Once the ignition switch is turned off, the
warning light also goes off. If the light
comes on again when the vehicle is
started after adjusting the tire pressure to
the specified level, have the tire pressure
warning system checked at your Toyota
dealer.
If you have a flat tire, replace it with the
spare tire. For details, see “If you have
a flat tire” on page 411 in Section 4.
Vehicles with runflat tires—
Decelerate at a speed below 90 km/h
(55 mph), then adjust the tire pressure
to the specified level as soon as pos-
sible. Do not drive more than 160 km
(100 miles).
When the tire pressure is below 140
kPa (1.4 kgf/cm2 or bar, 20 psi), con-
sult your Toyota dealer. If the tire is
flat or the tire pressure is below 100
kPa (1.0 kgf/cm
2 or bar, 15 psi), the
tire must be replaced. Do not use the
repaired tire.
When the tire pressure is 140 kPa (1.4
kgf/cm2 or bar, 20 psi) or more, adjust
it to specified level. (See “Tires” on
page 491 in Section 8.) Once the ignition switch is turned off,
the warning light also goes off. If the
light comes on again when the vehicle
is started after adjusting the tire pres-
sure to the specified level, have the
tire pressure warning system checked
at your Toyota dealer.
For details about the run −flat tires, see
“Run −flat tires” on page 469 in Section
7 −2.
If the warning light blinks once every
second:
The low tire pressure warning system may
be malfunctioning. Contact your Toyota
dealer.
If the warning light blinks twice every
second:
The low tire pressure warning system
needs to be initialized. Reset the system
with the tire pressure warning system re-
set switch. (To reset the system, see
“TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM
RESET SWITCH”.) The tire pressure warning system does
not function properly under certain cir-
cumstances. In the following cases, the
low tire pressure warning light may not
come on even if the tire pressure is
low, or it may come on when the tire
pressure is actually normal.
The tread wear is uneven among the
tires.
A compact spare tire, snow tires, or
tire chains are used.
The tire pressure is excessively higher
than specified, or tire pressure sudden-
ly drops due to bursting or other
causes.
The vehicle is driven on a slippery
road surface such as rough or frozen
roads.
The vehicle speed is less than 30 km/h
(19 mph) or more than 100 km/h (62
mph), and the driving duration is less
than 5 minutes.
The tires differ in tread pattern or
manufacturer.
The tires are not the specified size.
The tread wear is very different among
the installed tires.
The pressure of two or more tires
drops at the same time.

Rapid acceleration/deceleration or
sharp turns is continue.
Towing a trailer.
The loading is over the limit or imbal-
anced.
Initialization was not performed correct-
ly after replacing or rotating tires or
wheels.
CAUTION
When the tire pressure warning light
comes on, observe the following in-
structions:
Vehicles with the standard tires—
Adjust the tire pressure to the spe-
cified level as soon as possible.
Vehicles with the runflat tires—
Decelerate as soon as possible to
the lowest appropriate speed that
conditions permit. Do not drive for
longer than 160 km (100 miles) or
over 90 km/h (55 mph).
Avoid abrupt steering wheel maneu-
vering and braking. If the vehicle
tires deteriorate, you could lose
control of the steering wheel or the
brakes, causing death or serious in-
jury.
Note: The tire pressure warning sys-
tem on your vehicle will warn you
when one of your tires is significantly
underinflated and when some com-
binations of your tires are significant-
ly underinflated. However, there are
other combinations of significantly
underinflated tires for which your
tire pressure warning system may not
warm you. These other combinations
are relatively common, accounting for
approximately half the instances in
which vehicles have significantly un-
derinflated tires. For example, your
system may not warm you when both
tires on the same side or on the
same axle of your vehicle are signifi-
cantly underinflated. It is particularly
important, therefore, for you to check
the tire pressure in all of your tires
regularly and maintain proper pres-
sure.
TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM
RESET SWITCH
The tire pressure warning system need
to be initialized in the following condi-
tions:
When the low tire pressure warning
light blinks twice every second
After replacing or rotating tires or
wheels
When initializing the system, the pres-
ent tire condition is stored as a stan-
dard.

