Never leave anyone (particularly a
small child) alone in your vehicle,
especially with the ignition key still
inserted. Otherwise, he/she could
use the power window switches and
get trapped in a window. Unat-
tended person (particularly a small
child) can be involved in a serious
accident.
To open the trunk lid from the outside,
insert the master key and turn it clock-
wise.
See “—Stowage precautions” on page 219
in Section 2 for precautions when loading
luggage.
To close the trunk lid, lower it and press
down on it. After closing the trunk lid, try
pulling it up to make sure it is securely
closed.
The trunk lid can be opened with the wire-
less remote control transmitter, see
“—Wireless remote control” on page 20 in
this Section.
CAUTION
Keep the trunk lid closed while driv-
ing. This not only keeps the luggage
from being thrown out but also pre-
vents exhaust gases from entering
the vehicle.

To open the trunk lid from the driver’s
seat, pull up on the lock release lever.
To deactivate this lock release lever from
opening the trunk lid, see “—Luggage se-
curity system” described below. This system prevents someone (with
the sub key) from gaining access to the
trunk by folding down a rear seat or
using the trunk lid lock release lever.
To protect valuables stored in the
trunk, do the following procedure.1. Open the trunk lid and push down the security lock levers to lock the
rear seatbacks.
After locking the rear seatbacks, try fold-
ing them down to make sure they are
securely locked, otherwise someone could
get into the trunk by folding down a rear
seat.2. Close the trunk lid. Insert the master key and turn it counterclockwise to
deactivate the trunk lid lock release
lever.
After the operation, try pulling up the
trunk lid lock release lever to make sure
it is locked.
NOTICE
Implement the above steps to maxi-
mize security of the luggage in the
trunk whenever the vehicle is unat-
tended.

2. To remove the fuel tank cap, turnthe cap counterclockwise by 90 de-
grees (to the pressure point 1), and
then turn it an additional 30 degrees
(to point 2). Pause slightly before
removing it.
It is not unusual to hear a slight swoosh
when the cap is opened.3. The removed cap can be stored on the back side of the fuel filler door.
Position the cap so that the hooks point
to the left and right, and set it in the
receptacle on the back side of the door. When installing the cap, turn the cap
clockwise until you hear a click. When
you hear the click, the cap is fully
closed.
If the cap is not installed securely, the
malfunction indicator lamp comes on.
Make sure the cap is tightened securely.
The indicator lamp goes off after driving
several times. If the indicator lamp does
not go off, contact your Toyota dealer as
soon as possible.
CAUTION
Make sure the cap is installed se-
curely to prevent fuel sp
illage in
the event of an accident.
Use only a genuine Toyota fuel tank
cap for replacement. It is designed
to regulate fuel tank pressure.

Push either side of the track button until
the number of the track you want to listen
to appears on the display. If you want to
return to the beginning of the current
track, quickly push the down side of the
button one time.
TRAF (Traffic)

(TA) feature on and off.
By pushing “TRAF” button, “TRAF SEEK”
appears on the display and the radio will
start seeking any traffic program station.
When a traffic program station is found,
“< >” will be displayed () and you
will hear a beep.
After the traffic announcement program is
over, a beep sounds and the display re-
turns to the previous mode.
If no traffic program station is found, “NO
TRAF INFO” appears on the display for a
few seconds and the display returns to
the previous mode. However, if the
“TRAF” button is pushed when the cas-
sette player or compact disc player is on,
the radio will start seeking traffic program
stations.
TA volume memory function—The volume
level when receiving the traffic announce-
ment is memorized. When “TA” is received next time, the sys-
tem compares the volume before “TA” is
received and the memorized TA volume
and automatically selects the louder vol-
ume. However, the range of volume
memory is limited: if the volume received
previously is less than the minimum, this
volume will be used.
You can adjust the volume independently
from the memorized TA volume range
while receiving a TA station.
Traffic announcement can be canceled by
turning RDS off, or pressing the “TRAF”
button again.
TUNE (Tuning)
Turn the knob clockwise to step up the
frequency. Turn the knob counterclockwise
to step down the frequency.

the program type changes as in the fol-
lowing:
