Seat
position

A correct sittingposition isimportant forsafe and
fatigue-free driving.
We recommend thefollowing procedure for
adjusting thedriver's seattosuit individual
requirements:
1. Adjust theseat height togive yourself enough
headroom andagood overview ofthe vehicle.
2. Adjust theseat until, withtheaccelerator pedal
fully depressed, yourlegisstraight butyour
entire footstillrests onthe accelerator pedal.
3. Grip thetop half ofthe steering wheel.
Set thebackrest angleandsteering-wheel
position sothat your arms arealmost
outstretched. However,yourshoulders must
still rest onthe backrest.
4. Ifnecessary, correcttheseat fore-and-aft
adjustment.

body weight.
~ Release thelever.

Safetybeltheight adjustment

Adjust theheight ofthe safety beltsothat itruns
across themiddle ofthe shoulder, notagainst the
neck.

Automatic
lockingretractor

The safety beltforthe passenger seatisequipped
with anautomatic lockingretractor forsecuring
the child restraint system.
When activated, thisretractor allowsyoutose-
curely fasten thechild restraint systeminplace so
that inadvertent movements willnot occur.

Activating theautomatic lockingretractor

1. Pull thesafety beltretractor
completely
out.
At this point thelocking mechanism isacti-
vated.
2. Insert thesafety belttongue intothebuckle
and make certain thatitis properly latched.
3. Allow thesafety belttoretract untilitis tight on
the child restraint system.Youmay further
tighten thebelt bypulling onitto allow more of
it to retract.

Releasing thesafety belt

1. Unbuckle thesafety beltlatch.
2. Then make certain thatthebelt hasfully
retracted.
At this point theautomatic lockingfeature will
be disengaged.

Washing

The best method ofprotecting yourcarfrom the
damaging effectsofthe environment isfrequent
washing andtheapplication ofapreservative. The
underside ofyour vehicle shouldalsobewashed
thoroughly, atthe latest whensaltisno longer
spread onthe roads.
The longer salt,road dustandindustrial dust,
dead insects, birddroppings orsubstances from
trees (resin, pollen) areallowed toremain onthe
bodywork, themore serious istheir harmful ef-
fect.
New cars should bewashed carefully withplenty
of clear water toprotect thenew paint work. Dark
paint finishes showupthe smallest ofsurface
damage (e.g.,scratches) morereadily thanlighter
colors.
Dark colors arealso more susceptible toscratch-
ing because ofthe composition oftheir pigments
and require particularly carefulpaintcare.

Donot wash yourcarinbright sunlight orwhile
the bodywork isstill hot.

When washing byhand, useabundant water,a
soft sponge orwash brush, andPorsche car
shampoo.

Begin byspraying thebody thoroughly withwa-
ter torinse away loose dirt.

After washing, rinsethecarwith plenty ofwa-
ter and then drywith achamois leather.
Do not use thesame chamois leatherfordry-
ing asyou useforcleaning thewindshield and
windows.

Moisture whichgetsontothe brakes during
a car wash canreduce braking efficiency or
make thebrakes pullunevenly whichcould
increase thedanger ofan accident, causing
serious personal injuriesordeath.

Always applythebrakes afew times after
washing thecartotest braking efficiency and
dry the brake discs.
When doingthis,take care nottohamper other
road users behind you(traffic conditions per-
mitting),

Automatic carwashes

Optional add-onpartsorparts which project
beyond thecontours ofthe vehicle maybe
damaged bydesign features (e.g.brushes) ofau-
tomatic carwashes.
The
following partsareparticularly
susceptible todamage:

- Windshield wipers(always switchthemoffto
prevent themwiping unintentionally inintermit-
tent operation)
- External telephone antennas(alwaysunscrew)
- Roof Transport System(alwaysremove com-
pletely)
- Rear spoiler
- Wheels (thewider therimand thelower thetire
height, thegreater therisk ofdamage)
- High-gloss wheels(toprevent thesefromget-
ting scratched, donot clean withthewheel-
cleaning brushesofthe carwash).

matic carwashes.

Wash anddrybyhand allpoints notreached by
a car wash, suchasdoor andlidseams or
door sills.

Note

Automatic carwashes spraywater atodd angles
and high pressures, whicharenotseen innormal
driving. Therefore, watercansometimes findits
way intothepassengers compartment duringor
shortly afterthecarwash.

The surface uponwhich thevehicle restsisflat
and approximately level.

Screen

The screen uponwhich headlamp beams arepro-
jected isperpendicular tothe floor andthevehi-
cle's longitudinal axis,flat,uniformly lightincolor,
unobstructed, andwide andhigh enough toac-
commodate thevehicle beampatterns tobe
aimed.
The screen shouldbewide enough toprovide at
least 1m of space outboard ofthe vehicle's head-
lamp spacing.