To initialize the system, perform the fol-
lowing:1. Park the vehicle at a safe place and apply the parking brake. Stop the en-
gine.
2. Adjust the pressure of all the installed tires to the specified level. (See “Tires”
on page 491 in Section 8.)
3. Turn the ignition key to “ON”.
4. Push and hold the reset switch until the low tire pressure warning light
blinks three times.
5. Initialization is completed after driving at the speeds of 30 km/h (19 mph) or
over for about 8 hours total, when the
tire pressure warning system detects
the normal tire pressure.
When initializing the system, make sure
the low tire pressure warning light blinks
three times. If the warning light does not
blink three times, initializing will be failed
and the tire pressure warning system will
not function properly.
Do not push the reset switch without ad-
justing the tire pressure to the specified
level. Otherwise, the low tire pressure
warning light may not come on even if the
tire pressure is low, or it may come on
when the tire pressure is actually normal.
If you push the reset switch while the
vehicle is moving, initialization is not per-
formed. If the low tire pressure warning light does
not blink when you push and hold the
reset switch, have the low pressure warn-
ing system checked at your Toyota dealer.
When the warning light blinks twice every
second while driving, you may be unable
to reset the system. In this case, set the
system again according to the above pro-
cedure.

When the antilock brake system is ac-
tivated, the following conditions may
occur. They do not indicate a malfunc-
tion of the system:
You may hear the anti−lock brake sys-
tem operating and feel the brake pedal
pulsating and the vibrations of the ve-
hicle body and steering wheel. You
may also hear the motor sound in the
engine compartment even after the ve-
hicle is stopped.
At the end of the anti −lock brake sys-
tem activation, the brake pedal may
move a little forward.
CAUTION
Do not overestimate the antilock
brake system: Although the antilock
brake system assists in providing ve-
hicle control, it is still important to
drive with all due care and maintain
a moderate speed and safe distance
from the vehicle in front of you, be-
cause there are limits to the vehicle
stability and effectiveness of steering
wheel operation even with the anti
lock brake system on.
If tires grip performance exceeds its
capability, or if hydroplaning occurs
during high speed driving in the rain,
the antilock brake system does not
provide vehicle control.
Antilock brake system is not de-
signed to shorten the stopping dis-
tance: Always drive at the moderate
speed and maintain a safe distance
from the vehicle in front of you.
Compared with vehicles without an
antilock brake system, your vehicle
may require a longer stopping dis-
tance in the following cases:
Driving on rough, gravel or snow
covered roads.
Driving with tire chains installed.
Driving over the steps such as the
joints on the road.
Driving on roads where the road
surface is pitted or has other differ-
ences in surface height.
Install all 4 tires of specified size at
appropriate pressure: The antilock
brake system detects vehicle speeds
using the speed sensors for respec-
tive wheels’ turning speeds. The use
of tires other than specified may fail
to detect the accurate turning speed
resulting in a longer stopping dis-
tance.

6. Runflat tire (RFT) or standardtire— This vehicle can be
equipped with either run −flat tires
(RFT) or standard tires. A “RFT”
or “DSST” mark is molded on the
sidewall of the run −flat tire. For
details, see “Run −flat tires” on
page 469.
7. Radial tires or biasply tires— A
radial tire has “RADIAL” on the
sidewall. A tire not marked with
“RADIAL” is a bias −ply tir e.
8. “TUBELESS” or “TUBE TYPE”— A tubeless tire does not
have a tube inside the tire and air
is directly filled in the tire. A tube
type tire has a tube inside the tire
and the tube maintains the air
pressure.
9. Load limit at maximum cold tire inflation pressure— For details,

on page 466. 10.Maximum cold tire inflation
pressure— This means the pres-
sure to which a tire may be in-

on the sidewall. The tire not
marked with “M+S” is a summer
