Synchronizing the car key codeIf it is no longer possible to unlock the car
using the remote control, the problem may
be that the codes of the key and the con-
trol unit in the car no longer agree. This can
happen if the buttons of the key are pres-
sed several times beyond the effective ran-
ge of the system or if the battery of the re-
mote control has been replaced.
For this reason, the code must be re-syn-
chronized by pressing any desired button
on the remote control. Open the door with
the key within one minute after pressing the
button.
Anti-theft alarm system*General notes
The anti-theft alarm system enhances the
protection provided against attempts to
break into the car.
The anti-theft alarm system monitors the
following parts of the car:
- Doors
- Tailgate
- Bonnet
- Ignition lock
- Interior of car
1).
- Voltage drop in electrical system.
The alarm is activated by:
Opening the doors
Opening the tailgate
Opening the bonnet
Switching on the ignition
Movements inside the car.
The alarm is recognizable from the visual
and audible signals2) (the flashing of the
turn signal lights and the noise of the si-
ren) for 30 seconds.
1)Alarm is triggered by the movement of persons
in the interior of the car or by an attempt to steal
the car radio. It is possible, in certain circum-
stances, that the rear area of the interior of the
car is not fully monitored.2)The characteristics of the visual and audible sig-
nal differ according to the country.
If a further attempt is made to break into
the car after these 30 seconds, the alarm
is again activated.Operating the anti-theft alarm systemActivating alarm
Lock the car with the key or by pressing the
lock button of the remote control. The mo-
nitoring functions are thus switched on.
Deactivating alarm
is deactivated by pressing the Unlock key
on the remote control. The check functions
are switched off in this case. If the remote
control is not operating properly, you can
deactivate the anti-theft alarm system in the
following manner: unlock the car and then
switch the ignition on.
After unlocking and not opening the doors,
the alarm is reactivated after 30 seconds.

CONTROLS AND EQUIPMENT
Luggage compartmentTo ensure proper handling of your car, al-
ways distribute any load which you carry
(passengers and luggage).
Heavy objects should be transported as
close as possible to the rear suspension,
or even better between the front and rear.
In addition, please ensure that the heater
elements of the rear window are not dam-
aged by objects rubbing against them.
In the event of an accident, there is such a
high kinetic energy, which is produced by
small and light objects that they can cause
severe injuries.
The magnitude of the kinetic energy de-
pends on the speed at which the vehicle is
travelling and on the weight of the object.
The speed at which the vehicle is travel-
ling is in this case the more significant fac-
tor.
Example: In the event of a frontal collision
at a speed of 50 km/h, an unsecured ob-
ject with a weight of 4.5 kg produces an
energy, which corresponds to 20 times its
own weight.
This means that it results in a weight of
approx. 90 kg.
You can imagine the injuries that can oc-
cur, if this „bullet“ is flying through the inte-
rior compartment and hits an occupant.Warning
Store the objects in the luggage
compartment and attach them to the
lashing eyes.
Loose objects in the passenger
compartment can be thrown forward
during a sudden manoeuvre or in case
of an accident and they can injure the
occupants or other oncoming traffic.
This risk is still increased, if the ob-
jects, which are flying around, are hit
by a deployed airbag.
In this case, the objects, which are
thrown back, can injure the occu-
pants - hazard!
Never drive with the tailgate ajar
or even open otherwise exhaust
gases will be drawn into the interior!
Please note that when you trans-
port heavy items, this results in a
change in the centre of gravity of the
vehicle and thus affects the handling.
You should therefore adjust your
style of driving and speed to match,
and also alter the setting of the head-
lights, if necessary.

CONTROLS AND EQUIPMENT
If the front or side airbag was deacti-
vated with the switch in the glove box:
- the warning light comes on for 3 secondswhen the ignition is switched on;
- the deactivation of the airbag is signaled by the warning light Airbag OFF coming
on in the front interior light
Warning
If a fault exists, have the airbag sys-
tem checked immediately by a Škoda
Dealer. Otherwise, there is a risk of
the airbag or the seat belt not being
activated in the event of an accident.
Trailer turn signal system*The warning light flashes if the turn signal
system is operated when towing a trailer.
If a turn signal light of the trailer or towing
vehicle fails, the warning light does not
flash.Low beamThe warning light comes on after the low
beam is switched on - see page 82.Fog lights*The warning light comes on when the fog
lights are switched on.Rear fog lightThe warning light comes on when the rear
fog light is switched on.
Testing engine electronics* EPC(fitted only to certain engines)
The warning light comes on for a few se-
conds when the ignition is switched on.
If the warning light does not go off or co-
mes on or flashes when driving, this indi-
cates a fault in the engine electronic sy-
stem. A program stored in the engine con-
trol unit makes it possible to continue dri-
ving with certain restrictions - contact a
Škoda Dealer for professional assistance.Glow plugs(diesel engines only)
If the engine is cold, the warning light co-
mes on when the preglow position „2“ (ig-
nition on) is switched on - see page 43. If
the warning light does not come on, there
is a fault in the glow plug system - contact
a Škoda Dealer for assistance. After the
light goes out, start the engine rightaway.
If the engine is warm, the glow plug warn-
ing light does not come on - the engine can
be started straightaway.
If the warning light flashes when driving,
there is a fault in the system.
Contact a Škoda Dealership for professio-
nal advice.

SAFETY
As soon as you no longer use the child
safety seat, you should reactivate the
front passenger airbag.
If using a child seat, please read the sec-
tion headed „Safety of Children“ on page
111 .
The operational readiness of the airbag
system is monitored electronically even if
the passenger airbag is deactivated.
If the airbag was switched off with a diag-
nostic unit , the warning light comes on in
the dash panel insert for about 3 seconds
after the ignition is switched on and then
flashes for a further 12 seconds.
If the airbag was deactivated with an
Airbag switch* in the glove box, the airbag
warning light comes on in the dash panel
insert for about 3 seconds and the deacti-
vation of the airbag is signaled if the warn-
ing light “AIRBAG “ OFF” comes on in the
interior light - see page 108.
Switch for front passenger airbags*You can deactivate the passenger-side
front airbag and if the vehicle is equipped
with side airbags, also the passenger-side
side airbag with the switch
The airbag(s) may be deactivated only if,
in exceptional cases, it is necessary to in-
stall a child seat on the front passenger
seat.
It is preferable to place the child seat al-
ways at the rear.
For safety reasons the driver of the car is
under the obligation to have the airbag
switched on when driving.
Warning
Deactivate the airbag only when the
ignition is switched off! Failure to ob-
serve this instruction may result in a
fault in the airbag system and con-
sequently cause subsequent deploy-
ment of the airbag.
Deactivating airbag Switch the ignition off.
Use the ignition key to turn the airbag
switch -arrow- into the „OFF“ position. The
ignition key must be in the vertical position.
Check whether the airbag warning light
in the interior lighting (front) lights up when
the ignition is switched on.
Warning
The driver of the car is responsible
for ensuring that the airbag is deacti-
vated or activated.
