CAUTION
A forwardfacing child restraint sys-
tem should be allowed to be
installed on the front passenger
seat only when it is unavoidable.
Always move the seat as far back
as possible, because the force of
the deploying front passenger air-
bag could cause death or serious
injury to the child.
On vehicles with side airbags and
curtain shield airbags, do not allow
the child to lean against the side
windows or around the side win-
dows even if the child is seated in
the child restraint system. It is dan-
gerous if the side airbag and cur-
tain shield airbag inflate, because
the impact could cause death or
serious injury to the child.
Same angle
When installing a child restraint
system in the third seat center
position, align both seatbacks at
the same angle. Otherwise, the
child restraint system cannot be se-
curely restrained and this may
cause death or serious injuries in a
collision.1. Sit the child on a booster seat. Runthe lap and shoulder belt through or
around the booster seat and child fol-
lowing the instructions provided by its
manufacturer and insert the tab into
the buckle taking care not to twist the
belt.
Make sure the shoulder belt is correctly
across the child’s shoulder and that the
lap belt is positioned as low as possible
on the child’s hips. See “Seat belts” on
page 95 in this Section for details.

Once the ignition switch is turned off, the
warning light also goes off. If the light
comes on again when the vehicle is
started after adjusting the tire pressure to
the specified level, have the tire pressure
warning system checked at your Toyota
dealer.
If you have a flat tire, replace it with the
spare tire. For details, see “If you have
a flat tire” on page 411 in Section 4.
Vehicles with runflat tires—
Decelerate at a speed below 90 km/h
(55 mph), then adjust the tire pressure
to the specified level as soon as pos-
sible. Do not drive more than 160 km
(100 miles).
When the tire pressure is below 140
kPa (1.4 kgf/cm2 or bar, 20 psi), con-
sult your Toyota dealer. If the tire is
flat or the tire pressure is below 100
kPa (1.0 kgf/cm
2 or bar, 15 psi), the
tire must be replaced. Do not use the
repaired tire.
When the tire pressure is 140 kPa (1.4
kgf/cm2 or bar, 20 psi) or more, adjust
it to specified level. (See “Tires” on
page 491 in Section 8.) Once the ignition switch is turned off,
the warning light also goes off. If the
light comes on again when the vehicle
is started after adjusting the tire pres-
sure to the specified level, have the
tire pressure warning system checked
at your Toyota dealer.

7 −2.
If the warning light blinks once every
second:
The low tire pressure warning system may
be malfunctioning. Contact your Toyota
dealer.
If the warning light blinks twice every
second:
The low tire pressure warning system
needs to be initialized. Reset the system
with the tire pressure warning system re-
set switch. (To reset the system, see
“TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM
RESET SWITCH”.) The tire pressure warning system does
not function properly under certain cir-
cumstances. In the following cases, the
low tire pressure warning light may not
come on even if the tire pressure is
low, or it may come on when the tire
pressure is actually normal.
The tread wear is uneven among the
tires.
A compact spare tire, snow tires, or
tire chains are used.
The tire pressure is excessively higher
than specified, or tire pressure sudden-
ly drops due to bursting or other
causes.
The vehicle is driven on a slippery
road surface such as rough or frozen
roads.
The vehicle speed is less than 30 km/h
(19 mph) or more than 100 km/h (62
mph), and the driving duration is less
than 5 minutes.
The tires differ in tread pattern or
manufacturer.
The tires are not the specified size.
The tread wear is very different among
the installed tires.
The pressure of two or more tires
drops at the same time.

Rapid acceleration/deceleration or
sharp turns is continue.
Towing a trailer.
The loading is over the limit or imbal-
anced.
Initialization was not performed correct-
ly after replacing or rotating tires or
wheels.
CAUTION
When the tire pressure warning light
comes on, observe the following in-
structions:
Vehicles with the standard tires—
Adjust the tire pressure to the spe-
cified level as soon as possible.
Vehicles with the runflat tires—
Decelerate as soon as possible to
the lowest appropriate speed that
conditions permit. Do not drive for
longer than 160 km (100 miles) or
over 90 km/h (55 mph).
Avoid abrupt steering wheel maneu-
vering and braking. If the vehicle
tires deteriorate, you could lose
control of the steering wheel or the
brakes, causing death or serious in-
jury.
Note: The tire pressure warning sys-
tem on your vehicle will warn you
when one of your tires is significantly
underinflated and when some com-
binations of your tires are significant-
ly underinflated. However, there are
other combinations of significantly
underinflated tires for which your
tire pressure warning system may not
warm you. These other combinations
are relatively common, accounting for
approximately half the instances in
which vehicles have significantly un-
derinflated tires. For example, your
system may not warm you when both
tires on the same side or on the
same axle of your vehicle are signifi-
cantly underinflated. It is particularly
important, therefore, for you to check
the tire pressure in all of your tires
regularly and maintain proper pres-
sure.
TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM
RESET SWITCH
The tire pressure warning system need
to be initialized in the following condi-
tions:
When the low tire pressure warning
light blinks twice every second
After replacing or rotating tires or
wheels
When initializing the system, the pres-
ent tire condition is stored as a stan-
dard.

