Driving
The < seat belt warni ng lamp in the
instrument cluster reminds you to ensure
that all occupants are wearing their seat
belts.
If the driver has not fastened his seat belt,
the < seat belt warning lamp lights up
if the doors are closed and the engine is
running. In addition, an intermitten tsignal
sounds from a speed of 25 km /hupwards.
The intermittent signal ceases:
! as soon as the driver has fastened his
seat belt
! after a maximum of 93 seconds
! when the vehicle is stationary
The < seat belt warning lamp only goes
out once the driver has fastened his seat
belt. !
Children less than 1.50 m tall and
yo un ger than 12 years ofage cannot
wear the seat belts properly. Always
secure these children in suitable child
re straint systems on seats designe dfor
this purpose ( =pag e62). Please follow
the manufacturer's installation instruc-
tions when installing child restraint sys-
tems.
! Do not secure any objects with a seat
belt if it is also being used by one of the
vehicle 'soccupan ts. G
Risk ofinjury The seat belt only prov
ides its intended
degree of protection if the seat backrest is
positioned as close to the vertical as possi-
ble, allowing th eoccupant to sit upright.
Avoid sea tpositions which do not allow the
seat belt to be routed correctly ( =
pag e25).
Therefore, po sition the bac kres ts as close to
the vertical as possible. Never drive with the
backrest inclined too far backwards. G
Risk of injury Airbags are de
signed not to be triggered in
al lac cident situations, since aco rrectly fas-
tened seat belt will often besufficient for
providing an effective degree of protection.
Airbags are not a substitute for seat belts.
To reduce the risk of severe or eve nfatal
in jury, make sure that all occupants – in par-
ticular, pregnant women – always wear their
seat be lts correctly, are seated inan upright
positio nand have their seats positio ned
