5) Avoid rapid acceleration and maxi-
mum throttle openings.
6) Avoid harsh braking during the first 100 miles of urban motoring or 1,000 miles of motorway driving to allowthe friction facings of the brake pads and shoes to bed against the discs and drums properly.
7) No trailer towing should be under- taken during the running in period. B880A01A-EAT The immobiliser system is an anti-theft device, designed to deter automobile theft.
NOTE: A non-genuine duplicate key will not start the engine.
CAUTION:
When starting the engine, do not use the key with other immobiliser keysaround. Otherwise the engine may not start or may stop soon after it starts.Keep each key separate to prevent immobiliser malfunction, once you have received your new vehicle.

The SRS service reminder indicator (SRI) on the instrument panel will comeon for approximately 6 seconds after the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position or after the engine is started, after which the SRI should go out. The airbag modules are located both in the centre of the steering wheel and in the front passenger's panel above the glove box. When the SRSCM detects aconsiderable impact to the front of the vehicle, it will automatically deploy the airbags. B240B02L-R Passenger's Airbag
Upon deployment, tear seams moldeddirectly into the pad covers will sepa-rate under pressure from the expan- sion of the airbags. Further opening of the covers then allows full inflation ofthe airbags. A fully inflated airbag in combination with a properly worn seat belt slows the driver's or the passenger's forward motion, thus reducing the risk of headand chest injury. After complete inflation, the airbag immediately starts deflating, enabling the driver to maintain forward visibility. B240B03L-R

CAUTION:
Do not install or place any accesso- ries (drink holder, cassette holder, sticker, etc) on the front passenger'spanel above the glove box in the vehicle with passenger's side air bag. Such objects may becomedangerous projectiles and cause injury if the passenger's side air bag inflates.

!WARNING:
o When the SRS is activated, there may be a loud noise and fine dust will be released throughout the vehicle. These conditions are normal and are not hazardous. However, the fine dust generated during airbag deployment may cause skin irritation. Wash yourhands and face thoroughly with lukewarm water and a mild soap after an accident in which theairbags were deployed.
o The SRS can function only when
the ignition key is in the "ON"position. If the SRS SRI does not flash, or continuously remains on after flashing for approxi-mately 6 seconds when the igni- tion key is turned to the "ON" position or after the engine isstarted, comes on while driving, the SRS is not working properly. If this occurs, have your vehicleimmediately inspected by your Hyundai dealer. o Before you replace a fuse or dis-
connect a battery terminal, turn the ignition key to the "LOCK" position or remove the ignition key. Never remove or replace theair bag related fuse(s) when the ignition key is in the "ON" posi- tion. Failure to heed this warningwill cause the SRS SRI to illumi- nate.
CAUTION:
When installing a container of liq- uid air freshener inside a vehicle, do not place it near the instrument cluster not on the instrument panelpad surface. If there is any leakage from the air freshener onto these areas (instrument cluster, instru-ment panel pad or air ventilator), it may damage these parts. If the liq- uid from the air freshener does leakonto these areas, wash them with water immediately.!

o If the airbag inflates, it must be
replaced by a Hyundai authorised repairer.
o Do not tamper with or disconnect SRS wiring, or other componentsof the SRS system. Doing so couldresult in injury, due to accidental firing of the airbag or by rendering the SRS inoperative.
o If components of the airbag sys- tem must be discarded, or if thevehicle must be scrapped, cer-tain safety precautions must be observed. Your Hyundai authorised repairer knows theseprecautions and can give you the necessary information. Failure to follow these precautions and pro-cedures could increase the risk of personal injury.
o If you sell your vehicle, make cer- tain that this manual is trans-ferred to the new owner together with the vehicle.
o If your car was flooded and has soaked carpeting or water onflooring, you shouldn't try to startengine; have car towed to Hyundai authorised repairer.

260P02Y-EAT
ABS Service ReminderIndicator (Not all models)
When the key is turned to the "ON" position, the Anti-Lock Brake SystemSRI will come on and then go off in a approximately seconds. If the ABS SRI remains on, comes on while driving, ordoes not come on when the key is turned to the "ON" position, this indi- cates that there may be a problem withthe ABS. If this occurs, have your vehicle checked by your Hyundai authorisedrepairer as soon as possible. The nor- mal braking system will still be opera- tional, but without the assistance of theanti-lock brake system. WARNING:
If the both ABS SRI and Parking Brake/Brake fluid level warning lights remain "ON" or come on whiledriving, there may be a problem with E.B.D (Electronic brake force distribution). If this occurs, avoid sudden stops and have your vehicle checked by your Hyundai authorised repairer assoon as possible.
SB210J1-E HIGH BEAM INDICATOR LAMP
The high beam indicator lamp will illu- minate whenever the headlamps areswitched to high beam of flash posi- tion.
CAUTION:
If the oil pressure warning light illuminates when the engine is run- ning, an insufficient oil pressure level for continued safe operationof the engine exists. Continued operation of the engine in this con- dition may result in serious enginedamage. Under normal circumstances, the light will illuminate when the igni- tion is turned "on" and will be extin- guished when the engine is started.
B260D01A-EAT
Turn Signal Indicator Lights
The blinking green arrows on the instru- ment panel show the direction indicatedby the turn signals. If the arrow comes on but does not blink, blinks more rapidly than normal, or does not illumi-nate at all, a malfunction in the turn signal system is indicated. Your Hyundai authorised repairer should beconsulted for repairs.

If the oil pressure warning light illuminates whilst the engine is run- ning, stop the engine immediately and check the engine oil level. If thelevel is insufficient, add the required amount of oil as indicated by the engine oil dipstick. If the light failsto extinguish when the engine is restarted, do not continue to oper- ate the vehicle. If the oil pressure light illuminates during normal operation and the cause is not an insufficient oil level,or the light fails to illuminate when the ignition is turned "on", contact the nearest Hyundai authorised re-pairer before further operating the vehicle. PARKING BRAKE/ BRAKE FLUID LEVELWARNING LAMP
WARNING:
In the event of problems being sus- pected with the braking system, the advice of the nearest Hyundai authorised repairer must be soughtbefore the vehicle is driven. Driving the vehicle with either an electrical or hydraulic braking system defectmay be dangerous, resulting in acci- dent or personal injury. Warning lamp operation The parking brake/brake fluid level warning lamp will be illuminated when- ever the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" or "START" position when theparking brake is applied and must be extinguished in a three seconds after the engine starts. If the warning lamp fails to extinguish or illuminates at any other time, the vehicle must be brought to rest in asafe location and the level of brake fluid in the reservoir checked. If the fluid level is incorrect, fluid conforming to DOT 3 or DOT 4 specifications shouldbe added. If, after correcting the brake fluid level, the warning lamp continues to be illuminated, the advice of the
nearest Hyundai auth
orised repairer
must be sought b efore the vehicle is
driven again. The Hyundai Coupe is equipped with a diagonally split dual braking system which will ensure that in the event ofone of the brake circuits becoming defective, approximately fifty per cent of the normal braking performance willbe available. If failure of one of the circuits occurs, the required amount of pedal effort, pedal travel and stopping distance will be increased. Use of the gearbox is recommended to assist in bringing thevehicle to rest. The vehicle must not be driven once brake failure has occurred until the system has been repaired andis functioning normally. The braking system employs a vacuum servo in order that the pedal efforts arereduced. Power for the servo is de- rived from the engine and therefore, in the event of the engine stopping or thevehicle being towed, pedal efforts will be substantially increased.
