Starter (enrichisseur)
to del “starter”.
Mueva en la dirección
a para conectar el starter
(choke).
Mueva en la dirección
b para desconectar el starter
(choke).
Consulte el apartado de “Arranque en frío del motor”
para ver la operación adecuada. (Consulte la página
6-4.)

1-PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND
ADJUSTMENTPeriodic inspection, adjustment and lubrication will
keep your machine in the safest and most efficient
condition possible. Safety is an obligation of the
machine owner. The most important points of ma-
chine inspection, adjustment and lubrication are
explained on the following pages.
WARNING
Never service an engine while it is running.
Moving parts can catch clothing or parts of the
body, causing injury. Electrical components
can cause shocks or can start fires. Turn off
the engine when performing maintenance un-
less otherwise specified. Have a Yamaha deal-
er perform service if you are not familiar with
machine service.

You are recommended to put this owner’s manual
in the vinyl bag and always carry it under the seat

ventive maintenance and minor repairs. The tools
provided in the Owner’s tool kit are sufficient for
this purpose, except that a torque wrench is also
necessary to properly tighten nuts and bolts.NOTE:If you do not have a torque wrench available dur-

Valve clearance adjustment
The correct valve clearance changes with use, re-
sulting in improper fuel/air supply or engine noise.
To prevent this, the valve clearance must be ad-
justed regularly. This adjustment however, should
be left to a professional Yamaha service techni-
cian.
EBU00307
Throttle lever adjustmentNOTE:Adjust the engine idling speed before adjusting the
throttle lever free play.1. Loosen the locknut.
2. Turn the adjusting bolt until the throttle lever

Refill with the same type of brake fluid. Mixing
fluids may result in a harmful chemical reaction
and lead to poor brake performance.
Be careful that water does not enter the brake
fluid reservoir when refilling. Water will signifi-
cantly lower the boiling point of the fluid and
may result in vapor lock.
Brake fluid may deteriorate painted surfaces or
plastic parts. Always clean up spilled fluid im-
mediately.
Have a Yamaha dealer check the cause if the
brake fluid level goes down.
EBU11860
Brake fluid replacement
Complete fluid replacement should be done only
by trained Yamaha service personnel. Have a
Yamaha dealer replace the following components
during periodic maintenance or when they are
damaged or leaking.
Replace the oil seals every two years.
Replace the brake hoses every four years.
