right
and left outside mirrors. To adjust the position of either mirror:1. Move the selecting switch to the right or left
to activate the adjustable mechanism for the
corresponding door mirror.
2. Adjust mirror angle by depressing the appro-
priate directional switch as illustrated.

o Make sure the floor mat is properly placed
on the floor carpet. If the floor mat slips
and interferes with the movement of the
pedals during driving, it may cause an
accident.
o Don't put an additional floor mat on the
top of the anchored floor, otherwise the
additional mat may slide forward and
interfere with the movement of the ped-
als.B990A03Y-AATWhen using a floor mat on the front floor carpet,
make sure it attaches to the floor mat anchor in
your vehicle. This keeps the floor mat from
sliding forward.

DRIVING YOUR HYUNDAI
16
C160J01A-AATDon't Let Ice and Snow Accumulate
UnderneathUnder some conditions, snow and ice can build
up under the fenders and interfere with the
steering. When driving in severe winter condi-
tions where this may happen, you should peri-
odically check underneath the car to be sure the
movement of the front wheels and the steering
components is not obstructed.C160K01A-AATCarry Emergency EquipmentDepending on the severity of the weather where
you drive your car, you should carry appropri-
ate emergency equipment. Some of the items
you may want to carry include tire chains, tow
straps or chains, flashlight, emergency flares,
sand, a shovel, jumper cables, a window scraper,
gloves, ground cloth, coveralls, a blanket, etc.
C160H02A-AATUse Approved Window Washer Anti-
Freeze in SystemTo keep the water in the window washer system
from freezing, add an approved window washer
anti-freeze solution in accordance with instruc-
tions on the container. Window washer anti-
freeze is available from Hyundai dealers and
most auto parts outlets. Do not use engine
coolant or other types of anti-freeze as these
may damage the paint finish.C160I01A-AATDon't Let Your Parking Brake FreezeUnder some conditions your parking brake can
freeze in the engaged position. This is most
likely to happen when there is an accumulation
of snow or ice around or near the rear brakes
or if the brakes are wet. If there is a risk the
parking brake may freeze, apply it only tempo-
rarily while you put the gear selector lever in "P"
(automatic) or in first or reverse gear (manual
transaxle) and block the rear wheels so the car
cannot roll. Then release the parking brake.
C160E01A-AATChange to "Winter Weight" Oil if Neces-
saryIn some climates it is recommended that a lower
viscosity "winter weight" oil be used during cold
weather. See Section 9 for recommendations.
If you aren't sure what weight oil you should use,
consult your Hyundai dealer.C160F01A-AATCheck Spark Plugs and Ignition SystemInspect your spark plugs as described in Sec-
tion 6 and replace them if necessary. Also
check all ignition wiring and components to be
sure they are not cracked, worn or damaged in
any way.C160G01A-AATTo Keep Locks from FreezingTo keep the locks from freezing, squirt an
approved de-icer fluid or glycerine into the key
opening. If a lock is covered with ice, squirt it with
an approved de-icing fluid to remove the ice. If
the lock is frozen internally, you may be able to
thaw it out by using a heated key. Handle the
heated key with care to avoid injury.

CHECKING AND CHANGING THE
ENGINE COOLANT!
G050A01A-AAT
WARNING:
Do not remove the radiator cap when the
engine is hot. When the engine is hot, the
engine coolant is under pressure and may
erupt through the opening if the cap is
removed. You could be seriously burned if
you do not observe this precaution. Do not
remove the radiator cap until the radiator is
cool to the touch.
G050B01A-AATRecommended Engine CoolantUse a high quality ethylene-glycol coolant in a
50/50 mix with water. The engine coolant should
be compatible with aluminum engine parts.
Additional corrosion inhibitors or additives should
not be used. The cooling system must be
maintained with the correct concentration and
type of engine coolant to prevent freezing and
corrosion. Never allow the concentration of
antifreeze to exceed the 60% level or go below
the 35% level, or damage to the cooling system
may result. For proper concentration when
adding or replacing the engine coolant, refer to
the following table.

FILLING THE WASHER RESERVOIRG090A02A-AATThe washer fluid reservoir supplies fluid to the
windshield washer systems.
A good quality washer fluid should be used to fill
the washer reservoir. The fluid level should be
checked more frequently during inclement
weather or whenever the washer system is in
more frequent use.
The capacity of the washer reservoir is 3.2 U.S.
quarts (3.0 Liters).
G090A01E-A
CHECKING THE TRANSAXLE OIL
CAUTION:
o Radiator anti-freeze (engine coolant)
should not be used in the washer system
because it will damage the car's finish.
o The washer should not be operated if
the washer reservoir is empty. This can
damage the washer fluid pump.