6. Runflat tire (RFT) or standardtire— This vehicle can be
equipped with either run −flat tires
(RFT) or standard tires. A “RFT”
or “DSST” mark is molded on the
sidewall of the run −flat tire. For
details, see “Run −flat tires” on
page 469.
7. Radial tires or biasply tires— A
radial tire has “RADIAL” on the
sidewall. A tire not marked with
“RADIAL” is a bias −ply tir e.
8. “TUBELESS” or “TUBE TYPE”— A tubeless tire does not
have a tube inside the tire and air
is directly filled in the tire. A tube
type tire has a tube inside the tire
and the tube maintains the air
pressure.
9. Load limit at maximum cold tire inflation pressure— For details,
see “Checking and replacing tires”
on page 466. 10.Maximum cold tire inflation
pressure— This means the pres-
sure to which a tire may be in-
flated. For details about recom-

When restarting out after parking on a
slope:
1. With the transmission in “P”, start the engine. Be sure to keep the brake ped-
al depressed.
2. Shift into gear.
3. Release the parking brake and brake pedal and slowly pull or back away
from the wheel blo cks. Stop and apply
your brakes.
4. Have someone retrieve the blo cks.CAUTION
Do not exceed 72 km/h (45 mph) or
the posted towing speed limit,
whichever is lower. Because insta-
bility (swaying) of a towing vehicle
trailer combination usually in-
creases as the speed increases, ex-
ceeding 72 km/h (45 mph) may
cause loss of control.
Slow down and downshift before
descending steep or long downhill
grades. Do not make sudden down-
shifts.
Avoid holding the brake pedal down
too long or too frequently. This
could cause the brakes to overheat
and result in reduced braking effi-
ciency.
Improving fuel economy is easy—just take
it easy. It will help make your vehicle last
longer, too. Here are some specific tips
on how to save money on both fuel and
repairs:
Keep your tires inflated at the cor-
rect pressure. Underinflation causes
tire wear and wastes fuel. See page
463 in Section 7 −2 for instructions.
Do not carry unneeded weight in
your vehicle. Excess weight puts a
heavier load on the engine, causing
greater fuel consumption.
Avoid lengthy warmup idling. Once
the engine is running smoothly, begin
driving—but gently. Remember, howev-
er, that on cold winter days this may
take a little longer.
Put the selector lever into the “D”
when engine braking is not required.
Driving with the selector lever in “4”
will reduce the fuel economy. (For de-
tails, see “Automatic transmission” on
page 179 in Section 1 −6.)
Accelerate slowly and smoothly.
Avoid jackrabbit starts. Get into high
gear as quickly as possible.

1. Reduce your speed gradually,keeping a straight line. Move cau-
tiously off the road to a safe place
well away from the traffic. Avoid
stopping on the center divider of
a highway. Park on a level spot
with firm ground.
2. Stop the engine and turn on your emergency flashers.
3. Firmly set the parking brake and put the transmission in “P”.
4. Have everyone get out of the ve- hicle on the side away from traffic.
5. Read the following instructions thoroughly.
NOTICE
Do not continue driving with a
deflated tire. Driving even a
short distance can damage a
tire and wheel beyond repair.
Some vehicles are equipped with
runflat (RFT) tires. The runflat
tire allows you to continue driving
for up to 160 km (100 miles) at a
speed below 90 km/h (55 mph)
even if any tire goes flat. However,
in some conditions (such as high
temperatures), you could not con-
tinue driving for up to 160 km (100
miles).
When the tire goes flat or when the
tire pressure is below 100 kPa (1.0
kgf/cm
2 or bar, 15 psi), the tire
must be replaced. If you are not
sure, consult your Toyota dealer.
Do not use the repaired tire. There is an “RFT” or “DSST” mark on
the sidewall of the run
−flat tire.

As the runflat tire allows you to
continue driving if any tire goes
flat, the tire performance is not
the same as normal condition. If
the runflat tire goes flat, take
your vehicle to the nearest Toyo-
ta dealer or authorized tire dealer
as soon as possible, observing
the following instructions:
Decelerate as soon as possible
to the lowest appropriate
speed that conditions permit.
Do not drive for longer than
160 km (100 miles) or over 90
km/h (55 mph).
 Avoid abrupt steering wheel
maneuvering and braking. If

Do not replace or repair the tire
by yourself. When the tires

of holes in the road because
deflated tire pressure affects
tire cushion performance.
The wheels, tires, body, sus-
pension and other compo-
nents could be damaged.
 Your ground clearance is re-
duced if the runflat tire
goes flat, so avoid driving
over obstacles and drive
slowly on rough, unp aved
roads and speed bumps.
Also, do not attempt to go
through an automatic car
wash as the vehicle may get
caught, resulting in damage.
