Oilchange
The engine oilhas tobe changed atthe intervals
listed inyour
Maintenance Schedule.
'" Please observe thechapter "CAPACITIES" on
Page 185.
We recommend thatyouhave theengine oil
changed atyour Porsche dealer,whohasthere-
quired oilsand thenecessary fillingequipment.
If you suspect anoilleak inthe engine haveyour
dealer checkitout immediately.
All current engineoilsarecompatible witheach
other, i.e. when making anoilchange itis not nec-
essary toflush theengine ifyou wish touse adif-
ferent brandorgrade ofoil.
Since, however, eachbrand ofoil has aspecial
composition, youshould, ifpossible, usethe
same oilbrand ifit becomes necessary totop up
between oilchanges.
Porsche engineshavelongintervals betweenoil
changes. Youcanmake bestuseofthese longoil
change intervals byusing multigrade oilssince
these arelargely independent ofseasonal fluctua-
tions intemperature.
1
Maintenance, CarCare If
your vehicle isused frequently instop-and-go
traffic incold weather, theengine willnot always
be properly warmedup.
Condensation fromproducts ofcombustion may
accumulate inthe oil.Inthis case, itis advisable
to change theoilmore frequently sothat your en-
gine once again has100% efficient engineoil.
Engine oilperformance class
Engine oilisnot only alubricant, butalso serves
to keep theengine clean,toneutralize thedirt
which penetrates intotheengine through combus-
tion andtoprotect theengine against corrosion.
To perform thesefunctions, theoilisprovided
with additives whichhavebeen specially devel-
oped forthese functions.
The efficiency ofan oilisexpressed, forexample,
by the API, ILSAC orACEA classifications.
Viscosity
Like allliquids, engineoilisviscous whencold,
and thin-bodied whenwarm. Theviscosity ofan oil
is expressed byitsSAE class. Forcold viscosity
(measured attemperatures below32°F
jO°C)
the
SAE class isgiven asanumber andtheletter "W"
(as inwinter), forhot viscosity (measured at
212°FjlOO°C) theSAE class isgiven onlyasa
number.
The viscosity ofan oilis,therefore, alwaysthe
same ifithas thesame number ofan SAE class.
Oils with twoviscosities arecalled multigrade oils;
oils with onlyoneviscosity aretermed single-
grade oils.
Single-grade oilscan notbeused inyour engine.
The viscosity ofthe engine oilfor your Porsche
has tobe chosen according tothe ambient tem-
perature giveninthe engine oilrecommendation
table.
